This book helps make kitchen gardening accessible to everyone, regardless of space or experience. This holds true whether you have a large backyard or just a small balcony, Van Tassel offers creative solutions and tips to help you succeed.

The book also delves into the benefits of kitchen gardening beyond just growing food. Van Tassel highlights how gardening can be a therapeutic and fulfilling activity, helping us reconnect with nature and find peace in our busy lives.

The section on preserving and preparing the harvest is extremely useful to me since I have moved out to the bush. She offers delicious recipes and preservation techniques to make the most of your garden's bounty.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to grow some of their own food.

From page 20 onwards, the parts about gardening, harvesting and the specialised tips on seasonality were useful.
Well-designed and informative.

There are not many things more delightful than reading a gardening book on a cold winter day here in Minnesota. This lovely book is a great overall primer for new gardeners and still had some valuable information for old timers. From planning your garden to tending it, from harvesting to preserving the food it covers that gamut!

It's beautifully formatted and I love that she includes information on how to include children in the process - passing gardening on to future generations!

Kitchen Garden Living is an inspiring and delightful book. It is a comprehensive guide to creating, tending, and enjoying a kitchen garden, and it beautifully combines practical advice with a passion for sustainable living.

The book is organized into several sections, each focusing on different aspects of kitchen gardening. From planning and designing your garden to growing, tending, and harvesting your crops, Van Tassel covers it all with clear, step-by-step instructions. What I particularly loved was the emphasis on living and eating seasonally, which not only promotes healthier eating habits but also helps reduce our environmental footprint.

Van Tassel's writing is both informative and engaging. She shares her personal experiences and insights, making the book feel like a friendly conversation with a knowledgeable mentor. The inclusion of beautiful photographs and illustrations adds to the charm, providing visual inspiration for readers.

One of the standout features of the book is its focus on making kitchen gardening accessible to everyone, regardless of space or experience. Whether you have a large backyard or just a small balcony, Van Tassel offers creative solutions and tips to help you succeed. She also includes ideas for involving family members, especially children, in the gardening process, which is a wonderful way to foster a love for nature and healthy eating from a young age.

The book also delves into the benefits of kitchen gardening beyond just growing food. Van Tassel highlights how gardening can be a therapeutic and fulfilling activity, helping us reconnect with nature and find peace in our busy lives. The section on preserving and preparing the harvest is particularly useful, offering delicious recipes and preservation techniques to make the most of your garden's bounty.

This book was cute but very much feeds into the trope of "white wealthy woman shows you how to grow everything you need in your huge backyard." I had high hopes this might be different but it wasn't. I felt fake reading the book because the truth is that many people don't have the money or space to grow a huge, self-sustaining garden. The amount of people who can acitvely apply most of the ideas in this book is pretty low.

This is a really good beginner guide. It makes you think about what is already in your environment and how best to use it. I like the simplicity and how it doesn't bog us down with names of all these new things you should buy, literally anyone can start gardening after reading this and feel completely ready. I especially loved the arts and crafts section and will be implementing that in my personal life. Loved the inclusion of in ground gardening throughout because let's be honest that's how most of us start as that's what we've seen growing up. It focused less on aesthetics and met you where you are.

What a sweet book that I would love to give and receive during this holiday season. From the beginning to the end of a garden, this book in great detail explains the ins and outs of how to build both a garden and a community - I loved it. I loved reading about the ideal number of plants per person which is the first time I had seen anything like that. I appreciated using the cards analogy as to how to build your garden and where to begin. I have created two gardens and will be creating another one soon and I loved going back to the beginning with this book and thinking about how to plan out my next garden.

The book takes you step by step, from planning and planting to harvesting and even preserving your homegrown goodness. It’s packed with helpful tips, creative projects, and gorgeous ideas to make your garden a reflection of your personal style. I especially loved the focus on living seasonally—it’s such a great reminder to slow down and savor what’s in season.

Beyond gardening, this book shows how to turn your garden into a way of life—getting your family involved, connecting with nature, and even using your harvest to host gatherings. It’s part guide, part inspiration, and completely motivating.

Kitchen Garden Living is an in-depth guide to propagating various things that can be regularly grown/harvested throughout the year. I do think that the images, while beautiful, would remain simply aspirational to many people who don't have that kind of space to dedicate to solely gardening, however. It may have been helpful to see some stuff done on a smaller scale. The information was all very helpful, however.

Thanks to Quarto Publishing Group – Cool Springs Press and NetGalley for an eARC of this book for an honest review.
