The short story was good. Basically a bunch of restaurant reviews which reveal a story, which I thought was a fun method of writing. Definitely felt like reading more and got a little scared at the end. Excited for the full book.

Not sure I got this. I'm sure it'd be more intriguing in the context of the wider book, but I think a more cohesive story would have been a better sampler for the full text.

Didn't realise this was just a sample of She's Always Hungry and I started reading it and was DEVASTATED when it ended and I realised it wasn't the whole book because I was so into it! I love Eliza Clark so was extremely excited for this anyway but now I'm absolutely rabid for November to come so I can get my hands on this!

I hadn't noticed that this was only a sample lol. It's the first thing I have ever read from Eliza Clark. I thought it was a really fun and unique format, and I got really invested in the reviews and seeing what unhinged thing would happen next. I'd love to read more of the stories in here

Sampler was alright the formatting was a bit odd so it threw me off. don't think this book is for me so I won't be going on to purchase the book

This was such a darkly fun story, told through reviews. It had horrifying undertones and left me ravenous for more of Clark’s writing.

I loved this short story sampler and I'm really looking forward to the full book! Eliza Clark's humour, wit, and dark comic voice is as raw and engaging in a series of restaurant reviews as it is in a full-length novel.

I need more! Such a weird little story, and yet it managed to intrigue me. Looking forward to reading the whole collection.

This 'She's Always Hungry' sampler included one short story called 'The Shadow Over Little Chitaly' which is only one of the many stories set to be released in this collection.
The short story basically read as a series of multiple bad/ odd reviews from people who had varying experiences with a restaurant called Little Chitaly. The reviews were mostly negative but mainly inferred that this 'Little Chitaly' restaurant was far from typical and extremely peculiar. Found this format of reviews as a short story to be incredibly funny and amusing as this is how I would often read user reviews of local restaurants - just turned out that this collection of reviews was much more entertaining.
And that last reply from Little Chitaly to regretful-return-buyer Hannah? Pure comedy!
Can't wait for the release of this book. I'm pre-ordering! Haha

Reviewing for the short story column in Mslexia issue 104 (I didn't realise this was a sampler!)
Full review to come. Thank you for the ARC!

Okay that was a bit strange. The "story" they included felt so random, and I didn't realize it was a sampler (even though I should be paying attention as a bookstagrammer). It left me feeling a bit annoyed! I haven't come across anything like this before on net galley - or at least something I would be requesting to read, so it took me by surprise. As for the story itself, it was just a series of fake reviews, which didn't provide a solid reading experience and made it hard to judge the book's quality. I don’t see how this type of sampler is useful for book reviewers trying to generate interest in the entire book. Based on this short "story," which like I said is just fake reviews, I can't give it a higher rating since it lacks any real substance. I hope the final collection is better, and I’d love to update my review!

This was such a unique way of formatting a short story!

I loved this, creepy, weird - the instagram account mentioned is real and even more weird. Very much looking forward to reading the rest of the collection!

I was sooooo excited to get the email saying I'd been approved for this ARC, and then I got so disappointed when I realised it was actually only a sampler. But what I did read was great, and it's just made me that much more hype for when the book really does come out and I get to read it

This is a great sample and I'd love to be able to read the whole book. The book cover looks great and is super appealing.

After reading the sampler of The Shadow Over Little Chitaly I can say that I am now even more excited to read the full short story collection!

It was such a wacky, creepy but also hilarious premise, it reminded me of something out of Black Mirror, where it’s open to the reader’s interpretation.
Eliza Clark really is a talent to watch!

Not quite sure exactly what i just read but I enjoyed it a lot! I love stories that are told through different mediums and the food delivery apps story told it perfectly.

We all know a Hannah (or we ARE hannah!) who despite disliking/questioning the restaurant would return to order again and again out of morbid curiosity.

I love Eliza Clark’s novels and I’m now even more excited to read this collection!

Humours, bizarre and intriguing as always! Counting down the days until I can get my hands on the full version.

Thank you to netgalley and faber for allowing me to read a sample story from this short story collection. I can’t wait for the full collection to come out now as I really enjoyed ‘The shadow over little chitaly’. This story made me laugh out loud, it was a tad weird but highly enjoyable.

With thanks to the author, publishers Faber and Faber Ltd, and NetGalley for providing with an eARC of this sampler in exchange for my honest review.

The sampler story, "The Shadow Over Little Chitaly" is certainly mysterious, which I liked. Lots of customers ordered from Little Chitaly using JustEats and got something completely different from what they ordered, but then a few got what they wanted and it tasted great. This range of good to bad reviews is probably a good representation of real restaurant reviews!

Then there's the weird delivery guy that appears impossibly quickly with the food and doesn't say very much, and in one instance stood staring at the customer's front door for 20 minutes after his delivery had been made!

So all in all a nice setup, but there was nothing at the end of the story to explain or even hint at what was going on, which left me scratching my head a little.

Overall this sampler story was unfortunately not for me, and didn't make me want to seek out the full collection.

I received an advance sample of this short story collection. The story I received was not what I had expected as a fan of Eliza Clark. The surrealism reminded me of Mona Awad, who I also enjoy. Very excited for this release and to read the other short stories. I will update my review at that point.

Thank you NetGalley and Faber and Faber for the advance sample!
