For those of us who are watching carbs and even for those of us who aren't this is an outstanding cookbook. After a few lengthy, but helpful introductory chapters, Carpender gets down to business. The chapters are divided similarly to most cookbooks, by type of ingredients/course. Here, though, the emphasis is on main dishes. I liked that because this seems to be a big sticking point in many cookbooks these days.
The recipes look tasty and easy to cook.
Helpfully there is nutrition info for every recipe plus icons at the top to let you know the recipes that fit if you have various allergies or dietary restrictions.
I do have one small quibble, I'm unhappy that so many of the recipes that don't need to be sweet have a bit of sweetener added. But that's my taste. If it's yours swell, I think often this can be left out.
This is an excellent, well laid out cookbook from appetizers to desserts and everything in between. Too many carbs make me feel unwell, and while I’m not following any specific diet, I will gladly include some of these in my meal planning from now on.
My only complaint, as others have stated.... no photos!

Easy to follow recipes that actually turn out as good as they look. I found myself utilizing this book more than once when planning menus for the week.

This book came out at a great time, with the keto diet becoming as popular and trendy as it is today. There are an ample amount of keto recipes in this book that are easy to follow. I've been curious about the keto diet but didn't know what kind of food to cook and look for, now that I have this one I'll be able to make all kinds of different meals to start this diet.

A solid, revamped low-carb offering for folks seeking variety in their under 50g of carbs a day diet.
Did I love this book? Unfortunately, no. I wanted to - being an avid keto (low carb, high fat) person. I could tell they wrote it at the 'forefront' of low-carb living, and perhaps that was the biggest turn off. I didn't feel anything fresh, or new, from this cookbook.
As well, no photos. Boo...
In the author's defense, I found the introduction and explanations thorough and full of personality. Having a conversation with your readers about using microwaves, and to cook using the top of the stove if you'd prefer (and not to send hate mail about it), rung true. In my former life, I wrote for About.com / The New York Times, and I'd get these kinds of conversational complaints, often.
Can I recommend this book? Definitely, if you're new to low-carb eating and don't have a cookbook dedicated to the art, yet. But for those of us eating low-carb as long as the author (23 years in their case), this is probably a pass.
If I were a librarian, I'd add this to my collection if I didn't already have the original.
I think this recipe book is just what I need in my life! There are so many recipes I’m looking forward to trying! I also love that they included some alcoholic beverages. I’ll be waiting to gift this book to my healthy friends!
I wasn't able to read it because I have to use a kindle to download my books so I couldn't open the acsm file... I have finally learned to not download books that cannot just be sent to my kindle. I wish I could have read it via hard copy but maybe I will find it in a book store eventually!
I have spent the last two years living a ketogenic lifestyle off and on. When I am off I still try to do low carb meals for the most part. What I love about "The New 500 Low-Carb Recipes" is that I could utilize a good majority of the recipes will doing my keto thing. I was impressed with the wide variety of food options available in the book. I especially was impressed with the extensive amount of salad recipes because salads can tend to get boring but are so good for you, so it is nice to be able to vary things when you can. I also really enjoyed the dessert section and saw several things I would love to eat. I think this would be a great book for someone who is new to a low carb lifestyle or who doesn't want to have several cookbooks because there are so many recipes in here I think that you could have this one cookbook and not get bored. I recommend "The New 500 Low-Carb Recipes" to anyone who partakes in a low carb lifestyle or would like to move into healthier eating habits.
This book is packed full of recipes! I have only tried a few, but just from those, I am excited to try out more! The recipes were easy to follow with ingredients that I had. As I am still in college and cooking only for myself, these recipes did not leave me with so much food that I had to eat, they made just the right amount of leftovers. I also really appreciate that each recipe has a servings yielded and has nutrition facts. This makes counting calories so convenient. (This is probably the feature that I first look for in cookbooks!)
The one thing I wish this book had more of is pictures. Just a person preference of being able to see what the end produce should look like once I make it.
Overall this is a great recipe book that is easy to follow and has recipes that are simple with easy to find ingredients.
I really enjoy how the beginning of the cookbook and how it goes over the ingredients you need to be familiar with as well as what you should use and avoid. I'm excited to try these recipes.
This has some new and different recipes that I’m looking forward to trying. Although more low-carb than keto, which I follow to combat my migraines, there are still plenty of options in here!
A lovely, brightly coloured and inviting cover is a tempting start for this book of 500 low carb recipes. There is a good introduction and then fourteen chapters. Chapter one is 'Ingredients you need to know about' which explains the main ingredients of a low carb diet and alternatives. The remaining thirteen chapters are all recipes ranging from 'Hors D'oeuvres, Snacks and Party Nibbles' all the way through to 'Cookies, Cakes and Other Sweets'. It is a vast array of recipes and all have icons for keto, gluten-free, grain-free and dairy-free where appropriate. Each recipe has a Yield section listing the number of servings as well as calories, fat, protein, carbs, dietary fibre and net carbs. I wish there were photos of the completed recipes as this would make it so much more attractive. Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for an ARC.
Being new to the low carb attempt, in our family we love our carbs, I was grateful to get a copy of this book. I have tried a few recipes so far and I was really surprised at how satisfying they were.
I am definitely looking forward to trying more with my family!

The author, Dana Carpenter, has written a very thorough book explaining the low-carb diet, ingredient usage, and nutritional analysis using Mastercook software. You will also find plenty of recipes that support the Low-Carb lifestyle. Some of the recipes include;

An excellent and useful guide that will help me adapt my father’s diet to help reduce carbs and help with his COPD symptoms. It's well set out and explained clearly, I just would have liked a few photo graphs for some of the main meals.
So many people start a restricted diet then fail to maintain because they do not how to fit the diet into their lifestyle. They limit themselves to bland diets that feel restrictive so "treat" themselves right back into their old habits. This book gives you so many different types of recipes with clear guidance on how to make low carb your new lifestyle. For everyone who wants to make the change and stick with it...this is the book for you.
My husband's doctor told him a low carb diet would benefit his health. My husband's idea of low carb is...eat no bread. When he read this book and saw the changes he could make that would let him live longer and better, he was impressed too. So, if you are the cook, consider letting everyone you cook for pick some recipes to try and see the difference it can make. With 500 choices, everyone will find something they like.
Great variety of recipes in this book. There has to be something for everyone. I can’t wait to try them out as part of my new low carb lifestyle.
This cookbook is amazing and by far one of the best cookbooks I've read! I really loved the that it has a whole section dedicated to eggs. My husband and daughter could live off of boring bland scrambled eggs, which drives me insane. With these recipes I can now make egg dishes that I can enjoy also.
My only disappointment is that there weren't any pictures. I enjoy having a picture to look at so I can judge if I've cooked a recipe correctly. Nonetheless, there are so many recipes that it does help make up for the lack of photos.
I've been wanting to try low carb recipes for awhile but just haven't started this book has helped with so many ideas of what to cook. Watching my carbs may be easier than I think with these great recipes.
This would be my favorite cookbook even if I wasn’t trying to watch carbs!
I love the recipes in this book. They contain only a few ingredients, many that are already kept at home.
It is easy to read. The beginning tells us why we should care about carbs and how not to be taken in by “low carb” labels. Then it is simply jam-packed with great recipes to try. The author suggests trying at least one new recipe per week but it is easy to have more variety with the vast array of recipes contained here.
It also shows keto, grain-free, gluten-free, and dairy-free symbols on every recipe so that you never have to guess if your family or friends are able to eat it.
Don’t wait one more day. Go get this recipe book now. It could save your life.

Especially the recipes with bread were the ones I was interested. This section did not disappoint. So many interesting and varied recipes for low carb bread, waffles and pancakes!
To be honest, the recipes that would normally contain a lot of carbs were the ones I was looking forward to, since they are hardest to alter. Making a salad, or broiling some chicken is easy, but low carb waffles that actually taste good that's like magic.
Lots of interesting recipes, easy to find dairy free or gluten free recipes thanks to pictographs. I might not have needed all of the salad recipes, but other people might find those helpful.
An excellent, well set out and beautifully illustrated cookbook. It offers exactly what it says on the cover. Everything looks amazing and there’s some good explanation about the effects of Low-Carbing on your health.

Just as advertised, this book offers new and delicious recipes for those like me who are on low-carb lifestyle plans. This helps you think of it as a lifestyle and not diet with the delicious recipes. I also loved the gorgeous pictures that make your mouth water and have you hurrying to find the ingredients. This is a must have addition to a low-carb kitchen.

Quite a comprehensive collection of low-carb recipes. The only negative comment I can make is that there were no photographs. Otherwise, all of the recipes looked delicious and full of flavor. There was a wide variety of recipes and certainly something to suit all tastes!

Since I am hypoglycemic, I am always looking for new low-carb recipes. The New 500 Low-Carb Recipes: 500 Updated Recipes for Doing Low-Carb Better and More Deliciously by Dana Carpender was just the book I was looking for. There were several recipes that I wanted to try immediately. Some of them include: Skillet Chicken Florentine, Lo-Carl Clam Chowder, Polynesian Pork, Country Sausage Skillet Supper, Teriyaki Steak, Green Bean Spaghetti, Skillet Stroganoff, Ellen's Noodleless Lasagne, Parmesan Shrimp, Cheese Grits, and Shrimp Alfredo. I tried to narrow it down to my favorite 5 recipes but I struggled narrowing down to just 10.
My favorite is "Joe". It is a one-dish skillet supper with ground chuck, frozen spinach, onions, garlic, and eggs.
I do not enjoy cooking but I do it. I prefer someone else to cook for me or to go out to eat. However, these recipes were easy enough for me to make and do not use a lot of ingredients. They also often use normal, every-day ingredients you would have in your house. I found that to be extremely helpful because I really do not like when I have to buy an ingredient that I would probably not use again.

Dana Carpender’s newly revised cookbook, The New 500 Low-Carb Recipes, is an excellent book for anyone who is concerned about the amount of carbs in their diet. The layout of the book is logical and well-conceived, the recipes are appealing and there is a wide variety. Furthermore, the recipes are well-written and easy to follow and there some introductory chapters that offer explanations about ingredients as well as general information about nutrition.
I would recommend this cookbook to anyone who is interested in low-carb cooking.

I have tried a few of the recipes so far and have found the recipes to be simple and they taste great! I love this cookbook!
A very basic cookbook with simple, easy to read instructions and ingredients - the layout of the recipes was the best part about the book. I was a little surprised to see a recipe about hotdogs and eggs (personally my kids wouldn't eat it) and the use of american processed cheese (Velveeta) in another recipe. Overall, there are a good amount of solid low-carb recipes that would appeal to just about anyone.
I have the first edition of Ms Carpender's Low Carb recipe book. I wondered how she'd top that - I use it constantly.
Well, glad to be able to say that this book of recipes is great, it has some oft he old tried and true recipes, but oh so many new ones! The variety of recipes and ideas are sure to please and the progressive layout is intelligent . I WISH THERE WERE PHOTOS of the finished products, at least one or two per section, that would have made this a five star book for me.
As it is, I will gladly add this book to my collection.

The New 500 Low-Carb Recipes is a handy reference for individuals looking to start or maintain a low carb way of eating. I like that the book includes a variety of recipes without any overly complicated instructions or hard to find ingredients. However, this book would be greatly enhanced if it included photos of the recipes. I like to know what a recipe is expected to look like. Otherwise, this is a good book to include in your low carb library.

This book is full of information on products to eats and what to avoid on a low carb diet. Easy to follow recipes and instructions. As a visual cook though I would appreciate photos alongside the recipes
I’m always looking for good lower carb recipes to try, and this was The New 500 Low-Carb Recipes by Dana Carpender. I received a copy to review through NetGalley. There were tons of great options for recipes in this book. I made Lemon Pepper Chicken and Gravy. It got a rating of ‘very good’ from my husband, which is pretty rare, and it’s so easy that it will definitely be a recipe I make over and over again. I chose to serve it over rice, which isn’t very low carb, but it would also be delicious with cauliflower rice as suggested in the book.
I'm so looking forward to trying most of the recipes in The New 500 Low-Carb Recipes book. I recently decided to try to cut down on carbs and a lot of these recipes are going to be what gets me through. While this book does not have pictures, it is easy to navigate and has wonderful information. I suggest this to anyone looking to cut down on carbs.

This cookbook includes every type of recipe that readers will need to be successful in regards to low-carb eating. The New 500 Low-Carb Recipes is divided into logical sections such as Hors D-oeuvres, Snacks, and Party Nibbles; Eggs and Dairy; Breads, Muffins, Cereals, and Other Grainy Things; Hot Vegetable Dishes; Side Dish Salads; Chicken and Turkey; Fish; Beef; Pork and Lamb; Main Dish Salads; Soups; Condiments, Seasonings, and Sauces; and Cookies, Cakes, and Other Sweets.
The author is very candid in the introduction, telling readers why the cookbook was conceived and the reasoning behind different recipes. I like how honest Dana Carpender is, giving readers recipes with a wide range of carbohydrate counts because there are many reasons for people needing or wanting lower carbs. The cookbook has variety, which is key for a successful lifestyle change such as low-carb eating. Not making any claims as to anyone's success but her own, this approach is refreshing and often missing from diet based cookbooks. The New 500 Low-Carb Recipes doubles as reference material, as the author goes through different types of ingredients, some of which may be unfamiliar to readers.
Many of the recipes are simple, with many varieties of similar dishes. The biggest problem that I had with The New 500 Low-Carb Recipes was the lack of visual references to the finished dishes. There were simply too many recipes and no photos to break up the monotony. This is not a cookbook that I would use with any regularity because of this, so I would be hesitant to recommend it to other readers.
This cookbook is ok. I generally like one recipe per page, as this looks a little crowded, but I get that you need to squeeze them in when you're working with 500 recipes. When there are so many, I like the Mark Bittman approach - see his encyclopedic cookbooks as an example. The icon key at the top of recipes is nice.
If you’re looking to reduce the carbs you eat this is the perfect book to help you along your way. Containing 500 recipes I’m sure there will be a few that become firm favourites.
If you are looking for a cookbook with low carb recipes this is a good find. Even if you aren't reducing carb intake there are some delicious recipes in this cookbook for everyone. You'll find some detailed informational chapters then recipes including main dishes, desserts and more -- but I think there are more main dishes than anything. You'll also find nutrition information included for each recipe, which is good for those of you looking for low carb recipes.
