I whole heartedly recommend this book for anyone thinking about building a fence. It's full of ideas to get you started. Whether it be a fence built of wood, masonry, or metal, he discussed each one. And one more that I had not thought about, a living fence. Beneke starts off the book with a short history of fences, which in itself, was interesting. He discusses the design and layout for your fence. There's a chapter on gates, what type do you want, and how to build one. Beneke finishes off with how to repair fences and gates.
The book is full of beautiful photographs to illustrate what he is talking about. And it's written in an easy to understand and follow manner.
I learned a great deal from this book. I'm going to buy a hard copy once it is published.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

Finding this book on #netgalley could not have been better timed as I'm currently looking at a solution for a privacy issue between my own garden and next-door neighbours.

Lots of great tips and ideas plus detailed photos and instructions on how to install and erect many styles.

A great reference book for your gardening and/or landscaping shelf.

Not just your pretty coffee table book. While the photos are beautiful, this book also comes with tips, rules and tricks to make your fencing choice an educated decision. Fun to look at even if you aren't getting a new fence, but if you are, this is the book for you!

This complete guide shows homeowners how to select and build fences that provide privacy and security, mark boundaries, hide unpleasant views, keep animals in or out, beautify a yard, and provide protection from the elements. Because different fences serve different purposes—a bright white picket fence might add curb appeal but won’t do much to secure your property from animals or people—it's important to think through the design process before the first hole is dug. Author Jeff Beneke walks readers through this planning process—High or low? Open or closed? Gated or no? Building with wood, metal, brick, concrete, or shrubbery? What type of fasteners? After the design and materials have been chosen, Beneke guides readers through the building process with illustrated step-by-step instructions. Also included is information on how to repair fences and gates that have been damaged by the ravages of time.

This is a very unique book. I cannot remember encountering many books just about fencing. However, it was an interesting read, particularly the history of fencing. As someone who is researching how to install a fence, I found this book very helpful, especially the bit about fence law and the need for a permit. This book provides extensive information about how to build a fence, and was extremely helpful. There were plenty of visual aids to help as well. I would recommend this book especially to those attempting to install their own fence.
