This was definitely something different. The main character Ben's life is falling apart and the center of his world is the basement of an ancestral butcher shop. The problem is Roger lives in the basement and is the internal voice inside his head. As things begin to unravel in his marriage and family life, the voice gets louder and more insistent. This book was definitely creepy, however Roger's odd dialogue and near constant focus on the hand rolled cigarettes were just off putting. There was a lot to unpack in this book and I am not really sure I really understand what this author was trying to get acrossed. Thanks for the ARC, NetGalley.
Intense character study, one man trapped into his existence, losing his grip on life and what is important. His personal battle and realizations drive the book forward - a quick and absorbing read, highly entertaining.
Was able to read in one sitting. It hooked me right away. It us a bit strange at times but easy to get wrapped up in. Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this
Great, multi-faceted characters. Very interesting plot. Vivid descriptions. I felt every emotion. Kept me intrigued from the first page to the last. Simply a GREAT read!
*I received a complimentary ARC of this book in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
I did like some of the concepts of this book. I loved the idea of confronting toxic masculinity and the horror of talking to pig's head. The issue I have this book is that the message isn't clear. It's hard to say what I mean without spoilers, but in the end I really couldn't tell if it was for or against toxic masculinity. I read a lot of satire and I think that this book is meant to be satire. I just wish that the author would have been a little more clear about the message. I'm giving it three stars because there were some fun and interesting parts, but it definitely dragged at the end and left me with more questions than answers.
this book will capture you on the very first page! Filled with complex interesting characters, this compelling story will take you on a journey into life, love, heartache and some bizarre ways the characters cope with their lives. this author weaves an intriguing story that will keep you interested to the very end! I could not put this book down! A real page turner and a must read!
This book was certainly something else. Definitely not something that I usually read, but the Cover of the book just kinda...hocked me (badum tss) I really enjoyed the macabre story. Talking to a decapitated pig head is an interesting way to cope with tragedy.
This was not what I usually read but I devoured it anyway, pun intended. I can just smell the atmosphere of this book and it reeks of meat. This gave me creepy vibes with an undertone of warmth. This is about a man who has to grieve over the loss of his marriage in a very unique and disgusting way in the form of a pigs head. Was super fast paced and can be finished in one sitting.
Slow, boring, but good concept that is just done poorly. I can see where the author was going with this book but it just didn't quite get there. Could definitely use a little bit more polish.
