Emma Curtis’s books are an auto buy for me. This story follows Rachel who is married to Anthony, a much older man, who has a narcissistic, unpleasant daughter. Rachel forms an instant attraction with a fellow commuter, but then awakens in a hospital bed, unsure what has happened. And then she's told that her husband is dead. This is a twisty domestic thriller. I thoroughly enjoyed the first two-thirds of the novel, but with so many plot turns, I became a little confused towards the end. Nevertheless, this is a great read and the writing is superb.

Thank you to Emma Curtis, Atlantic Books and Netgalley for my advance copy.

This is a story of Love/Hate and manipulation that's packed with mystery and a network of clues leading you in different directions, trying to solve just who did what and why.
Going forward and backwards in time you're never quite sure who to believe, but it's written so well that you are keep enthralled throughout, and with a few surprises on the way that are most welcome and a well concluded ending this is a very good read my most enjoyable by the author to date.
Thanks to Netgalley and Atlantic Books for the ARC.

This is a brilliant read with an unusual plot. I’ve enjoyed Emma Curtis’ other books and I also really liked this one.
There were plenty of twists that kept me guessing throughout. A strong 4 star read.

A book that makes the hairs on the back of your neck tickle and the hairs in your arms stick up. I found it quite scary and the thought of not knowing what had happened in the past really debilitating. Brilliant read and so good!

Rachel wakes up from a coma and finds out she’s been in an accident and that her husband has died at their home. The police believe she was involved but she has no memory of the weeks leading up to these events. She has brief memories of a man on the tube and thinks he is significant in some way. Is he real and how does he fit into the turn of events?

I am always excited to see a new Emma Curtis book as you know you are in for a gripping, twisty ride and that’s exactly what we get from The Commuter. Straight away I was drawn into the story and compelled to carry on reading. There was so much mystery involved and I was constantly trying to connect the clues and work out what was going on! The twists were well executed and added a lot of surprising moments.

The author knows how to create a clever, complex plot with a lot of well written, and sometimes unlikeable, characters. I found myself really hoping that Rachel would get to the bottom of what was going on. Although this was a thrilling, dark read, It also had moments evoking empathy and emotion. This was definitely another entertaining, suspenseful page turner with great pace and a brilliant storyline. I will recommend and look forward to the next one! 4.5 stars. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this copy in return for an honest review.

Rachel wakes up from a coma following a car accident realising she has lost her memory from the previous weeks. Her husband has been murdered and she's now a wealthy widow, but why does it feel like she killed the man she loved? As Rachel's memory comes back she needs to remember who the man was she flirted with regularly on her commute, as it seems he knows some of these answers.

I really enjoyed the first third of this book, it was fast paced and set the scene well. But for me it then got a bit lost with the multiple POV not really helping, and whilst I finished it there wasn't the big ending I'd hoped for. The twists were a little disappointing and the number of trigger warnings is so high it was uncomfortable to read at times (TW: bulimia, coercive control, DV, parental estrangement)

I've read a lot of good reviews for this however, so I'm definitely in the minority for not really getting this book, so give it a go and see what you think! This is out in October, my thanks @netgalley for the ARC

Another gripping thriller by Emma Curtis.
Rachel loves her husband Anthony. OK so there is a big age difference, Anthony is very rich, which makes some people think Rachel is a bit of a gold digger, and Anthony has a daughter, Caroline, who is determined not to get along with Rachel, and just lately, Anthony has seemed to be very controlling, even resorting to physical violence with Rachel, but all marriages have a few ups and downs, don't they?
Rachel wakes up in a hospital bed, with no memory of how she got there. Doctors break the news that her husband is dead, murdered. Rachel is shocked and has no recollection of anyone who would want to hurt Anthony.
Her memory starts to come back very slowly in bits and pieces, leaving Rachel with only more questions. Could she really have killed her husband? Who is the handsome stranger who Rachel had seen on the train each morning? Could Caroline possibly be involved somehow?
Emma Curtis twists and turns the plot, and I don't see the ending coming. A brilliant read.

To say this book is gripping really doesn't do it justice, it is immense - in terms of psychological fiction, this ticks my boxes for days!

The story is that of a 30 something woman, Rachel, who falls for, and ultimately marries a man, her senior by a significant number of years. Twelve years into married life and the spark has gone, the dwindling flame having being thoroughly extinguished when husband, Anthony, hits Rachel over her disapproval over his enabling of narcissistic daughter , Caroline,, such that when Rachel meets a handsome stranger on the daily commute, her head is well and truly turned!

This is a novel of murder, attraction, and, highly significantly, amnesia! It is deliciously dark,,,and utterly unputdownable - I cant recommend this highly enough!

My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy.

I have read and enjoyed some of Emma Curtis's previous novels, but I think this one is my favourite so far. It is perhaps best entered into with a slight suspension of disbelief, but you will be repaid in spades for that minor concession.

Rachel is married to Anthony who is rich, successful and 25 years her senior. They have no children, although Anthony has a very problematic adult daughter, Caroline, from his previous marriage, who lives with them.

There are some tensions in the marriage - primarily around this issue and Anthony's health worries - which culminate in an incident when Anthony hits Rachel. Shocked and upset, she resol'ves to try to work things through, but at this point she encounters Sean, far younger than her husband and very attractive, in a rush hour train carriage.

A certain chemistry sparks between the two of them. There is a nice use of the device of a train delay and how this enables a kind of meet cute involving the Metro newspaper, crosswords and haiku.

So, what then happens between that incident and the time shortly afterwards, when Rachel wakes up in a hospital room after being in a car accident only to be told that Anthony has been murdered in their home while she was on the way there? It's hard to say, because Rachel finds that she has major gaps in her memory in the weeks leading up to the accident...

This is the kind of story best read in one sitting, so that the suspense can be enjoyed and the suspension of disbelief with respect to some of the plot twists maintained. A thoroughly entertaining book. It gets 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

Rachel is driving home, dangerously and over the limit to get back to her husband Anthony. We know very little else at the start.

Rachel married Anthony, a much older and hugely wealthy man and has been living a perfectly happy life, I enjoyed the detail here that Rachel works still, I find women retaining their independence always excellent to read and I liked Rachel, though I did find almost all of her decisions awful.

The book is largely hectic, different timelines, perspectives, and there are certainly more characters than some similar novels.

It’s an enjoyable read, slightly too over the top for me, I love twists but every single page turned into a melodrama.

I think this will be a well loved cosy read for those who like strong characterization and a story that doesn’t let up.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review, which this is.

I was on the fence about requesting this book. The cover is awesome, her last book was great, but previous books haven’t been my favorite. It was ok. Long. Lots of characters. And I ended up skimming more of it than anything else. Shocking ending though!

On the whole a decent read, with an interesting who dunnit.
Why, what and how did Anthony land up dead, and to what point was Rachel involved.
For me though, there were too many twists, making if feel a bit over the top.
But not wildly so that you enjoy the madness.
Good read.

Well what can I say Emma Curtis has knocked out another fantastic thriller. I was so excited to read this I had to stay up late to finish it. It had me gripped from the first page until the very last. It was a rollercoaster of a ride with so many twists and turns I could not work out who the culprit was.
This is such a talented author to write such fantastic books which seem to just get better and better.

Rachel is married to Anthony who is older and a very wealthy man. Anthony had a heart attack a few months ago and Rachel feels since then he has changed she isn’t getting on with her stepdaughter the atmosphere in the house isn’t very good. So when she catches the eye of a fellow commuter Rachel’s life takes a drastic turn.

I loved the writing style of the story it just flowed throughout. I thought the characters were so well developed that it felt so real. Overall I absolutely loved this book my favourite read this year. I can’t wait to recommend this fantastic thriller to everyone.

'The Commuter' jumped straight to the top of my TBR and I am very glad it did. Its absolutely packed full of twists and turns, no-one is who they seem at first or even second glance.

Rachel is married to a much older and very wealthy man Anthony; she loves him deeply but Caroline his adult daughter has never been a fan of Rachel's and even after 12 years of marriage is trying to separate Rachel and Anthony in any way she can. Rachel finally flips, telling Anthony a few home truths about his precious daughter - Anthony retaliates, hitting Rachel across the face. He's clearly crossed a line in their relationship and its up to Rachel how their marriage continues from here.

One day on a packed broken down tube, Rachel catches the eye of handsome stranger Sean. There's an immediate spark between them, and they find themselves meeting on the same train line again and again. Is this the man that Rachel has been waiting for? Or is the attraction between them more of a clue to the sorry state of her marriage?

The book zips forward and back in time, opening up with Rachel racing home from a party, trying to stop something from happening before its too late. Then we find out what might have led up to her decision, ping ponging back and forth in the story timeline.

The pace is fast and furious from start to finish - excellently entertaining and would make a wonderful netflix series.
