There is quite a bit of information about IBS, its history, why it occurs, foods that are better and worse, specifications on which foods to eat/avoid and in what quantities, meal plans for each section with recipes and case studies shared. There is a recipe for pizza that the dough uses tapioca flour. A how to test for tolerance of foods section is included. Seasoning ideas, are included along with basics and more exotic recipes. How to travel and go out and deal with situations is mentioned. Desserts and baked goods recipes as well as sides and mains are included. There are exercises for each week of the program along with what to include in your diary. The index is well done and helpful. It has information that should be helpful to someone with IBS and a specific plan to deal with it that seems to make sense. It talks about alcohol and how much and caffeinated beverages, soda and other topics that would be of interest. The photos are pretty.
I have to say that the reason this book appealed to me to read for review is that a relative of mine was recently diagnosed with IBS and I was curious. I have heard her talking about meals that were basics in her repertoire that included many ingredients she has had to give up, find substitutes for or deal without. She has also found that her gastro-intestinal system is much happier as a result of the changes in her diet. I believe this book would be helpful to someone recently diagnosed with IBS and thus recommend it for that reason.
Thank you to NetGalley and Fair Winds Press for the copy of this cookbook to review – This is my honest opinion.
4-5 Stars
I don’t have IBS, but I know many who do. It seems to be becoming more and more prevalent. This book offered an approachable and comprehensive understanding of what FODMAPs are. It also offered a wealth of information about IBS. The plan for eliminating and then reintroducing foods is well-structured and positive in focus (focus on being symptom free). The recipes were simple and straight forward, but I think that’s the point with this way of eating. Finding what works for you and your body and what doesn’t is done best with simpler recipes. I hope those with IBS to find this a helpful and informative book. It certainly appeared so to me.
I have not been diagnosed with IBS but I do have a sensitive stomach and diverticulitis. Whenever I eat bread or a high proportion of red meat, or if I drink milk or wine, I suffer with pain and bloating within a few hours.
Since I had been thinking about trying a Low FODMAP diet to see if it makes a difference, I think this book is just what I need to guide me through the diet.
A very informative book with what appear to be relatively straight forward elimination plans with accompanying recipes to follow.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a preview copy.
As someone who suffers with IBS, I'm new to the idea of Low-FODMAP meals. This book is fantastic, it's given me some great tips and meals to consider to help ease my symptoms. Highly recommend
For those suffering from IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), this will be a perfect book to step you through an easy 6-week plan to clear IBS. After week 3 you should see a difference. The Low-FODMAP Diet with recipes and a list of trigger foods are something I didn’t know as well as so much other information in this book. Highly recommend this book for anyone with Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

A really fabulous, informative book that helps the user figure out which foods cause gut discomfort. I really like how the author included recipes and food plans as well as substitutions for specific foods. As a nutrition coach, I am always learning about food and its effects on the human body. No two humans are the same which can make nutrition challenging. This book is a great addition to my nutrition education arsenal.
Thank you to Netgalley, Suzanne Perazzini, and Fair Winds Press for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
For anyone who has ever had any IBS, Fructose or problems with digestion due to food intolerances, this is the book for you. This book explains everything you would want or need to know, along with recipes, the reintroduction phase of incorporating foods, case studies and so much more. It is a 6-week plan and cookbook and gets into the nitty gritty of how to handle many problems, even the embarrassing ones.
For someone who is diagnosed with food intolerances, just the word "Intolerance" can put you into a real spin, what to eat, how to approach restaurants and find something you can eat without having to run to the toilet because there is an ingredient in it that sets you off, how to gain the confidence to actually approach wait staff and explain what you can't have etc. This is a must read book and I couldn't recommend it more highly, it is a step by step program of recipes and meal plans with all the extras included.
Thanks to Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Fair Winds Press for the opportunity to read and review, definitely a must have book for IBS sufferers. It is written by Suzanne Perazzini who is a nutritional therapist specializing in irritable bowel syndrome and the low Fodmap diet (certified by the Monash University on the low Fodmap diet), qualified teacher, award-winning author and fulltime low Fodmap diet coach, so you can be rest assured you have a book here written by a very qualified person, a book that I will certainly be referring to well into my future.
I have suffered from IBS symptoms for 30+ years, but it was only recently that my condition was correctly diagnosed and that was by going on a low FODMAP diet. The FODMAP elimination diet is extremely difficult and daunting to stick to, particularly if like me, you like to go out to eat a lot. However, for success, you have to stick to this diet 100% for the 6 week duration. Ideally, you should also get the support of a Dietician. This book offers a good insight into IBS with lots of information about what FODMAPs are, but in an easy to understand format. The recipes are mainly original and workable. It is extremely difficult to be a vegetarian or vegan whilst following this diet, due to the high levels of FODMAPs in the staples for these diets and so unfortunately, in line with similar books, the recipes featured are largely aimed towards meat and dairy eaters. Overall, a great book though.
Many thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this ARC for which I have given my voluntary and unbiased review.
Such great recipes that I really enjoyed and many more that I can't wait to give a go! There is also a lot of information and guides that I found incredibly helpful.
The Low-FODMAP 6-Week Plan and Cookbook is as it says in the title, a six week plan and cookbook for those who suffer from IBS.
Part one of the book begins with an introduction to IBS and explains the foods and life situations that may trigger IBS symptoms. It provides a number of ideas on how to deal with an IBS episode and provides information on other health problems that accompanies IBS, such as depression and diverticulosis.
The next two chapters in part one go into detail of what the FODMAP acronym stands for, which foods contain them and a plan for success. It provides a short history on the Low-FODMAP and then gives the two main structures of the diet - elimination and reintroduction. The plan gives details of how often your meals should be spaced out, along with a general overview of certain foods, how to read labels as some processed foods contain trigger ingredients and strategies for sticking to the diet.
Part two contains six weeks of meal plans and recipes, with weeks 1-3 being introduction to the diet and elimination of certain trigger foods. Each week provides recipes of breakfasts, snacks, sweet treats and dinners, which can be moved from week to week for variety.
Week 4 then begins the introduction of certain foods in small doses to see what effects it has, and again provides a meal plan. Weeks 5 and 6 carry the diet on with more meal plans and recipes.
At the end of each chapter is a lifestyle exercise and case study from people who have followed the diet.
The recipes look varied and interesting and have full instructions, some photography for recipes and give both imperial and metric measurements. Recipes are generally for four people, so I was surprised to see that the case study for families was included near the end of the book.
I received this book from netgalley in return for a honest review.
Yummy recipes great for anyone one to try. Whatever you want from breakfast to dinner you'll find a wonderful recipe inside. Great for those wanting a Low-FODMAP diet plan and ideas, but recipes are great no matter what.
I recently decided to do something about the consistent stomach discomfort I'd been feeling - this book helped immensely for a newbie, and the recipes were actually quite good. (The risotto! Yummy!)
Interesting book. May help people with health issues. For me it’s an inspiration for how to improve my healt and eating habits, because the recepies in the book are not exactly the right thing for me, but you always need some inspiration when you are dealing with what you can and what you can’t eat.
My partner has severe IBS and as someone who cooks with onions and garlic salt in EVERYTHING (literally, garlic salt was my "secret ingredient" for almost all recipes), I really struggle to cook appetisingly for him. This cookbook was really clear and helpful, with a variety of recipes.
