This is one of those cute but cheesy and over the top instant-love reads that is also a bit predictable. With that said, it is a cozy little rom-com that is a quick and easy read.

I received an arc in exchange for my honest review.

I gave this a 3.5 but rounded up to 4. This was a fun contemporary romance, but for me just felt like it was missing something.

The story itself was a solid contemporary romance featuring a main character who lacks self awareness and is sent to Scotland to learn a lesson.

While we get to see the main character really settle into a different life in Scotland I didn’t feel like it told the best story of her learning to be more self aware. We miss that part of her story. It is there in the end but read more like an epilogue rather than important character development.

The book was a little predictable, but that is not a bad thing. It can be a comfort to read something new but able to anticipate its next move.

I would recommend this book if you are looking for a comforting contemporary romance. It isn’t exactly cozy but there is a sort of comforting quality to it.

“It turns out fairy tales don’t actually come close to an accurate representation of love. My love for Fraser Bell is far more than any sonnet or speech or love story could ever contain. Love can’t be bundled up into words or song. My love for him is the trees; it is the ground beneath my feet; it is Scotland, the pearl of the world, and a pocket of the universe too beautiful to be retold. Bad days will still happen. Just because I am loved, it doesn’t mean my sadness is suddenly eradicated like a villain defeated once and for all. The villain will return, for a sequel, a trilogy, maybe even a franchise. But each time that villain is weaker. Each time, I am better equipped for battle. And each time, I have faith in the knowledge that happy always comes after.”

a very very beautiful and heartfelt story of not only love but self love and happiness and self happiness, of found family, of growth.

alice's journey was super special to me, I emphasize with her in some ways and she gives me hope in another's.

fraser is a dream!!! god bless highlanders they never let me down (yea I'm thinking about james fraser too, like he's the standard)

sophie, mary, jimmy were fantastic side characters, and callum too. I would dare to say even the king was.

I'll look forward to the author's next book to catch a glimpse of fraseralice and how they're doing!!

Thank you to Avon Books UK and Megan Clawson for approving the request for an eARC of Regally Blond. This romance caught my eye as I love Legally Blond. This twist on the movie sees a wayward royal searching for Prince Charming, finding only toads and a disgrace until her shenanigans get her banished to the backwaters of the Scottish Highlands for a time out.

Kilted Lovers is a fun rom-com with some important mental health themes running through the opposites attract romance plot. She's sensitively encapsulated the challenges and realities of depression and anxiety into the plot of the story. Megan Clawson weaves an interesting tale of self-discovery and finding love through being true to yourself with plenty of fun antics, conflict, and sizzling tension.

Their romance is a journey of transformation, challenging Fraser and Alice to look beyond their first bad impressions (piping at a silly o'clock morning wake-up call is one way to get on a party girl's bad side). Alice comes to life as she finds her path, dropping her royal frivolous socialite to show her vulnerable side with her insecurities and self-doubt along her warmer, kinder side. Through being their true self, she finds real connection, genuine friendship, and someone who loves her for who she is, not her status. Fraser might be all gruff, a loner on the outside, break through that grumpy crust; there is a warm heart of gold who will do anything for those he loves and cares for.

A romantic comedy that perfectly blends royal escapades with some imaginative license, personal transformation, and gorgeous highland vibes (countryside and highlander hunks) into a story full of warmth, fun, and plenty of laughs. It's a perfect read if you're looking for a nice, sweet, light-hearted romance to give you all the warm fuzzies for your spring TBR!

I really enjoyed this Royal romance between a British princess with depression and the royal pipe major/stable hand she meets when she spends the summer at Balmoral. There's great mental health rep, female friendship and found family not to mention a swoony, Jamie Fraser worthy MMC. Great on audio with fantastic accents and perfect for fans of authors like Pepper Basham. The depression rep in this book is just so well done and relatable and made the FMC so easy to root for. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review.

This is my third Megan Clawson book.

I feel I know her style of writing well and this felt like catching up with an old friend. Like a lot of the similar style I find them quite predictable, but still enjoy the journey to get the outcome. And I find them a nice easy quick read, and I really like that sometimes, depending on what I've read before, and I always know I won't be disappointing. I really love that Megan's love of history comes through them and I know the books will be well researched, which I enjoy.

Lady Alice Walpole, 22, a working British royal and the granddaughter of Princess Alexandra, has just earned a degree in Philosophy and now spends her time with other privileged friends such as herself doing nothing. When she brings a young man home and is very drunk, her parents have had enough. She is taking antidepressants and should not be drinking. So, her parents decide to send her to Balmoral for the summer.

Once there, she is lonely and depressed. She is awakened each morning by a piper playing the bagpipes. At first she finds this irritating but gets used to it after having met the piper, Fraser Bell. He is just trying to do the best he can in his job. Alice is also friended by Sophie her maid who is quite funny. They get along quite well.

As Alice gets to know Sophie and Fraser better, she only wants to be their equal and friend. While Sophie is happy with that, Fraser is more reserved. But they do have some adventures that make Alice happy and brings her out of herself.

Alice is still intent on Atticus and convinced that they will marry. But, sometimes, life doesn’t work out how we think it should. However, that isn’t always a bad thing. When she learns how Atticus has strung her along, she retaliates against him and gets banished back to Balmoral once more. There she resumes her friendship with Sophie and Fraser as she finds him a comfort and likes being around him. Can the difference in their status in life be overcome so they can be together?

I found this book to be quite different from others I’ve read. Yes, Alice is depressed by she also almost seems to be a bit autistic. It’s the rigid life of the royals that must be followed to the letter that can squelch the life out of someone. I assume that is the point of this book.

This book was really cute to begin with. It was lighthearted, sometimes funny, cheesy and predictable. If the ‘Princess Diaries’, ‘Bridget Jones’ and ‘Wild Child’ had a baby, it would be this book. Kinda.

However, when our main character, Alice, kisses the piper and then immediately falls in love with him, that’s where my enthusiasm for this book died. After this, the thin plot just became even more ridiculous. There was no character development whatsoever. There was literally no connection or development of the main relationship.

The best part of the story was the side characters.

I wasn't sure what to make of Alice at the beginning of the book and didn't really warm to her immediately but as the story progressed I started to see where she was coming from and enjoyed her as a character.

The characters felt real and well thought out

Also loved Fraser!
Highly recommend

Clawson's writing is fantastic, quick-witted, and burns bright. I thoroughly enjoyed this read.
The characters were well-developed and had great chemistry. The plot was fast-paced and full of twists and turns. The writing was engaging and descriptive. I couldn't put it down until I finished it.

I received this book as an ARC. This is just my personal opinion. It was another brilliant book by Megan Clawson. I loved it, I couldn't put it down once I started it. I finished it in one go. I loved the way their relationship developed. Loved the story line, kept you guessing on what would happen next. Which keep it interesting. Made me laugh. Would recommend.

sadly gonna have to dnf this one. the premise, while unique, was almost a bit too bonkers and i was not liking/enjoying any of our characters so far 😭 the modern royalty vibes were there for sure if that’s your cup of tea! i’ve also heard it was a closed door romance for those who enjoy!

♡ Thank you for the free ARC, Avon Books and NetGalley.

I enjoyed the previous two books by this author, so had to pick this ARC up as soon as it fell onto my radar. The cover alone is adorable! I cannot wait to get a physical copy. I found this story just as delightful as the other books, and look forward to more from this author. Read if you like: reverse grumpy x sunshine, royal romance, slow burn, friends to lovers, or love triangles.

Kilted Lovers
by Megan Clawson

Kilted Lovers by Megan Clawson is a charming royal romance with an emotional depth that took me by surprise. I loved the enemies-to-lovers dynamic between Alice and Fraser—her a rebellious royal, him a reserved Scottish piper. Their chemistry was undeniable, and I was rooting for them from the start.
Beyond the romance, this book beautifully explores mental health, self-discovery, and finding true belonging. Alice’s struggles felt raw and real, and her growth throughout the story was inspiring. Fraser was the perfect balance—patient, kind, and unwavering in his support for her.
The setting in Balmoral was magical, and the secondary characters added warmth and humor, making the story feel like a cozy hug. While parts of the book felt predictable, the heartfelt journey and emotional depth made it a worthwhile read. A perfect romance for a cozy afternoon with a cup of tea!

Megan Clawson’s Kilted Lovers is a charming and insightful novel that blends romance, self-discovery, and social responsibility. At its heart, the story follows a privileged royal who, after years of indulgence, embarks on a journey that challenges her perceptions and pushes her to use her status for a greater purpose.

Clawson crafts a compelling protagonist whose transformation is both entertaining and inspiring. The novel’s rich character development and engaging storytelling make it easy to root for the heroine as she navigates new experiences, unexpected relationships, and a deeper understanding of her role in the world. The Scottish setting and cultural elements add depth to the narrative, enhancing its charm and appeal.

Beyond the romance, Kilted Lovers delivers a meaningful message about the importance of giving back and using privilege for good. It’s a story that not only entertains but also encourages readers to reflect on their own contributions to society.

With its perfect mix of humor, heart, and a touch of Scottish allure, Kilted Lovers is a delightful read for fans of romance and personal growth stories. Megan Clawson once again proves her talent for crafting uplifting and thought-provoking narratives.

I am in love with everything Fraser and Alice right now…their story was so perfectly imperfect so just couldn’t help but adore them.

It’s been a while since I’ve read a royal romance throw in the enemies to lovers trope and I was hooked. It made me realise just how much I love them.

From the moment Fraser and Alice’s eyes met there was a connection and I was rooting for them instantly.

Not only were the main characters fun to read but the secondary characters had me smiling, laughing and loving them. The whole place feels like one big family and it made my heart so happy.

Although fun to read, Kilted Lovers does include hard hitting topics such as mental health issues. The things this woman has gone through, goes through may seem minimal to others but shows how much mental health can impact in different ways.

Seeing the character growth throughout the book has been wonderful to watch and I’m just in awe right now.

Kilted Lovers is a royal enemies to lovers romance. A book about finding one’s self in things that matter. A book about realising family isn’t just blood but those who make you feel safe and grounded. It’s heartbreaking at times but beautiful.

Disgraced and sent to Scotland to be away from the public eye, Alice is forced to think about her life and decide if it is truly what she wants. Insert hot Scotmans and we have the most perfect book. Royalty is always such a fun concept to write and this gave me so much joy to read.

I enjoyed this book it was a very sweet rom-com.

Alice has been banished to Balmoral as she keeps disgracing herself and her parents feel she should stay away from the public. She meets Sophie & Fraser who she enjoys being friends with them as her so called friends seem to have disappeared. We see the ups and downs of what happens to Alice through the book where she discovers herself.

I liked the book it was a nice book and I found the book sad and happy in places. It will be a nice book to read on holiday.
