Description
God is here to remake you in Her image. Literally.
Jennifer’s got problems—she’s an interdimensional drug mule, addict, and can’t stop destroying her own life. But her biggest problem? An eldritch flesh goddess called the Divine Flesh, who inhabits her body like a psychotically cheerful tapeworm. Jennifer and the Divine Flesh share one body, as they have since the day Jennifer was born. They’re constantly wrestling for control of the body and wrecking havoc on each others’ lives—and on the Divine Flesh’s romantic relationship with Jennifer’s ex-husband, Daryl.
When rural bigots murder Daryl and his friends, Jennifer and the Divine Flesh put their differences aside to hunt the killers down, but in the process, manage to finally separate…setting the Divine Flesh free, and giving Her infinite power.
Now the Divine Flesh remembers who She is. She’s free. She’s ready to assimilate everything and everyone…starting with Jennifer and Daryl, who’s returned to life. Jennifer and Daryl must defeat the Divine Flesh while hunting down the rural bigots of Rosetown, Idaho, uncovering a murderous small-town conspiracy, a serial killer, and a nest of festering corruption in the all-American town.

This book is an unhinged work of complete art.
The cover drew me in and the plot sounded intense. I was right. This author, Drew Huff, is incredibly talented and I'll be needing to read all of their work at this point. The world building added to this extreme horror book was so impressive. This was like the best rollercoaster ride at Banksy's Disneyland. GET THIS NOW. This might be one of the best books I've ever read?!
Thank you to Net Galley and Dark Matter Ink for allowing me to read this in advance! This review is my own opinion I am leaving voluntarily.
This book is a fever dream wrapped in cosmic horror, and I mean that in the best way possible. If you're looking for something that will shake you to your core and leave you questioning everything you thought you knew about love, then this is the book for you. It’s equal parts disturbing and beautiful—gruesome yet oddly mesmerizing.
The premise sounds almost too bizarre to be real, but that’s part of the allure. Jennifer, our main character, is not only battling her own inner demons, but she’s also sharing her body with a powerful, eldritch goddess known as Divine Flesh. And if that’s not enough, both Jennifer and Divine Flesh are in love with the same man—Daryl, Jennifer’s husband. The result is a maddening struggle for control that leads to shocking, often bloody consequences.
What makes this story so unique is its exploration of love—not the sweet, gentle kind, but something far darker and more complicated. There’s no idealized romance here. Instead, the book offers a warped, almost grotesque interpretation of love, one that can only be described as disturbingly beautiful. The characters are all flawed, often monstrous, yet there’s something magnetic about them. You can’t help but get pulled into their twisted world, even when you’re not sure if you should be cheering for them.
The writing is unapologetically weird and disorienting—expect moments of horror that will leave you with lingering images of grotesque and unsettling imagery. But somehow, it works. The ugliness, the dread, and the violence are all part of the story’s intricate tapestry, which keeps you hooked, even when you want to look away.
This book isn’t for the faint of heart, but if you’re into stories that defy expectations and push the boundaries of what horror can be, you’ll find something truly special here. It’s an unforgettable ride through a nightmarish landscape where nothing is as it seems—and where love is just as warped and terrifying as the creatures who live in this world.
I absolutely recommend it if you’re looking for a horror novel that goes beyond the traditional and ventures into the truly bizarre.
