This is a wonderful book of poems from Joseph Coelho with some great illustrations really bringing them to life. I also really like the prompts!

I can't wait to use this for writing poetry in my classroom next year!!! The poems and fun and the writing prompts are accessible for students! Will definitely purchase at least one copy.. maybe more to gift to teacher friends! What a great resource! Thank you!

Ah, I loved this! I really loved the illustrations and how the poems were shaped around them (especially The Tower). It was a quick, fun, and spooky book of poems that were enjoyable to read.

This book! It’s hilarious, it’s beyond hilarious, with a touch of a little bit of creepy, and the drawings are gorgeous.

This book is a great kids book for getting kids into poetry, both writing and reading and how to craft poems. It's really cute and a great into to poetry for kids who maybe don't have much experience with it.

It gives prompts, and ideas, then shows poems where those ideas/prompts are utilized.

This book was a fun read for my daughter and I. We enjoyed the invitations to be creative in making our own poems. That was her favorite part. She said she didn’t love some of the stories and they were a little scary for her but loved most of them .

𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗢𝗞𝗬 𝗣𝗢𝗘𝗠𝗦 𝗔𝗟𝗢𝗨𝗗 would make an interesting addition to any school library. First because it is a thematic read and secondly because it is a fun way to introduce young readers to poetry. The poems are the right length to read and discuss when you have a few spare minutes and are sure to illicit smiles and giggles. I can definitely see this becoming a class favourite.

It has been a really long time since I've read a Halloween/spooky children's book and this one did no disappoint.
I think this is the perfect spooky read for children and I love that it encourages them to read the poems alone AND to a friend.
I really appreciate that it also encourages children to use/develop their creativity and write poems of their own.
The illustration style is perfect for this book!

I would 100% purchase this for my little cousin, or as a gift to someone or even to my future child.

This was definitely the perfect spooky poetry book for children to read alone or with friends. The artwork was adorable, and I thought having explanations for different types of poems was a nice touch. It also gave an opportunity for readers to write their own poems throughout the book. A very engaging and fun Halloween read. I did think the Satyr’s Head poem stuck out a little bit as not being very on theme with the rest of the collection. Maybe it was meant to be more autumn rather than spooky.

My favorite part of learning about poetry when I was in school was when we got to make our own, following patterns we learned in class. This book would be great just because of the fun spooky poems, but it becomes a must-have because of the information about different kinds of poems along with exercises where you can write your own. Kids can learn about how poems are constructed; my favorite is the one that shows the stanzas getting smaller as the mummy gets smaller. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this.

Gathered at the Table by Glenn’s Nellist (Sept. 9) Using poems, it explains Jesus last supper and his time at the table. Such a profound, kid appropriate explanation of the communion.

Rosie’s Wild Ride by Paige Murray (Oct 7) Her completion doesn’t go quite as planned, but what if we keep going and ask “What if I can?” as we follow big dreams! I can’t wait to get this for my daughter. Loved the illustrations.

Night Magic by Leigh Ann Henson (Sept 23) This was SUCH a fun book of information. Why does it take so long for the eye to adjust to night? Lots of great information with this book and at a child’s level.

The Mountain and the Goat by Slamk Taghaddas (Sept 23) I loved the concept of teaching resourcefulness in this one. Loved the storyline.

Sea Dog Boats by Astrid Sheckels (Jan 14) To learn all about boats, let the dogs lead the way. All about the ABCs and nautical adventures this is a really cute story!

Twelve Days of Summer by Sherri Meret (July 1) “On the first day of summer…” The animals take you on a summer adventure as you sing along! My kids LOVED this adorable book.

Franklin’s Trees by AJ Skenkman (July 1) A story about young President Franklin. A history major myself, this was a really cute informative book.

Outdoor Skills for Kids by Buck Tilton (June 3) My son thought this book was the bees knees. He learned so much from it and kept talking about “when you approach an animal this is what to do..” He was so excited to share all he learned.

This is a cute read and I think that the kids who enjoy the creepier sort will love this (Think Grizzly Tale for Gruesome kids type kids). I feel like this could do with a little more editing before official publications, but overall it was a fun read. Unfortunately, my niblings are a little too young for this so I won't be suggesting it to them, however, I would suggest this for school libraries. The Illustrations are fun and I especially love the vibes of the introduction and contents pages. The plant is so cool. This is very much something that I would have loved as a kid, even if my parents wouldn't have.
I think that there should be a section for activities at the back, rather than give them with each poem, as it feels a little in your face, however, I do think the activities themselves seem well thought out.

Joseph Coelho once again proves his unerring ability to write engaging poetry for young people of all ages. This latest book is filled with poetry for the spooky season that is perfect for reading aloud. I loved the illustrations that cleverly tread the line between creepy and comedy. This would be a great lower KS2 classroom book, with its notes about poetry types and invitations for children to complete their own poems using the prompts given.

Simple, age-appropriate poems. Not only does this book entertain, but it also educates—encourages readers to try their hands at writing their own poetry, while utilizing the different poetic techniques discussed.

Spooky Poems Aloud is a super cute picture book with creepy poems for the kiddos. Some of them were quite spooky, and the Halloween-loving child will absolutely adore these! I loved that there were little instructions to help children write their own poetry or little activities before many of the poems. I didn't feel like some of the poems themselves had quite they needed, but that is a matter of taste. Others were absolutely delightful!

This was a cute read for my kids, though some of them my 7 year old found quite creepy. I did notice some typos and overall I feel like there are some things the editor maybe should have caught (I'm looking at you page 30) but the poems did make my kids and me giggle together, which is really what I want out of a kids book. I also really enjoy the illustration. It's all very reminiscent of Shel Silverstein, and I love that. I could have gone without the little instructions at the beginning of many of the poems giving instruction for an accompanying kids activity. Perhaps that would have been better left to a section at the end of the book?

This was VERY good. I think it will inspire many little poets out there. The explanation on how to create different types of poetry may be difficult for a child to understand at first, but after reading the examples I think they will be inspired.
The illustrations are really pretty and, honestly, the poems are really good. As an adult, I really enjoyed them. The spooky/supernatural element makes it so interesting not only for kids but also for me.
This is a perfect book for artistic kids and, dare I say, I think it could be used in school too.
I would recommend it to parents and teachers!
I'll write the title down in case I ever have kids because it's just SO lovely.

This was actually our first Joseph Coelho book and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We love poetry books and this one was an instant favorite. I love the way the author inspires the reader to write their own poetry. I even learned some new types of poetry that I had never heard of before. The poems were fun to read. This would be great book for a Poetry Tea Time in October. I recommend it for any library and I can’t wait to read some of Joseph Coelho’s other poetry books.

I found Spooky Poes aloud a mixed bag. I enjoyed some very much and really didn't like others, saying that art is supposed to bring emotion so it did its job.

The older Children I work with (ks2) rather than the little ones (ks1) would enjoy some of these read aloud to them especially the werewolf and vampire ones.

What I liked the most was the explanations of the poetry and the guidance to the children to try and write poems themselves. Oh and the illustrations are great.

This is a great book to introduce poetry to children and make them fall in love with rhymes and poetry. It's a wonderful way to present funny and cute poems and inspire children to read more. I remember when I was young, little stories like this were the ones that made me fall in love with reading!
