Description
Two sisters. One fire. A secret that won't burn out.
The Grayson sisters are trouble. Everyone in their small town knows it. But no-one can know of the secret that binds them together.
Hattie is the light. Penny is the darkness. Together, they have balance.
But one night the balance is toppled. A match is struck. A fire is started. A cruel husband is killed. The potential for a new life flickers in the fire's embers, but resentment, guilt, and jealousy suffocate like smoke.
Their lives have been engulfed in flames - will they ever be able to put them out? Steeped in intrigue and suspense, Sister of Mine is a powerhouse debut; a sharp, disquieting thriller written in stunning, elegant prose with a devastating twist.
Fans of Liane Moriarty’s Big Little Lies and Shari Lapena’s The Couple Next Door will be utterly absorbed by this compulsively readable novel.

Claustrophobic and creepy, you are drawn into the sisters world and convinced by their love hate relationship. Throughout the book it is unclear who did what and whether the sins of the past will ever allow relief in the future. A very satisfying ending. Thankyou to Oldcastle Books and Netgalley for providing me with this free ARC.
Hattie and Penny are sisters, one is good the other is manipulating and evil. Which one is it only time will tell. One is running away from a house fire that made a bad situation go away. Keeping this secret is hard and takes a lot of cunning for one of the sisters. Other people come into their lives along the way and no matter hard she tries to be good her true side will always come out.
I throughly enjoyed reading this until the early hours and look forward to reading more from this author.
A story of loss, heartbreak and sibling rivalry and a tie that binds. The two sisters have a complex relationship but their love for each other knows no bounds. Penny and Hattie are tied together through a dreadful secret they they were keeping. It had to come out though didn't it? The twist at the end was shocking but made for a wonderful read. I thought this was a well written thriller and I enjoyed the twists and turns of the story. Well written, well thought through and a compelling read.
This did not grip me from the beginning but when Jameson came on the scene it began to be more interesting. The two sisters, Hattie and Penny (the narrator) are dependent on each other, having lost both their parents. They live in a small town which enjoys gossip and scandal. The fire described in the prologue holds a secret which bonds the two sisters even more closely. The story is told rather cleverly in flashback glimpses, so your questions are answered without having to wait too long. The last chapters hold some surprises and it concludes satisfactorily.
Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the opportunity to read this book. Honestly I found this book confusing, the scenes changed from one to another. But when you realise what’s happening it works out alright. Another brilliant book for 2019, a very well thought out and well written storyline. Praise to the Author. I think that one or two of the characters needed a shake, Joseph sounds like good fun. All characters worked well together. Well worth 5 stars.
I loved the writing style and the slightly twisted relationship between the two sisters. Penny is a deliberately unlikeable character in some ways (which I always enjoy in a female protagonist) and yet it is easy to empathise with her a great deal, her envy and her bad choices born of insecurity.
The one thing I found slightly disappointing was the ending, because the description promised a killer twist but I saw the twist coming all along. It seemed patently obvious to me from the way the prologue was written what the ending would be, and so I was hoping for some extra twist to surprise me. Perhaps a case where even knowing there's a twist spoils the book a bit!
Very well written, though, and I'd read more from this author.
Very much enjoyed this book, it's quite rare to find novels set in small town Canada! I thought the relationship between the sisters was well explored
After reading this book I’m still uncertain if I enjoyed it or not. I struggled to relate and empathises with any character. The mystery was clearly there but I worked it out early on and so I think that’s what makes or breaks this book. If it remains a mystery it’s a great page turner. For me I felt as though I’d read something similar enough to guess what was happening and what the plot twists were leading to.
The concept and story is appealing certainly and the writing kept the pace.
Sleepy towns have creepy stories to tell. Two sisters with an unusual relationship share a secret which, if revealed, will be devastating. Will the truth come out?
Well written, the story is interesting and well build.
This is the story of the Grayson sisters, and they are troubled. Hattie and Penny, bound together by history and secrets. This is an involving and twisty thriller with a gripping and unexpected ending. I very much enjoyed this debut novel and shall be keeping a sharp eye out for her future work.
A story of 2 sisters and a secret. One sister is good and is bad. It starts off as it continues.....really good! I’ll be looking for more books by this author because the story is well-written with a good plot and likeable and believable characters.
4/5 on goodreads.
