Description
Dot invites Duck to a tea party, but from the moment Duck enters the house, the tea party descends into chaos; from licking sandwich fillings to spitting tea, Duck gets ruder…and ruder…and ruder. Just how will Dot react to such outrageous behavior?
Simple, funny, and ultimately touching, this book will appeal to any child who is learning what it is not to be rude and, more importantly, what it is to be a true friend.

I liked the story but I found it to be a bit basic, it teaches younger children about why they shouldn't be rude and how it can make others feel. The story was easy to follow but it could have done with a bit more text for me as sadly this is one I could only see being read maybe once or twice. Nice images though - 3.5 stars!
Funny book! I think littles may enjoy this story while learning manners. Duck is invited to a tea party and behaves very, very badly. Then he gets a taste of his own medicine and all ends well- with good manners! I loved the illustrations and am sure littles will enjoy the terrible antics in the story!
This really is a one note story, silly, but not hilarious.
And, I suppose, sometimes short and sweet is how you need to get your point across for the very young, which is what this looks as though it is intended for.
And because manners is not innate, and have to be taught, what better way to teach it, I suppose, than to go over the top.

Of course, the all time best books of this genre are What do you say dear and Goops and How to Be Them
But, this one, gets its point across in a humours way, so kids will probably laugh at it, and get the point too.
Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.
How Rude by Clare Hellen Welsh and Olivier Tallec is utterly adorable and a rather fun commentary on not thinking of those around you. Introducing Duck as he arrives at Dot's tea party, How Rude follows the pair as inconsiderate Duck proceeds to do just about everything to ruin the party without even trying. Though Dot does her best not to get mad, with each and every rude act from Duck she grows more and more frustrated and less and less able to keep her cool.
I deeply enjoyed reading this cute little book and could definitely see myself buying a copy for the young children I know. It's never too early to learn how to have good manners and by showing all the frustrating and mean things Duck does without even realizing it, the book introduces the idea that one can not realize they're causing problems until another person gets mad at them. And it's a good way to prompt young children to take some time to think about their actions and make efforts to be more considerate.
The illustrations are fun and adorable, brightly colored and tell the story well. I loved how Dot's face grew redder and redder as she got angry at poor oblivious Duck as he overstepped his bounds. The message of the book is an exceptional one and I look forward to kids learning it.

How Rude! is a bit of a silly little book that would be ideal for helping to remind little ones about appropriate behaviour and manners. We follow Dot as she becomes frustrated when Duck, a guest at her tea party, shows increasingly rude behaviour.
I'd hoped there might be a bit more sharp wit at play here, but instead it's just fun and silly. I'd imagine quite a few little ones will find several of the pages very amusing, and the manners message here is strong. Much more readable than the Do-Bee book I had as a kid ;) 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.
Thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - words & pictures for providing me with a DRC of this book.
Welsh's story of a tea party with two friends is a cute tale of what happens when friends (or guests) are rude and disrespectful to others and their property. Tallec's illustrations were cute and suit the story. I particularly enjoyed the duck. Reminds me of old comic strips. Overall, it was cute, but not a book that I would reread.
How Rude . . . by Clare Helen Welsh and illustrated by Olivier Tallec is a cheery, upbeat fable without the heavy morals. Dot has a friend, Duck over for a tea party. Duck is not polite, everything from throwing the door open into Dot’s face to eating all the food even after proclaiming it “ew”. After attempting to be on one’s best behavior Dot finally bests Duck at the rudeness game. They both realize they have hurt each other’s feelings and apologize. The illustrations are fun, colorful, and do a wonderful job conveying the story, whether its displaying Duck’s poor manors or the look of surprise on Dot’s face with each horrendous action. The story is simple and direct, easy enough for even the youngest among us to understand and at the same time light-hearted and funny.
I love this duck! How Rude offers a wonderful lesson on manners. When the duck arrives for a tea party he hasn’t the first clue as to how to behave! He barges right in, dropping his stuff at the door, and starts barking demands for food. His friend is completely dumbfounded! Will their friendship survive this tea party?!
Always fun to share these lovely lessons on manners with my preschoolers! I will be sharing this book tomorrow with my class, should make for a great discussion.
Thank you to Quattro Publishing Group and NetGalley for this fun e-book! My opinions are my own.

I have found the little book 'How Rude!' as a good tool to teach the little ones how important is to know how to behave around our friends. It's definitely a good first book for the children who are just learning how to read or even the ones who don't know yet but have someone in their lives to read it for them.
This book for young children, illustrated simply, but colorfully and effectively by Tallec, describes a tea party organized by Dot. She invites Duck, who has no social graces whatsoever. Why? I'm, going to duck that question....
He (or perhaps she!) knocks things over, tosses clothes on the floor, takes things without asking, drinks from the vase of flowers, and on an on, until suddenly, in a magical moment, duck gets it and realizes that misbehavior has been perpetrated! I see this book as a great opportunity to talk with young children about what went wrong on each page, and how it could have been avoided, or fixed if it couldn't have been prevented. I consider it a worthy and educational read for young children.
Great little book! Perfect for our grandkids - they'll laugh while they learn good manners.
The illustrations are amusing and attractive. The words are easy to read, so it is good for early readers as well as in the classroom. Recommended.
I had such a good time reading this story to my 3 year old nephew. Cute illustrations and a story a child can learn from.
Quarto Publishing Group and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of How Rude! I was under no obligation to review this book and my opinion is freely given.
Dot invites Duck to a tea party, but her guest is simply not very gracious. Rude and inconsiderate to Dot and to her home, how will she help Duck to see the error in his ways?
How Rude! is a very simple book about manners that young children will be able to understand. Getting angry over another's behavior is a natural response and I was glad to see that the author expressed that reaction. With whimsical and colorful drawings, the story is conveyed well with the illustrations. Young children will be able to understand the lesson they are being taught and parents will appreciate the short sentences that will allow their children to not lose interest. How Rude! is a book I would recommend to educators and to parents with young children.
Dot, a little girl, invites Duck over for tea. But Duck is a horrible guest with no manners at all. Dot gets more and more frustrated to the point she forgets her manners, and then apologies are necessary.
I like that this includes manners which are applicable just about any time. Some manners books seem to focus more on etiquette one must remember when visiting the Queen, but aren’t all that important if you’re just over at a friend’s house. Duck does things like dump his clothes on the floor, saying yuck instead of asking politely for some sugar, get crumbs all over the place, etc. Those are very relatable things for a little kid to learn. The illustrations are entertaining and overall this is a helpful and captivating way for kids to be introduced to manners through watching Duck do everything wrong.
I received an ARC of this title from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Such a sweet message on kindness and respect. I loved this one. The characters are very uniquely drawn.
How Rude! Words & Pictures by Clare Helen Welsh and Olivier Tallec
is just apparently a light book to present to a kid, because substantially contains a lot of important messages.
Let's confess it: it happened to us also that sometimes some children ate all the cake we baked when invited; we were happy and joyous because they appreciated our baking, but maybe they exxagerated; they also drunk like cows, running out all the possible beverages and leaving us surprised and sometimes shocked.
What to say and what to do in these embarassing situations is not simple.
This children's book is amazingly funny.
Duck has been invited by Dot at a tea party.
Duck will reveal his real nature as a horrible guest, eating and drinking massively, pretty soon; as if he would be in his own house, or, I guess, worsew
Poor Dot doesn't know what to do but will sort out the problem as you will read at the end of this funny story.
Enjoy it, and present this book to all children; they will learn that when they are guests it's important to be educated and that eating and drinking too much as it would have said our grannies it is not a sign of education.
I thank NetGalley and Quarto for this ebook.
It's a book about manners. Duck is the rude guest that Dot is hosting.
This would be a great story to use to show the do's and don't behavior in class or at home. It's a good discussion piece that are great for a classroom setting.
I'd recommend it as part of your book collectioIt's a book about manners. Duck is the rude guest that Dot is hosting.

I'd recommend it as part of your book collection on manners. n on manners.
Duck is transforming a tea party in a messy meeting because Duck is....rude. The illustrations are really cute, I liked the idea of look around us and care about others, even though the story is a bit too much in my opinion.
Thank you Netgalley for this book.
This book is a cute little story about
Manners with lovely illustrations that kids will love. A small child and a duck what’s not too like.
The story is simple and engaging. This book is very short, which works well with young readers. I know if I read this story to my two and a half year old son and really hammed it up, he would laugh at each "How rude!" Then he would say "Read again?" That is the best review a picture book can receive.
How Rude... by Clare Helen Welsh, Olivier Tallec is a book about basic manners. Told using a yellow duck and a small book, this book is a simple reminder of how manners play an important part in everyday life.
Simple things such as picking up after yourself when you enter someone's home, saying hello, and being a picky eater are all things we as adults know not to do, but sometimes children need a reminder. This book is a great way to get children to understand how simple actions can be perceived, without us adults having to constantly remind them.
This is a wonderful book for the preschool-first grade to read, possibly a guidance lesson as well.
This is only my 3rd book sent to my new Kindle. I must be doing something wrong because the formatting was a mess. The illustrations were adorable while the wording was simple and easy to read. Although, for children, I would have used a bolder font.
A great lesson learned. American children would easily understand "tea" but not the "biscuits". We call them cookies..
I found How Rude... by Clare Helen Welsh, is a Lovely sweet Book, that gave you all an important message of kindness and manners to young children.
It had me giggling throughout this book. I loved it and I know my nephew will.
This gem of a book is a must-have in every home, classroom and library. It highlights one of the almost forgotten arts in our culture... manners!
Dot prepares a lovely afternoon tea and invites her friend Duck to attend the event. Right from time that Duck puts his foot inside the front door (which is by the way a muddy foot ) the sweetness of the event sours.
Duck displays atrocious manners: he throws his scarf and hat on the floor and demands that Dot hang them up, he puts his soiled feet up on her beautifully decorated table, he chomps into every sandwich trying to find his favourite, and he chugs water from the flower vase to wash everything down, just to name a few. How rude indeed! Oh my!
The final straw is Duck's behaviour regarding Dot's lovely tea cake. It is at this point that she loses it and takes charge. Will she be able to reign this uncouth beastie in and change his ways?
This delightful book has taken a valuable life lesson... using our manners... and shows little ones the importance of being kind, polite and civil to those they encounter as they go through life. Somehow it seems in our modern day culture those fundamentals have been lost by many people. If we can teach our children that manners matter and should be implemented they will display much better behaviour and attitudes, thus making them amazing citizens of our world.
The illustrations are the icing on the cake for me. They are humorous, quirky and perfectly enrich the text visually. I highly, highly recommend this book.
What an utterly delicious little book! Dot and Duck’s teaparty is almost ruined by Duck’s rudeness.
The drawings are completely charming and there is not too many words to overwhelm very young readers. Makes a great present from grandparents to steer the ickle ones gently towards manners and respect for others.
This is a simple but great book, with a much needed message! Duck goes to his friend's house for tea but doesn't quite endear himself. There is much mess and rudeness and it all descends into chaos. Duck's friend gets so cross that he ends up being rude himself. Luckily, like with all good books, the friends realise their mistakes and make up.
I read this book with my six year old son, and it was amusing for me to see his reaction to some very familiar scenes - such as being presented with options that he rudely rejects! The book's simplicity and gentle characters made a great base for our discussion about rudeness, and being polite with others.
How...cute! The illustrations perfectly coincide with the charming story of Dot and Duck. Dot is trying so hard to have a lovely tea party but Duck is SO RUDE! In the end, they forgive each other and are friends again. I look forward to finding the print copy to add to our collection!
Dot has invited Duck over for a tea party. Duck is being very rude; criticizing the food, demanding other things he wants, and claiming the cake as all his own. Dot has enough and eats the cake all herself. Both end up apologizing for their rudeness and resuming their friendship.
This is a cute story that teaches a good lesson. Kids will enjoy this book and the fun illustrations.
I read this book with my 8-year old daughter. She thought it was funny because the duck was being bossy to the girl. I liked it because it had a good message. It's a great book to teach young children about manners!
This was a cute and engaging book about learning good manners. This book has a simple message that uses friendship, frustration and humor which I think is great for a preschool audience. The illustrations were beautifully done and did a great job of showing facial cues as well that showed how Dot was getting more and more frustrated when Duck was becoming more disrespectful with his behavior.
This was a very relatable situation for young kids and I liked that we were able to see Dot's frustration level increase as that is a very normal feeling when people around us are unaware. The problems were sorted out and there was a feeling of mutual respect and understanding at the end of the book which I thought wrapped up this story perfectly.
Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
What a great book for young readers to learn about rude behavior. I loved the colorful illustrations against the background of the pencil drawings. The book is an easy read for new readers. Just the right amount of silliness to keep the young reader engaged.
This is a very cute book about proper etiquette and manners between the two characters as shown on the cover. The yellow creature starts off to be the rude one with bad manners and it infuriates the little person in red. They both take turn to be rude to each other until they reconcile by apologizing to each other. At then end, they both behave well and spend their time in harmony. A simple story to follow showing little children how to be polite, be nice and be considerate.
Two friends interact at a tea party. One is hosting and one is a guest. One is rude and one gets mad. How will this resolve? A cute, fun story that is a great launching point to discuss manners and hurting our friends feelings with children aged 2-5.
Where are Duck’s manners? He is invited to a friends house and does nothing but rude things- licking sandwiches, spilling tea. Duck’s friend, Dot, does not know how to respond to his actions.
A funny tale that is important for young ones who are learning manners and how to be a friend.
Einfach bezaubernd und mit tollen Bildern! Nachdem sie unfreundlich waren, merken der Junge und die Ente wie viel schöner das miteinander sein kann wenn man nett zueinander ist.
Learning about being kind and not being rude is important as an early lesson and How Rude! by Clare Helen Welsh and Olivier Tallec is a book featuring this lesson. Duck is invited to visit Dot for a tea party. But Duck has not learned proper manners and continues to be rude during the visit. Actually, Duck does some really outrageous things during the visit which are very rude. This story is designed to teach kindness is a silly way. Even a little one can see Duck is not acting nice and not being a good friend. This story points out many things about being rude and what happens with good illustrations in a way children can understand and enjoy. This would be a good preschool book helping teach good matters and ways to properly treat friends.
