One of my favourite women and one of my favourite crochet designers, all in one book.
Lee is a fantastic designer, and I have admired her designs for years, She creates designs that are fun, adorable, functional, wearable and a joy to create.
Beautiful series of crochet designs inspired by Taylor Swift, so lots of hearts, beautiful garments and accessories as well as some home decor, and a gorgeous Taylor doll. The patterns are for two levels - easy and experienced, so there will be something for every skill set, and there is a Skill Level graphic on each pattern that goes from 1 to 4 so you will know if it’s a good fit for your experience.
The first thing I want to make, and believe me it was difficult to narrow it down to one, is the ‘Lover’ Pillow. It’s a gorgeous design and very eye catching, although the ‘Karma’ Cat Bag is also calling to me.
The patterns are well written and very detailed. Each one has all the information you will need to crochet every design.
I also love that throughout the book there are little quotes from Taylor.
If you are a Taylor Swift loving crocheter then you need to add this book to your collection.
A great book for the Swiftie in your life - this has a range of ideas and a nice variety of designs and items
Tested the scarf pattern, worked as a charm. I'm hoping to be able to make another one sometimes soon but the explanations were clear and efficient, although better suited for experienced crocheters.
I love this. If you're a swiftie, love crochet, or want to learn crochet, the projects in the book are super cute!
Thank you to the publisher for my eARC.
If you are a Swiftie and you love to crochet, you need this book. With lots of projects varying in skill ranges, there is something for every fan. I am in the process of making the Rep Taylor amigurumi and I can't wait to see how it turns out. I wish there had been a few more pics of some of the projects as they progressed instead of just the final product. But overall, this is such a fun and timely book.
Thank you to netgalley for the arc!
When I see a pattern book for crochet or knitting available as an arc, it's always exciting because I knit and crochet, and getting a sneak preview into what'll be released is such a treat. Since some of my friends really like Swift, why not take a peak! In general, I think the contents are pretty well; the writing itself and the patterns read well, but it might be a tough read for someone new to crocheting. With a tie-in book, you'll get new people interested in this craft, so having the Helpful Info in the front with a mention of the stitches in the back is a great move! In general, the patterns are cute; not necessarily something I would crochet but I can absolutely see the appeal. I think the tutorial images are great and the images in general that are on a white background are great.
My big qualm comes with how the project images are shown, especially when it comes to the wearables. Those pictures are your selling point; if the images of the final projects look messy or not properly cut out, you're not gonna be excited to make it. I think the idea of having an illustrated girl to represent Swift was cute, but execution wise I don't love it, especially when it interferes with the projects. Having a real person model the projects not only shows me how the projects wear, in terms of wearables (especially the tops!), but how fabric drapes, the sizing of the final project, and the context of the lighting (which can make a project look great or blah). With the projects slapped on top of the illustrations, it does not look professional. I know it's a cute crochet book, but the cute vibe could have been achieved by keeping that scrapbooking feel throughout! The evermore doll looks the best pattern wise because we see the full project, and I like how the closeups are "taped" on like a scrapbook. I also think having these images on a coloured gradient background worked against them; the Majorie blanket being the prime example. You can see the white of the original backdrop through all of the crochet stitches, not to mention it feels like it was hastily pinned on a wall to photograph; if you're making a rectangle blanket with a border, you'd expect it to end up as a rectangle and not warped like the example; it makes me not want to make it. Another example is the You Belong with Me Pillow; the pom pom on the right literally has a border of white over the black sleeve because it was not cut out right and the right hand isn't drawn well.
A lot of these seem like nitpicks, and some are, but every little bit adds up. This is not a slight on the pattern designer at all; it takes a team to make a book, let alone a pattern book. The patterns are great and the instructions are written well! Because of the presentation, however, and the hasty looking illustrations paired with it, it feels more like a rushed cash grab than a solid attempt at a pattern book made for crocheters. I'm not surprised by that fact, but it's just unfortunate because this could have been a great recommendation to give parents looking for a new book for their kids who are fans, but I will not be recommending this at our store.
This book has some really cute patterns. I love the way that it is organized by mood with different levels of projects for each mood. I'm not a huge Taylor Swift fan so I don't know how inspirational a real Swiftie would find the projects, but it's fun, colourful book. I think it would make a great base to a learn to crochet kit as a gift for a Swiftie in your life.
Easy patterns with clear instructions - anyone will be able to benefit from this book, from beginners to absolute crochet pros!
I would actually like to see some more practical projects though that represents Taylor’s music career a bit more in depth.
As a fellow Swifite, I would recommend giving this one a go :)
Solid patterns! I think you can tell that this book was compiled with Taylor Swift fans in mind, but was not necessarily written by a huge Taylor Swift fan. I think some opportunities were missed to really dig into her music and reference the fandom in the different project descriptions and decorative text elements. That aspect felt a little service level.
This is a full-color crochet book based on Taylor Swift songs. The style of the book is very whimsical and sure to please Swifties. The patterns are nice and range from many different styles of crochet including filet and granny square. The items include a rug or a throw made of roses. I think that was my favorite. There are journal covers, amigurumi, a really cute headband. There is a crochet cap that is the newsboy style Taylor Swift has worn in many pictures. Some of the patterns are simple enough for an advance beginner.
I love how incredibly niche this book is… not only for Taylor Swift fans but for crocheters as well! I feel like I like Taylor Swift a normal amount (I like some of her songs and I appreciate her craft but I am not obsessed) and I just started crocheting… so when I saw this on Net Galley I decided to give it a whirl.
The instructions were clear and easy to follow even for a beginner like me. I loved that there was a variety of projects to do.
I can totally see where they were trying to go graphically with the style of this book and the images. But there was something that bothered me about it. I can’t put my finger on it.
The best picture was page 42. That concept of the Lavender Haze top I think looked the best and matched the vibe I would expect from a book like this.
Overall you can tell it was made by a talented crocheter and I would buy another themed book from her if she made one.
Hey kids, crocheting is fun! For Swifties who love to get crafty (and I know there are a lot of them), it’s great when your hobbies collide. This is a beautifully made and clear guide, with tips and tricks for both beginners and experts, along with a section to explain some of the basics, accompanied by photos. This will be a great gift for a young fan who is working on their skill.
Thank you to Quarto Publishing and NetGalley for the digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
As a Swifty, I adored this book. All the patterns looked super cute and easy! This book would be a perfect holiday gift or a "just because" gift.
If you like crochet and Taylor Swift (my two personalities) then this is a really fun book, and someof these patterns are really fun. I especially love the Lavender Haze top.
Is the Swiftie in your life sad that Taylor’s Eras Tour has finished its US stops? If so, cheer them up with the Unofficial Taylor Swift Crochet book (or something you crocheted from it).
The book has 21 different crochet patterns with skill levels varying from beginner to experienced. The patterns are based on Taylor’s songs. They are even grouped into chapters based on what album the songs were on. Each pattern links to the song lyrics or videos. For example, one cardigan pattern is linked to Wildest Dreams, while another sweater is linked to Cardigan. You Belong to Me has a friendship bracelet pillow. A Taylor doll pattern is linked to Evermore by the coat she wears on the cover. Another Taylor doll is wearing her stage clothing, hair and makeup for her Reputation tour. It is just undeniably cute.
As a lifelong crocheter, the patterns are very easy to follow and include some illustrations to help beginners. My favorite part, besides how creatively each pattern is linked to Taylor’s work, is the sizing for all the clothing goes from XS to 5X.
Even though I am not a Swiftie (because ballads are really not my style), I would still purchase the Unofficial Taylor Swift Crochet. The patterns are original, pretty and size inclusive. What’s not to love? 5 stars and a favorite!
Thanks to NetGalley and Quarry Books for providing me with an advanced review copy.
This is such a cute book for Swifties & crocheters of all levels! There are so many patterns relating to different Taylor eras, including the “All Too Well” scarf that I’m beyond excited to work up for myself! All patterns are labeled with a difficulty setting from beginner to expert, so there’s something for all crocheters!
I LOVE Taylor Swift and I LOVE crochet! This book has my heart and I can’t wait to work on these patterns
I follow several crochet accounts online so I have seen Unofficial Taylor Swift Crochet: 20+ Projects Inspired by the Music and Style Icon around lately. This one looked like fun so I jumped at the chance to grab a review copy over at NetGalley. I like Lee Sartori’s designs, I’ve tried her crochet patterns before. I have her other pattern book The Official Harry Potter Crochet Pattern Book.
Ther’s 21 crochet patterns in Unofficial Taylor Swift Crochet. Some of the projects are “Lover” Pillow, “Wildest Dreams” Cardigan, “Blank Space” Journal and “Back to December” Hooded Cowl. There’s even two cute Taylor Swift doll patterns you can make so there’s plenty of projects here to choose from.
These are not just Lee Sartori’s designs, there are other pattern designer’s projects here. While I have not crocheted anything from this collection, I love the presentation, the creativity of the projects and the patterns look clearly written and easy to follow. I would say an advanced beginner could try some of the patterns but there are mostly more advanced projects here for the seasoned crocheter. This collection is great if you are a “Swiftie” yourself or have one in your life who you want to crochet something for.
If you're a Swiftie and love to crochet, this book is definitely for you!
In this book, you will find patterns representing some of Taylor's most popular songs... like the Folklore cardigan or the Red scarf.
If you're looking for a gift for a fellow Swiftie, you'll be sure to find something in this book for every Swiftie in your life...
