As someone who grew up with „The little Prince“ as the first book she can remember, I was thrilled about this publication.
As the „Little People“ books usually are, this one, too, is really cute and nice.
With thanks to the author, publishers Quarto Publishing Group, and NetGalley for providing me with an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Another worthwhile installment in the Little People, BIG DREAMS series!
I had not heard of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry or his book The Little Prince, so I found this book very educational. His story as presented is a fascinating one, touching initially on his curiously as a child, then followed by his inability to exist in a ‘normal’ career in adult life and his need for adventure. It then moves on to describe his contribution as a pilot for his native France and his achievements as a writer. Although he died quite young in the service of his country, this book clearly showed the extent of his achievements and accomplishments in that time.
The illustrations in the book were beautiful also as usual, while I always enjoy the timeline presented at the end of all books in this series which gives more info on the book’s subject as well as references to books for those that want to find out more.
Wonderful stuff!
The 120th picture book in the Little People Big Dreams series introduces us to author, pilot, mailman, and illustrator Antoine Saint-Exupéry - better known as the writer of The Little Prince.
The book opens in Lyon, France in the early 1900s. Antoine zooms around the garden, eyes closed, pretending to fly, while his sisters climb trees and attend teddy bear picnics. He writes poety and draws elaborate plans for a flying bicycle - something not far from a sketch of his future life.
In bold, joyful artwrok, we see him join the military, learn to fly, and become a postal pilot - delivering letters in Europe and Africa; gaining material for later books.
In 1935, Saint-Exupéry and his mechanic famously crash in the Sahara, where they are rescued after four days by a Bedouin. The experience inspires the memoir Wind, Sand and Stars and Saint-Exupéry’s later book The Little Prince.
At the end, he takes his plane on one last flight and never returns: as enigmatic an end as any poem. The final illustration of Saint-Exupéry and the Little Prince admiring the rose and the moon together makes a bittersweet closing image.
'Antoine Saint-Exupêry' is a short, satisfying bedtime read and introduction to the author and his most famous work. His troubles are only very lightly hinted at, and the bright artwork brings energy to his adventures. Lovely cover art and illustrations throughout.
Another great title from the "Little People, BIG DREAMS" series! I absolutely love "The little prince", it's such a beautiful little book, I didn't know much about Antoine de Saint-Exupery, so I found this book quite educational. As always Ms. Sanchez-Vegara wrote a winner. I am a big fan of all these books, love the writing style and the illustrations. Perfect for both kids who want to learn more about well-known people. :)
I received an ARC for #AntoinedeSaintExupéry from #NetGalley
One of my favorite author wrote about another favorite author, what a pleasure it is. Antoine was born rich, but always had his curious mind on things, and settled on flying things. Through his adventures, he wrote books, one of most beloved book of Le Petit Prince, written in both French and English by himself. His book is well-loved, yet this is the first time I read about his life. And as usual, the inspiring story of a pilot-turned-writer is well made.
Here's a children's book about a children's book author-a fascinating concept, right? Antoine de Saint-Exupery, the author of The Little Prince, a children's book that has captivated readers worldwide, is this book's subject. As part of the Little People, BIG DREAMS series, this edition chronicles Antoine's life from his early years to his tragic end during the war. The book's central theme is how Antoine consistently fought to follow his dreams of being in the sky while incessantly pursuing his love for reading and writing. The illustration is whimsical and follows mostly a tone of shades of brown to mirror Antoine's pilot uniform. Antoine de Saint-Exupery's biography for kids is an excellent addition to your collection, inspiring children to follow their dreams just like Antoine did. Whether you're 4 or 94, this book will motivate you to reach for the sky!
This biography of Antione de Saint-Exupéry made me so emotional! I was very familiar with the children's' classic, The Little Prince, but I didn't know much AT ALL about the author. The beautiful illustrations that accompany the story of his life perfectly capture the heart of this man and his stories. My children and I particularly loved the moment we read how Antoine flew around in circles one day so he could finish reading a story (dangerous yet totally relatable). I never knew about his time serving in the French air force during WWII or his immigration to the US to help war efforts. Nor did I know about his disappearance. This story is a perfect addition to a beloved series!
This title from the Little People, Big Dreams series is adorable, looking back on the author of The Little Prince and how he achieved his favorite dream. The illustrations are on point!
TL;DR: A beautifully illustrated and inspiring read, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry brings the life of the beloved author and pilot to young readers. Five stars!
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara is a delightful addition to the Little People, BIG DREAMS series. This charming biography introduces young readers to the remarkable life of the pilot and writer, detailing his adventurous spirit and dreams of flying.
The stylish illustrations beautifully complement the text, making it a captivating experience. I love how the book highlights Antoine’s struggles and triumphs, and how they shaped his writing.
This book inspires children to follow their dreams and reminds them that extraordinary individuals start as curious little ones. With extra facts and a biographical timeline included, this read is both engaging and educational. Five stars for this enchanting journey into the life of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry!
Another fantastic book in the series, coming out on 5 November.
My four-year-old and nine-year-old both love the Little People, Big Dreams series. This latest book focuses on the life of author, artist and aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry presenting his childhood and career with simple text and beautiful illustrations reminiscent of the style used in de Saint-Exupéry's famous children's book, The Little Prince.
A recommended read for fans of The Little Prince and fun educational reads for children.
Thank you to Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I love how this picture book about the author of The Little Prince ties in imagery from his book. This is a great tandem read to understand this classic author and his writing on a higher level. I loved the colors of the illustrations and the funny quirks that are sure to have the children laughing as they read. I can see this book being used by elementary teachers who want to show their students how an author's life can tie into their fiction.
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Received for review: I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Why did I decide to turn the pages? I love Sanchez Vegara's books, and so I always jump on the opportunity to read them when I can.
My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: I love Sanchez Vegara's books. The illustration style is fun and simple and does a good job of representing the story being told. Sanchez Vegara also does a good job of distilling people's lives into an easily digestible tale. I didn't know much about this author, so it was enjoyable to learn more about him. I love how Maria includes a fuller biography in the back for people who want to learn even more. And, I also love how Maria covers people from such diverse backgrounds in her books (time period, age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, etc.)
Pages: 32
Reading age: 4-7 years of age.
Love,
Danica Page
This author also illustrated his small book The Little Prince which is a favorite of dreamers of all ages.
The illustrations by Martin Le Lapin are simple, colorful, and expressive.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to everyone, but especially to a school or your local public library!
I requested and received a temporary uncorrected proof on Adobe Digital Editions from Quarto Publishing Group/Frances Lincoln Children's Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

Little People, BIG DREAMS is a series that I have just discovered and I am glad, because the catalogue has so many personalities for me to re-discover and discover. Each book is the perfect pocket sized read for parents to read along with the kids or for kids to read it themselves. I love the illustrations by Martin Le Lapin — whimsical and alluring they perfectly compliment the gregarious story telling of Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara.
As someone who has editorial experience in writing for YA and teens, children's non-fiction is genre that I am very invested in and this series just re-instates my belief in pursuing a career in book publishing for children's fiction.
Looking forward to next release of an icon in history for children to learn about.
I did not know the story of the author of the Little Prince and was pleasantly surprised that this book was about him. This is not my favorite of the Little People Big Dreams collection. The story seemed disjointed.
Yet another great book from a fantastic series.
I havnt yet found one of these books that didn't teach me new facts about someone - even celebrities that I thought I knew a lot of stuff about.
This time, if I am honest, I wasn't sure who Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was so from start to finish it was all new information I was learning
It was told in a fun way, which didn't make it feel boring in any way and would keep the attention of the younger audience who may struggle to keep their attention on the book.
Cute illustrations too that are eyecatching
Great book.
I always love reading and reviewing books from the "Little People, Big Dreams" series, and this book about Antoine de Saint-Exupéry didn't fall short. The author made sure to include just enough information to both fully educate and maintain the interest of the reader; there was a perfect balance. Another thing that worked really well for this book was the illustrations. They matched and complemented the writing very nicely. The illustrator definitely captured Exupéry's whimsical and romantic view in the first few pages, and started the book off with a joyful note than rang out through the rest of the book. I have absolutely no bad things to say about this book.
Bravo!
I love the Little People, Big Dreams series and thought that this book made an excellent addition. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry led a fascinating life and I thought that the way the author told the story made it very engaging to read but also accessible to a younger audience. As always with this series, I liked that the author focused on the personality traits that led to the success of Le Petit Prince (creativity, determination and curiosity) rather than solely focusing on how many copies of the book were sold etc. The illustrations were adorable and really helped to tell the story. I liked that at the end there is a biography written for a more grown up audience as well as book recommendations.
Overall I thought this was a great addition to the series and it has inspired me to read Le Petit Prince which somehow I have never got round to read despite it being a lot of peoples' comfort book!
WoW! Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara books must be one of the best little books to purchase for children, these are the best-selling series of books and educational games that explore the lives of outstanding people, from designers and artists to scientists and activists. All of them achieved incredible things, yet each began life as a child with a dream.
So, this latest book is about Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Little Antoine grew up in Lyon, France. Ever since his first flight as a young boy, he dreamed of becoming a pilot. When he joined the French army during WWI, he finally got his chance. He spent a short time in the Air Force before leaving to become a mail pilot, all the while writing about his adventures.
However, in 1935, he crashed in the desert during a flight from Paris to Saigon. With little food and water to hand, he became very ill. Fortunately, after four days, he was found by a passerby and nursed back to health. This experience influenced much of Antoine's future writing.
I am so glad these books are being published and I highly recommend all of these books
Many thanks to Quarto’s Frances Lincoln Children’s Books and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Adults who love The Little Prince and kids who may just be learning about de Saint Exbury will both enjoy this entry in the good series. Watch young Antoine grow up and find his way to becoming a pilot (he faces a few challenges). Read about all that he accomplished before his life ended to soon.
My favorite part of the story is when the author says that, when flying a mail plane, Antoine circled the airport for an hour so that he could finish his book. What a book lover!
After sharing this book with a child, buy a copy of Le Petit Prince for them. They may treasure it for many years.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for this title. All opinions are my own.
