As a friend of someone parenting a child with ADHD, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges and triumphs they experience daily as I visit often and try to support however I can. When I came across Thriving with ADHD by Erika Ramos Paz, I knew it would be a valuable resource not just for my friend but for anyone supporting a family navigating ADHD. This book is a thoughtful and practical guide that breaks down complex concepts about ADHD in a clear and accessible way. Ramos Paz’s insights into the ADHD brain and the myths surrounding it offer a refreshing perspective and help to demystify the condition. It’s evident that she’s done extensive research and has a deep understanding of ADHD, which she translates into actionable strategies that are both empathetic and effective.

What stands out in the book is its focus on positive parenting techniques. The book provides 30 practical methods for creating a supportive environment, which can be incredibly useful for anyone looking to assist a friend in their parenting journey. From establishing consistent routines to applying positive discipline, the strategies are designed to foster growth and build strong emotional connections.

One of the most valuable aspects of the book is its emphasis on celebrating a child’s strengths and setting realistic expectations. It’s easy to get bogged down by the difficulties, but Ramos Paz’s approach encourages a positive outlook, making it easier to support friends in focusing on their child’s potential and achievements. Having read through the book in less than a day, I was intrigued by the book the whole time and feel better equipped to offer meaningful support to my friend.

If you’re looking to support a friend with a child who has ADHD, I highly recommend this book. It’s a compassionate and practical resource that can make a real difference in understanding and supporting the unique journey of ADHD parenting.
