A good children's book. I didn't love all the pictures but the storyline was good and enjoyed by the littles.
A really enjoyable read, this book will be great for early years. thank you for allowing me to read and review this book
This is a book I would not recommend. Because there are potentially hazardous things included in its pages. The author is trying to talk about a story between some birds and some kids that last through the years. But within the story, the kids feed ducks bread to keep the ducks away from the fish to help the birds. You shouldn’t feed ducks bread. They’re harming one animal to help another. Later in the story, they want to help the bird build a nest by offering its shoes and a yo-yo. To me that’s putting your garbage out in nature instead of where it should be. Then you have the section of where they’re trying to touch, this wild animal. There were just so many things about this book based on the content of the story that means I would never carry it in my library. Add that that the book looks and feels very self-published and not in a good way. This book feels like a high school student was rushing through an assignment to get it turned in.
Oliver the Osprey is a sweet story about Oliver who is an osprey and has a good life with his wife and 2 kids. However, he longs for human friendship. While flying around, he comes across two young boys who he knew were good, and from there, their friendship grew. The book has cute illustrations and great messages of friendship and living in harmony with nature.
Oliver the Osprey is a cute children's book that beautifully captures the essence of friendship and unity. Through Oliver's journey to connect with two nature-loving boys, Becket and Declan, readers are reminded of the importance of reaching out and embracing diversity. I enjoyed reading this book because it not only entertains but also teaches valuable lessons about empathy and acceptance, making it a delightful read for children and adults alike.

This book was absolutely adorable, I loved the spectacular illustrations in this. I wasn’t too familiar with Osprey, but I researched more into the animal after reading this book.
Yes, it’s meant for Children, but I really loved the cover and decided to read it on NetGalley. I loved the connection between the human boys and this osprey family. Nature is such a beautiful thing, I adored how this book tackled that along with family dynamics.
This book was clever and perfect for a younger reader, there’s no doubt they’ll love this story!

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with access to read this book!
Oliver the Osprey who frequents the ponds in Deer Valley reaches out to two human boys, Declan and Becket and introduces them to his family, wife Mylea and children Stella and Emmeline. Oliver and the boys enjoy fishing together. The ospreys help the children learn about nature and in turn they help Oliver provide for his family. They all learn that you can be friends with anyone, no matter who or what they are.
I wanted to rate this book higher. I really did. It has cute, colorful illustrations and has an important moral. I love ospreys and have spent a lot of time at Deer Valley. Perhaps I am being picky, but I couldn’t rate it higher for one reason. The author refers to ospreys as members of the eagle family and even uses the terms interchangeably. That isn’t really accurate. While I guess you could say the two are distant relatives they are not of the same family. And the drawings, although cartoonish, resemble eagles more than ospreys. While fantasy is fine in a book for children or adults, I just can’t support providing incorrect information. Interestingly, we have heard a number of people refer to a nesting osprey near Deer Valley as an “eagle”. Perhaps that is a local misconception?
If you are OK with that discrepancy, then this is a charming family read about friendships “between different worlds”.
This is a cute story with bright, simple pictures showing how wonderful it can be to respect and live in nature. The story doesn't stop with the original little boys who befriended an osprey -- future generations continue this wonderful relationship. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
Oliver the Osprey is a children's book about a family of osprey who befriend some humans.
This was a cute story! I liked the idea of animals and humans coexisting and getting along. I thought the pictures were cute as well. I think there was a good message in here about respecting animals and nature. I think kids will enjoy this story.
I really loved that the characters were named after the author's grandchildren, I think that is so cute!
Thanks so much to netgalley and the publisher for the arc of this one in exchange for an honest review!
This marked the first time that my child read ospreys as important characters, and Osprey as the MC in a book.
3.5 stars.
This is an ideal length and has a great message. The characters and their decisions and behaviours are lovely.
The illustrations are simple, however, this style is positive in the way that it is fresh and relatable.
