This is a great resource book for parents. It explains ADHD well and contains some useful strategies for navigating it. It's the type of book you can keep on hand as needed, and if one strategy isn't working for you, then you have more to try. There's something in here for every family to discover while they try navigating their children's and even their own ADHD.

First thoughts are that this author knows what she is talking about, being both a psychologist and having experience parenting a child with ADHD. The book promises 30 positive parenting techniques for joyful journeys.

the book starts with learning around what ASDHD actually is, dispelling common myths. Of course it is not possible to dive deep into ADHD without some understanding of the brain, and this area is explained well in this book. Positive parenting is also explained early on, and this sets the book up nicely for later success. Connection is heavily featured, with strong nurturing relationships being key to ensure the thriving component of this book is realised. The book is holistic on the sense that it looks at promoting social skills and self esteem in addition to more academic and organisational skills. More specific strategies including creating routine and structure are featured (I won't name the other strategies to avoid providing spoilers, but I will say this book speaks a lot of sense and will be so useful for parents and teachers navigating life with young people to support.

My thanks to Netgalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy.

As someone who has ADHD, this book is informative without being condescending, which a lot of books of this route tend to be. I wouldn’t say that the information in this book is groundbreaking. This is stuff that we’ve been told all our lives. However, when it’s broken down and told to us in a direct manner with examples of how to live with ADHD, it makes you reflect on how you can apply these on your every day life.

My son was recently diagnosed with ADHD so I had to read this. As an adult with ADHD, I don’t remember how I was able to cope as a child and there weren’t a lot of resources. I found that this book gave a lot of good advice and I plan on using it with my son.

As a friend of someone parenting a child with ADHD, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges and triumphs they experience daily as I visit often and try to support however I can. When I came across Thriving with ADHD by Erika Ramos Paz, I knew it would be a valuable resource not just for my friend but for anyone supporting a family navigating ADHD. This book is a thoughtful and practical guide that breaks down complex concepts about ADHD in a clear and accessible way. Ramos Paz’s insights into the ADHD brain and the myths surrounding it offer a refreshing perspective and help to demystify the condition. It’s evident that she’s done extensive research and has a deep understanding of ADHD, which she translates into actionable strategies that are both empathetic and effective.

What stands out in the book is its focus on positive parenting techniques. The book provides 30 practical methods for creating a supportive environment, which can be incredibly useful for anyone looking to assist a friend in their parenting journey. From establishing consistent routines to applying positive discipline, the strategies are designed to foster growth and build strong emotional connections.

One of the most valuable aspects of the book is its emphasis on celebrating a child’s strengths and setting realistic expectations. It’s easy to get bogged down by the difficulties, but Ramos Paz’s approach encourages a positive outlook, making it easier to support friends in focusing on their child’s potential and achievements. Having read through the book in less than a day, I was intrigued by the book the whole time and feel better equipped to offer meaningful support to my friend.

If you’re looking to support a friend with a child who has ADHD, I highly recommend this book. It’s a compassionate and practical resource that can make a real difference in understanding and supporting the unique journey of ADHD parenting.
