Description
In this book from the critically acclaimed, multimillion-copy best-selling Little People, BIG DREAMS series, discover the life of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, the talented pilot and writer.
Little Antoine grew up in Lyon, France. He was a curious and creative child who enjoyed reading fairy tales, setting up experiments and writing. Fascinated by planes, he always dreamt of taking to the skies. When he joined the French army during WWII, he finally got the chance. Antoine spent a short time in the air force before leaving to become a mail pilot, all the while writing about his adventures in the clouds.
In 1935 he crashed in the desert during a flight from Paris to Saigon. With only a few supplies, he became very ill. Fortunately, after four days, he was found by a passer-by and nursed back to health. This experience influenced much of Antoine's future writing. Later, he moved the United States where he campaigned for France's freedom from Nazism. During this period he wrote the Little Prince, the captivating story of love and loss which became one of the best-selling children's book of all time.
This powerful book features stylish and quirky illustrations and extra facts at the back, including a biographical timeline with historical photos, and a detailed profile of the writer’s life.

I always love reading and reviewing books from the "Little People, Big Dreams" series, and this book about Antoine de Saint-Exupéry didn't fall short. The author made sure to include just enough information to both fully educate and maintain the interest of the reader; there was a perfect balance. Another thing that worked really well for this book was the illustrations. They matched and complemented the writing very nicely. The illustrator definitely captured Exupéry's whimsical and romantic view in the first few pages, and started the book off with a joyful note than rang out through the rest of the book. I have absolutely no bad things to say about this book.
Bravo!
WoW! Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara books must be one of the best little books to purchase for children, these are the best-selling series of books and educational games that explore the lives of outstanding people, from designers and artists to scientists and activists. All of them achieved incredible things, yet each began life as a child with a dream.
So, this latest book is about Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Little Antoine grew up in Lyon, France. Ever since his first flight as a young boy, he dreamed of becoming a pilot. When he joined the French army during WWI, he finally got his chance. He spent a short time in the Air Force before leaving to become a mail pilot, all the while writing about his adventures.
However, in 1935, he crashed in the desert during a flight from Paris to Saigon. With little food and water to hand, he became very ill. Fortunately, after four days, he was found by a passerby and nursed back to health. This experience influenced much of Antoine's future writing.
I am so glad these books are being published and I highly recommend all of these books
Many thanks to Quarto’s Frances Lincoln Children’s Books and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I love the Little People, Big Dreams series and thought that this book made an excellent addition. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry led a fascinating life and I thought that the way the author told the story made it very engaging to read but also accessible to a younger audience. As always with this series, I liked that the author focused on the personality traits that led to the success of Le Petit Prince (creativity, determination and curiosity) rather than solely focusing on how many copies of the book were sold etc. The illustrations were adorable and really helped to tell the story. I liked that at the end there is a biography written for a more grown up audience as well as book recommendations.
Overall I thought this was a great addition to the series and it has inspired me to read Le Petit Prince which somehow I have never got round to read despite it being a lot of peoples' comfort book!
Adults who love The Little Prince and kids who may just be learning about de Saint Exbury will both enjoy this entry in the good series. Watch young Antoine grow up and find his way to becoming a pilot (he faces a few challenges). Read about all that he accomplished before his life ended to soon.
My favorite part of the story is when the author says that, when flying a mail plane, Antoine circled the airport for an hour so that he could finish his book. What a book lover!
After sharing this book with a child, buy a copy of Le Petit Prince for them. They may treasure it for many years.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for this title. All opinions are my own.

Firstly, a huge thank you to the author, Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara, the illustrator, Martin Le Lapin, the publisher, Frances Lincoln Children's Books, and NetGalley for the privilege of being able to read this very cute children's biographical book about Antoine de Saint-Exupery. I will share my review to Amazon, Goodreads, and Barnes & Noble upon release.
This installment in the Little People, Big Dreams series focuses on Antoine de Saint-Exupery, the French poet, author, journalist, and pilot. The story starts with the French pilot as a young boy, when children will first connect with the sense of wonder and love of life that he exhibited throughout his life. The illustrations are very fun and whimsical and fit really well with the subject. The airplanes are very fun and I loved seeing the subject in all kinds of different scenarios through his travels around the world. His story is perhaps lesser known in terms of biographies for children, so I loved seeing his story included in this series. The cover is very cute, as all the books in this series are, and I loved the little details that give hints at what's inside. The color pallettes for the illustrations are erally nice and remind me of The Little Prince itself - which is a lovely touch and homage to de Saint-Exupery. The end of the book has a timeline and pictures of the real life Antoine de Saint-Exupery that provide more context into his life. I would recommend this title for any classroom, library, or home library, especially for children who enjoy true stories and planes, pilots, writers, etc. Thanks again!
Darling illustrations accompanied by simple text relates the story of a boy who dared to dream big, Antoine de Saint-Exupery. The story tells the background of his book, “The Little Prince,” and how it echoes themes from his own life. A great read for children of all ages!

Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this title before it is available for publication.
My 6 yr old daughter absolutely loves these "Little People, Big Dreams" books so we jumped at the chance to preview one before it actually comes out. And this one did not disappoint. From the way the story is told to the beautiful illustrations, this book was wonderful.
Truthfully, neither one of us had heard of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry before reading this book. But that is the point of these books! As with the others in the series, this book explained his early childhood and how he became famous for, well, what he became famous for! He was a pilot and author, but lost his life in WWII. My daughter absolutely loves the photographs and biography at the end.
I always highly recommend these books to anyone that is looking for a non-fiction book that reads like fiction.
Another beautiful book from Little People, Big Dreams series! This one is simply dreamy (the illustrations are gorgeous and styled to match de Saint-Exupery's illutrations in "The Little Prince").
I am not ashamed to admit I knew very little about the French author and once again I learnt, in a matter of minutes, so many facts about his life. These books are pretty, educational and easy to read and will be the perfect addition for a young child's library.
I love everything about the Little People, Big Dreams books! They are the perfect addition for any youngster.
This was a simple and sweet children's picture book about the author of The Little Prince. As a fan of both The Little Prince and Wind, Sand, and Stars, this had a chance of either being perfect for me or a great disappointment.
This did not disappoint! The artwork was lovely - somewhat reminiscent of the artwork from The Little Prince but in a style of its own. And I loved the details, like the child Antoine de Saint Exupery constantly wearing an aviator's cap. The story follows his full life and the final page gave me literal chills with how touching it was. Excellent for any fan of Antoine de Saint Exupery who wants to pass that love onto any child.
de Saint-Exupéry is more well-known in some places; usually if The Little Prince is popular somewhere, d S-E is appreciated there.
I picked this up because I like The Little Prince and grew up with much appreciation for the author, and I wanted to share this experience with my child.
An equally cute and inspiring book about the author who created The Little Prince.
I buy so many of these books for my nieces and nephews and I loved this edition. I'll for sure be gifting this one to them as well. The facts are always so interesting and I learn more about these individuals every time I read these books. Also, the illustrations are so cute. I knew little about Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, so I was curious to learn more!
Another HIT from Little People Big Dreams! Illustrations are beautiful and the story is detailed enough to keep me super interested.
I must admit, I was not familiar with Antoine de Saint-Exupery prior to reading this story. Well, I was familiar with a book he wrote, but not with his name or his story.
I love that this book teaches that even little kids can dream big, because your dreams can come true! Antoine wrote a book that became incredibly well known around the world.
This is a fun children's book discussing the story of the pilot, Antoine De Saint-Exupery. The illustrations are very cute and eye-catching. I think children will absolutely enjoy this book and learn quite a bit about his life. I was not familiar with him and enjoyed learning about him.
This is part of a series of biographies, Little People, Big Dreams written by this author that are well researched and engaging. I am consistently impressed with this series, I actively look forward to new additions and so far I haven't been disappointed by any of the ones I have read. I love that the series profiles very well known people as well as other notable people who people might not be as familiar with.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
I absolutely adore the Little People, Big Dreams series, and the book about Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is no exception.
Well written and with beautiful illustrations, the story caters to children and adults alike and makes for a wonderful and informative read.
This is a real adventure filled children’s book detailing the life of the author of The Little Prince.
However there is much more to Antoine de Saint-Exupéry than this simple fact. From a little romantic boy to the brave pilot defending his country.
With a mix of easy to follow text and illustrations that reflect his love of flight and realising his dreams.
As I shared the story with my grandchildren we were all finding out about a special person. A poor pupil in school he was unable to follow a formal career path but having joined the army his ambitions were fulfilled. He learned to fly and once in the clouds he could translate his experiences and imagination onto paper.
I was surprised to learn that he was already an author before he penned the wonderful The Little Prince.
“Let your dreams devour your life
not your life devour your dreams”.
He lived out this, throughout his life, and his story is truly inspiring for children, to reach for the stars!
I love these biographies. I am not a huge fan of Antoine de Saint-Exupery but I thoroughly enjoyed this biography!
It is a fantastic way to get kids interested in biographies.
I would love to add it to my library.
Thank you to Net Galley and Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books for the eARC!
My son and I always enjoy reading a book together from this series. We didn't know anything about Antoine before starting this book and enjoyed learning about his life. As always with this series the text and illustrations were great.
Sanchez Vergara does it again! These books are always a favorite for my three young boys, and this was no exception. I am a longtime fan of The Little Prince, so I enjoyed more backstory on the author's life. My favorite line, though, was when Sanchez Vergara defined "romanticism" as waking up "excited to find the magic in every day." What a lovely way to summarize a philosophical and artistic movement!
Really great story about the author of The Little Prince!
I didn't make the connection until halfway through the book, but it was cool to learn about the life of the author who wrote a well-loved children's book. Now I want to go find his other books as well!
Great illustrations, the information was easy to digest for little kids. The timeline with more information at the back of the book was a great addition.
This is a short read and would make a great introduction into reading biographies.
I love the books in this series and always find something new in them.
This was a book that focused on a children's author who wrote The Little Prince.
I knew about his books, but nothing really about the man himself so this was a great one for me.
I didn't realise that he had done quite so much and he had a fairly varied life too.
A great way to introduce his books to a younger generation.
Lovely images and another great addition to the series - 5 stars from me for this one
I'm an older adult who has loved the story of The Little Prince since I was a young child. This is such a wonderful little biography about a little boy with a big imagination who grew up to be a hero. It's especially heartbreaking thinking of the story of The Little Prince when its author never made it back from the war.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
Excellent biography with lots of information I never knew. Well written, well illustrated, and fascinating. Sometimes I read these brief books and I learn how much I don't know. So, lots of good information in a little package about people I should know more about. And now I do.
This another excellent children’s biography in the Little People Big Dreams series. As an adult I learned new facts about this great hero and author. Highly recommended!
Another lovely book in the Little People, BIG DREAMS series. I loved learning more about Antoine de Saint-Exupery, and his early life. The illustrations are adorable and the author does a fantastic job of making young Antoine relatable.
Thanks to NetGalley, Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara, and Quarto Publishing for the chance to read and review. My opinions are my own.
A well-written, well-illustrated short biography of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, perfect for young readers and young dreamers alike.
Fantastic work about the well-known French children’s author. This book starts magically with a beautiful blue sky, puffy white clouds and a man in an airplane. The gentle tone of the book allows readers to follow Saint-Ex’s life through an idyllic childhood to first adventures in flying and finally to his career in the French armed forces. Beautiful drawings and well written.
