I loved this book and couldn't put it down. I just wish the ending had been a little simpler. Well written and an amazing story. 4.5 stars.

Well, the hashtag marketing campaign certainly did its job!
Unfortunately for me that meant that instead of just going with the flow and enjoying the book, I spent the whole time rushing to finish it determined to figure out what "that ending" was going to be. Rather smugly I pretty much nailed it, but then I've read a lot of new age material in my time… Feeling compelled to over-think it, I ended up being really irritated. If I was shelving a copy where would it go (once it had come off the bestsellers of course) – Paranormal? Crime? It’s neither one nor the other. More like a cross genre domestic noir with a supernatural LSD twist. For me it seemed overly ridiculous.
If I was awarding stars as a rating of my own enjoyment I would give it 1-2, however I've awarded it 4 stars on NetGalley as I have no doubt that this book will be a massive, much-lauded best-seller and it will be interesting to see what other people think of the denouement.
No doubt "that ending" will be a huge discussion point for years to come. Especially once the blockbuster film is released...

Louise falls for David but realises too late that he is her boss and married. She becomes friends with Adele who is David's wife. What a mess! Louise has to juggle her blossoming relationship with David and friendship with Adele. Before she knows it she's in too deep, things begin to unravel and Louise is unsure who she can trust.
The ending will leave you gobsmacked.

A captivating read with a fascinating idea. Does this "2nd door " experience and concept mentioned by the writer ever exists in our world? I was totally drawn into the story from beginning to end but was completely astounded with the conclusion. Never would have guessed the ending at all! A harmless fling between married doctor David and Louise, rapidly escalates into an eerie, dark world of psychological and mystical fantasies. The plot is described through the eyes of Louise and Adele (David's wife).

Read it to feel the connection…….

I found this a strange book to review. I can't say I didn't enjoy it although the characters could have been fleshed out a bit more, especially David. You didn't really get a sense of who he was. Having said that, the book was an enjoyable read until the end which was just ridiculous. I felt as though the author had reached the requisite number of chapters and had to find a way of finishing off the book quickly. However, it wouldn't put me off reading another of Sarah pinborouh's books.

Despite only being published on Thursday, this book has been trending for a while with the hashtag #WTFthatending. I’ve just read that ending, and all I can say is that is the perfect hashtag!

Sarah Pinborough is a journalist and accomplished novelist. I’ve previously reviewed The Death House, The Language of the Dying and owe her a review for 13 Minutes, which I listened to on Audible just before Christmas. These books all have a hint of… well not supernatural, but out of the ordinary I guess. Behind Her Eyes is no different.

A psychological thriller, the story follows the increasingly complicated relationship that Louise has with her boss, David, and his wife Adele. But things are rarely as they seem, and as we watch Louise get drawn deeper and deeper into a two-pronged relationship, we uncover more and more about David and Adele’s past. The story is told through the alternating eyes of Louise and Adele. We get to see what they’re seeing, and also what they’re thinking. Not all of it though.

Behind Her Eyes is everything a psychological thriller should be. Taut, twisted, and with an ending that’s like a blow to the head with a bat. Simply stunning!

My prediction: This book is going to be huge in 2017!

A lot of readers are going to feel let down by this book. I'll try to explain without giving away any spoilers, but I will be talking about things revealed in the first few chapters.

Firstly, the book gives up too much too soon. It's about a beautiful, upper middle class couple - David and Adele - who on the outside appear to have the perfect marriage. Louise works for David, though her attraction to him, and her secret friendship with his wife, brings her closer and closer to the skeletons in their closet. The blurb itself screams "THINGS ARE NOT AS THEY APPEAR" and Louise is eventually going to find out just how crazy things really are. But we find out way before she does.

A couple of chapters in, the author reveals that Adele is not all she first seems and is an expert at sneaky manipulation. The possibility that David is controlling and Adele may be the victim of domestic violence is shot down almost instantly and Pinborough (sort of) shows her hand. For the most part, there's very little mystery. Through Adele and Louise's alternating points of view, we know that Adele is mentally ill and Louise is incredibly naive.

Comparisons to Gone Girl are pretty much guaranteed, though undeserved. What would Gone Girl have been if Amy Dunne had given up all her secrets in the first couple of chapters? Far less impressive, I would guess.

Louise behaves very foolishly throughout, to the point where she was kind of irritating. The plot pretty much relies on her idiocy. How can she be so stupid? Not only does she make a number of ridiculous choices that put her and her son in danger for silly reasons, but she also jumps to a huge conclusion in the later chapters of the book. (view spoiler)

But most of all, I feel like many readers will feel let down by the twist at the end. I will be careful not to spoil anything, but let's just say that it is ludicrous. It's virtually impossible to guess because it's so outrageous and completely changes what you thought you were reading about. The marketing campaign for Behind Her Eyes used the hashtag #WTFThatEnding to promote the book, and WTF, indeed. Though I prefer my WTFs to be a little more convincing.

Louise is a divorced single mum working as a receptionist at a psychiatrist's practice. She's found it hard being a singleton again so on a rare night out it was a pleasant surprise to really connect with a stranger in a bar. It doesn't go any further than a kiss but it was such a thrill to feel wanted again.

At work on Monday she is introduced to her new boss, David. The stranger from the bar. The married stranger from the bar. Accompanied by his slim and very beautiful wife Louise wonders why he was hitting on her.

When Louise bumps into Adele while she is dropping off her son at his school she feels sorry for her and agrees to go for a coffee. New in town and in need of a friend Adele seems very sweet and is a devoted wife to David.

Louise is torn between her feelings for David and the picture that Adele is starting to paint of him - a controlling man who likely married her for her money. Drawn further into the disturbing relationship between the couple Louise soon begins to realise the true extent of the secrets between these two and that she has put herself in real danger by continuing a relationship with each of them.

Sarah Pinborough is a master at this type of suspenseful drama - check out her 2015 novel The Death House - and although I was expecting the mother of all twists I truly never saw that ending coming! #WTFthatending I had to read the last couple of chapters twice just to make sure it had really happened! There has been a lot of hype surrounding this book but it is truly deserved, a fantastic thriller that makes your skin crawl just thinking about it.

Louise, is a single mum, who has a flirtation with David who turns out to be married and also her new boss. David is married to Adele, beautiful and manipulative. She soon befriends Louise and sets about changing her to fit in with Adele.

They are soon drawn into a series of events that will change everything for everyone. This is one book that much never have the ending given away as it's Mind blowing.

This book drew me straight in, clutched me by the heart and left me reeling in amazement. The story flowed from the past to the present and through Adele and Louise's eyes. I still have goosebumps now

I would like to thank netgalley and harpercollins for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.
This was a good read, enjoyable from the start but did lose my attention slightly when it went to the door in the dream ( you'll know what I mean when you read it) but the ending brings you right back in and think how did I miss that!!
I am finding this a hard book to review as the ending is soooooo good I daren't give anything away. Buy I'll try!!
David and Adele have just moved to the area and seem like the perfect couple to anyone on the outside but Louise, David's new secretary knows differently due to nearly having a one night stand with him a week earlier, here the story develops into Louise's relationship with David and Louise's relationship with Adele who she accidentally bumped into and have become friends but Adele doesn't want David to find out so swears Louise to secrecy. This is the start of your journey in this book as you have sympathy for one character whilst hating the other for that to totally change a chapter or two later. All the main characters are well developed and likeable making this an easy read. This was at times a chilling but gripping read which does make it a great psychological thriller that I thoroughly enjoyed with an ending like nothing I've read before.

An amazing storyline that keeps you gripped all the way through . And just when you think you can't be shocked anymore you get an extreme wtf just happened moment at the end

What a brilliant book at the start I was confused with what was going on so I had to reread the first couple of chapters again so get it clear in my head but at the end everything clicked into place. I'm normally not one for supernatural in books I tend to avoid them but this a very clever well thought out story and it was brilliant.

Single Mum Louise meets David in a bar and then instantly hit it off. After the sparks fly and lead to a lingering kiss, David confesses he is married and walks out of Louise’s life.

A few days later he unknowingly walks back into her life, in the shape of her new boss.

When Louise knocks a lady off her feet she is surprised to find that it is David’s wife, Adele. To make amends they head for coffee where they strike up quite a bond.

Finding herself caught up in some serious marital issues, Louise is unsure who she can trust.

There are secrets here that go deeper than anyone could imagine. Will Louise be better off leaving them buried?

Firstly, I would like to say that this will most definitely not be my last book by Pinborough.

Secondly, this review is not going to be very detailed at all. There is no way I can do this book justice without presenting spoilers, and that is something I wouldn’t do. You’re going to have to read it and let the book speak for itself, but I will give it a brief run down.

Alternating chapters are used to tell this story from the points of view of Adele and Louise. Accounts from the past are also scattered in amongst the main timeframe to help the reader build a clearer picture of the characters. The three main protagonists were intriguing, and at one time or another I felt myself judging, suspecting and disliking them all.

The writing itself is extremely well done. After a slightly slow start I was hooked, and often to be found wandering around the house doing things one handed so I could read my Kindle at all times.

This story is dark, disturbing and dramatic, if somewhat unbelievable. If you are often sceptical, like me, read this book with a large pinch of salt…but make sure you read it!

David and Adele seem like the perfect couple from the outside - he's a successful psychiatrist, she's a gorgeous stay-at-home wife - but how much can you really know about somebodies marriage?
When David becomes Louise's new boss, she gets closer to both of them and begins to question the perfectness of their marriage. As time goes on and stories from the past reveal themselves, Louise begins to realise that something about this marriage is very very wrong.

I liked this book. It kept me guessing throughout and I was gripped and intrigued in all three of the main characters lives. It's fairly safe to assume that psychological thrillers such as these have twists and turns along the way, but this one had an ending that blew me away and I couldn't have in a million years have predicted or expected what was going to happen.

For those who have read this book (and this isn't a spoiler) - I kind of lost interest with the dream/second door aspect, but upon the big reveal of the ending felt it fit the story very well. I really liked the way the story was written and I enjoyed seeing each woman's point of view - it helped build both back story and depth to the characters.

Overall, I highly enjoyed this book and sped through it in two sittings. I would highly highly recommend reading this book if you're interested in twisty messed-up psychological thrillers. I promise you - you'll be thinking about this one for days after you finish it.

Imagine this: You’re a single mom in a bar and meet this guy. You have a great evening with him and exchange a kiss. You haven’t had a night like that in a long time. Then on Monday morning you arrive to work and meet your new boss who is the man from the bar, and worse yet he is married!
This is just the beginning of Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough. If you think this will be your typical love triangle thriller then you are in for a surprise as it is anything but that!
Behind Her Eyes has two narrators, Louise and Adele; Louise is the mistress and Adele is the wife. The book also contains flashbacks. Behind Her Eyes is yet again another book where you can’t say much without spoilers and you don’t want that with this book!
Behind Her Eyes is a good suspense/thriller, but for me I wasn’t as enthralled as I have been with other thrillers. There was nothing wrong with Sarah Pinborough’s writing which was fabulous. She was very detailed and meticulous with what she wrote. She gives hints to the big twists throughout the novel, and you just have to look. Knowing the ending now, I can see the red herrings throughout.

As I was reading I became worried that the book would not live up to my expectations because of the marketing behind it. The marketing includes a #wtfthatending hashtag. Behind Her Eyes really got going for me towards the end of the book, the last 40 pages. That ending really is a WTF moment.

After completing the book, I had to process what I read. I did figure out what was going to happen a few pages before the big reveal began, but Sarah Pinborough was not finished with me! She took a twist and shocks you by giving you another! The only warning I can give you is to prepare yourself to suspend your sense of belief. That seems to be the way to not be disappointed with Behind Her Eyes.

Behind Her Eyes is recommended. Go ahead and get a copy and prepare yourself for that #wtfthatending moment!

I received an e-arc from NetGalley and physical arc from Flatiron Books via a Facebook giveaway.

OMG talk about some tangled relationships. This book was one of the best psychological thrillers I have read in a while. The characters all have issues and Adele is particularly twisted.

Sarah Pinborough has written a well developed, well thought out plot with a few twists and a mind blowing finish.

There is Adele married to Dr. Martin who is trying to save her marriage but a lot lies under the surface of this beautiful woman.

Dr. Martin is extremely unhappy, drinks too much and is stuck in a situation he can't get out of and he does want to get out of it.

Louise is a single Mom and rarely goes out but the one time she does starts a nightmare with severe consequences.

Anyone who likes thrillers with warped relationships and a shocking ending needs to read Behind Her Eyes. It is truly an exceptional read.

Oh my! Oh yes, this was a fabulous read. This book has #WTFthatending trending on twitter and I can see why. When the book starts, we are seeing the start of an unhappy love triangle. Louise, unhappy and lonely has a one night stand with a man called David who she met on a night out. So imagine her surprise when she finds out that David is actually her new boss. To complicate things even further, she finds herself striking up a new friendship with.David's wife, the fragile Adele. It's a complicated mess, as each of the relationships are kept secret. The characters are very 3 dimensional and believable and on a purely thriller level, it really works. But there is something amiss about Adele that Louise can't quite work and and as a reader. we can't quite put our finger on and it's this that creates THAT ending. Did I guess? Somewhat. Did I guess the ending? Not at all and it's clever, clever, clever. Read it. You won't regret it.

This was my first book by Sarah Pinborough but I don't think it'll be my last. I can be a bit hit or miss with psychological thrillers but this one had me hooked from the very first page until the very end.

It's not a fast paced read (and there's not a huge amount of action) but it's an intriguing and twisty story with a main character I actually kind of liked, something which is too rare at the moment in this type of book.

Unfortunately this is one of those books that's really difficult to say much about without giving away spoilers so I'm going to try to tread carefully. At it's core it's the story of the toxic and disturbing relationship that David and Adele seem to be trapped in and that they draw poor single mum Louise into. It's clear from the very beginning that there's something very wrong between them but it's only over the course of the book, and mostly through Louise, that we figure out why.

The story is told in alternating chapters from the point of view of Louise and Adele, both of which I found to have very distinctive and engaging voices. Louise was, for me, the more likeable of the two, a single working mum, a bit lonely, kind and exhausted as a result of trying to juggle everything and deal with night terrors but there was something fascinating about Adele too. One moment she would seem fragile and the next make a comment that would give you chills and suggested something dark in her past.

It was almost impossible to figure out which way was up in their relationship, there are so many secrets and lies you just can't be sure who's to blame and why. It definitely keeps you guessing and there is enough tension and twists and turns that you will have to read to the end.

There was one element of the plot that I wasn't so sure about. Unfortunately it's a major spoiler so I can't say anything but I just didn't find it believable and it put a little bit of a dampener on what was a well written and atmospheric thriller.

On the #WTFthatending I can say that while I got close to guessing it, it still caught me by surprise.

Overall, it's definitely a book I'd recommend.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for providing me with an ARC. As always all view are my own.
