Respect the Insect is an interesting picture book for children all about insects. I loved how encouraging this book was in its cute and fun format for children to pick up, listen to, and explore. There's so much information about insects in many different shapes and forms through this book, but not overloading the reader/listener and easy to dip in and out of, too. Children (and grown-ups) often get freaked out and scared of insects (myself included) but this book helps the learner understand how clever and useful insects are, how much they help us out and how much we need them.

This was an educational book for children that I enjoyed! It was filled with amazing facts, some I didn’t know and was fascinated reading about. This book highlighted the importance of insects and how they each contribute to the natural flow of the world, as pesky as some of them might be. I loved the illustrations and the vibrant colours used to bring the insects to life.

Respect the Insect is another great new science text. This will go so well with our pollination unit. We are always on the lookout for awesome science books about insects.

In a Nutshell: An informative and entertaining book offering you a multitude of reasons why you should “respect the insect.” Love the structure, the illustrations and the content. A couple of minor points could have been tackled better, but on the whole, definitely recommended to entomophiles as well as entomophobes.

Bugs always get a bad rap. To a great extent, I can understand why. They seem creepy, they crawl in nooks and crannies and spring out unexpectedly, they bite, they sting, they fly too fast to be caught,… But bugs are also amazing!

Here’s a book that aims to get you to respect insects. I love that word choice: “respect”. The plan isn’t to make you love insects but to make you appreciate them. And hopefully, not swat or squash them anymore. (Except cockroaches and female mosquitoes! I permit you to go wild and attack them with gusto! 😬)

People don’t realise that that (a majority of) insects aren’t a nuisance. (Most of the times.) Insects have been on this planet for longer than humans, and even dinosaurs. They have survived extreme heat as well as cold. They can thrive in any kind of habitat. They can eat any type of food. They can fly as well as crawl. If there’s one thing insects can teach us, it is resilience.

We depend on insects for many things. We already know some products that come from insects, such as honey. But do we know how important insects are in providing us chocolate and coffee? Imagine our world without these two delectable treats! 😱

This book begins by explaining what an insect is. It then provides eye-opening facts about a whole array of insects. The content is organised into sections based on the functionality of the insects, such as cleaners, food makers, eco warriors and so on.

The focus isn’t just on well-known human helpers such as the various pollinators. The information tackles not just what insects contribute to our life directly but also how they impact our lifestyle indirectly. I liked how some infamous insects such as termites, wasps and mosquitoes make guest appearances, offering a justification for why they behave the way they do.

The book winds up with the impact of climate change on the insect world, and a few pointers about what children can do to “be a friend to insects.’

The page organisation is excellent. The whole space is illustrated and filled with myriad insects, and neat text boxes provide the information. The content seems a tad bit cluttered in the digital version, so the book will be best enjoyed through a physical copy.

This book aims at readers aged 7-10 years, but the complexity and range of the information makes it suitable to 11-14 year olds as well. Younger kids will enjoy the illustrations and some of the facts, but the rest might be a little difficult for them to comprehend completely. There is a glossary at the end for the trickier scientific terms, but this will work only for the older children.

The only thing I didn’t like was how the book glossed over the truly negative aspects, and I don’t mean topics such as poisonous insects. There has been a lot of cruelty involved in human utilisation of insects, especially historically, whether through the boiling of silkworm cocoons in water to collect the silk or the crushing of cochineal bugs to make red dye. But the book either doesn’t mention the wickedness of humans at all, or it makes it sound like the insect has made peace with the sacrifice as it benefited humans. This didn’t rub me the right way.

All in all, I mostly loved this book. It sticks to its core theme and provides valid reasons to respect insects for all they are and all they do. I hope little (and adult) readers read this and realise that (most) insects are our friends. And let’s face it, some of them are adorable!

Definitely recommended to little bug lovers at home and also to classroom libraries. Also worth a try to those who are afraid of or disgusted by insects; may this book make you value the harmless little creatures.

I find bugs fascinating and they do deserve our respect. I adore the fact that due to the fact little is known about bugs, there is a lot to to lear from every book

If you don't love insects at the start of this book, you definitely will by the end! This is a brilliant, fact-filled and fun book about the incredible world of insects. From insect lifecycles and ecosystems to the power of pollinators, this will encourage everyone to appreciate and understand insects of all shapes and sizes. The illustrations are the perfect pairing, lively and engaging throughout.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC! My little guy enjoyed this book as it covers a multitude of insects and their part in the ecosystem. There are a lot of insects covered in this book that I have never heard of such as the scorpion fly and lac bug. I highly recommend this book for anyone homeschooling or is fascinated by insects.

Respect the Insect is one of the most beautifully illustrated books I have ever read. It contains a slew of facts about an array of insects paired with the cutest illustrations. I loved that there is an index and glossary for reference.

Perfect for children who love nature, science, or insects. Younger children will love the illustrations even if the subject is too complex for them, and adults are bound to learn something new.

Respect the Insect is a colorful and fun introduction to insects with tons of trivia! I am an adult, but I definitely learned some fascinating facts about insects and how important they are! This is a great way to teach kiddos to respect the natural world. I especially loved the way the insects were presented with cute illustrations and personalities that make readers actually CARE about them. This book will be in my mind the next time I consider squashing a bug.

I dont love bugs and always scare to interact with them. But I knew not all insects are creepy actually and alot people out there who adore them. This book is perfect for children who fascinating about this creatures and wanna know more about them. In the cute ways.

I found my self falling in love with this illustrated children book. The contents are informative, easy to understand. The narration friendly and encouraging. And the illustrations is bright, adorable and reminds me like cartoon movie.

This book is great for learn about all sort of different species of insects. The author divide them into categories and children (or grow up) can learn them partially. Beautiful book for gift and collection.

I thought this book was very well done! The illustrations are colorful and engaging for children. There were many categories of insects and a lot of unique, interesting facts. that should appeal to both children and adults alike. This book is well suited for older children (8 - 10 years old) And I could see this being a great lap book to be read together a bit at a time.

I. Love. Bugs. I can remember being a little girl and waking up at 5am every day, giddy to go outside and look under rocks for bugs and worms. I have always been disappointed, however, to learn that the love of creepy crawlies is not universal. I can't tell you how excited I am that there's a book I can give all the little kids in my life to hopefully encourage them to respect and even perhaps admire beetles, ants, and moths.

Every page is illustrated with bright, cheerful, friendly depictions of all sorts of different species of insects. There's lots of information in the book too! Most of it would be too hard for a kid under about 7 or 8, but I think if you've got kids in that 7-10 age range, this would be a perfect gift. To be totally honest with you, I'm an adult woman, and I'm going to buy a copy of this for myself because I loved it so, so much.

This book made me happy, and when it comes out in July, it's going right on my coffee table!

A wonderful insightful and completely aimed at target audience book on all things from the insect world. Very informative, with easy to read sections on various topics. Really enjoyed learning all the facts and sure children will too.
