A great book to learn journaling and recording achievements, dreams etc. I think this seems to be aimed at a teenager based on its language , colours and appearance. It would be a great introduction for teenagers and is fun and cheerful, feels a little simplistic to be aimed at a more mature audience
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
This is a perfect book for those who are not quite ready for the time Bullet Journalling takes. Each topic is given a beautifully decorated dedicated page to note down your thoughts. I’m certain it’s the perfect stepping stone to making your own lists.
Vibrant colors and cute formatting. The list challenges are fun and entertaining and have enough black face for even the longest answers.
Great ideas for creating and customizing your own lists/journals/organizing plan. I think this has s good amount of info and ideas to cover a wide range of ages.
My life in lists is a book to start with journaling. Every page has a different prompt to create a list. The layout, colors, and wordings are more aimed towards younger girls. The graphic design is well done and fun for that particular audience. For more mature persons, it's probably too juvenile.
This is a book to guide you to make your own ideal journal.
Jouranaling is confirmed as a tool to increase focus, to enhance productivity and to decrease chaos. All great personalities advocate some sort of reflection in your life, one mode of these is jouranaling.
Thing that you write becomes clear.
.
Data overload of present environment can easily confuse sane mind and deviate from your true destiny.
It might be impossible to make meaning of complex environment.
.
Lists provided in book are artistic, soulful, practical and will be highly useful.
It provides a scaffold to start. Wonderful lists covering different productivity areas are rendered.
It gives you guidance to start and appreciate power of lists.
It is great tool to focus on your goals amongst chaos surrounding your life.
Thanks netgalley and author for review copy.
I have never been a list keeper. I make grocery lists, birthday and important dates lists, and some to-do lists to keep me on track but the level of listing in this book is over the top for me. However, this is a cute and well thought-out presentation of everything you can possibly imagine for those who are so inclined or just want to give it a try. I can see a young person going wild with this, and possibly gaining a life-long habit.
I think I just found the perfect book for my teenage nieces! It's beautifully presented with great ideas for things to journal/remember. I'm a fifty year old woman but I'd still enjoy filling it. Yes,I think this one will be a seller. With thanks to Netgalley and publisher for the digital copy in exchange for my honest review. Can't wait for this one to hit Amazon.
I would like to thank Netgalley and the Publishers for my copy of 'My Life in Lists'. If i were a lot younger, i would have used such a book. I'm sure my 19 yr old granddaughter would love a book like this, which was nicely presented. Recommended. This is my honest review which i have freely given.
This is fabulous book. I can see me using this. It gives you clear prompt pages. It is not like an ordinary journal. This is all about making lists. So if like me you love making lists then you will simply love this.
Thank you to both NetGalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest unbiased review
I'm loving all these journals that have been coming out in recent years. And not only did I enjoy this so much because it's more of a "let's get to know you better" but also it reminded me of a similar styled journal I had in middle school, which I sadly no longer have but like this one was a great time capsule to remind you later on who you were at the time.
It's a fun mix of "this is who I am in this moment" and kind of a bullet journal for those of us who never managed to get to into it.
I can recommend My Life in Lists to anybody who'd like to get him/herself to know better and explore why you're doing what you're doing, how experiences shaped your life and what you like and dislike.
The lists are categorized in chapters and it feels like this is more marketed to younger teens than adults.
Since this is a PDF file I cannot really judge how it ultimately would look like as a hard- or soft cover book.
Really loved this book and how inspired it made me. I couldn't wait to fill in the lists and it was the perfect way to do some self-reflection. Also, the illustrations are really pretty. Great gift for someone, as they will enjoy filling it out!
If you’re like me and you love making lists, then this journal is definitely for you! MY LIFE IN LISTS by Nicole Barlettano is a self-help journal filled with templates and prompts to get your list-making juices flowing. The entire book is centred around making lists. And not just your day-to-day shopping lists. These lists feature prompts that get you thinking about your life, what you like, achievements, memories and so much more!
The My Life in Lists Journal is divided into three sections: Lists about Your Past, Lists for the Present You and Lists to Plan Your Future. This way you get to note down your memories, focus on your present and plan for your future. To make it even more valuable, each page has a beautiful illustrated template where the list-making happens. Squares, bubbles, lines and various other illustrations are created to keep the lists organized. This journal features 100 illustrations and 5 blank pages where you can create and illustrate your own lists!
Some of my favorite lists:
The best decisions I ever made
How I spend my free time
Brain Bubbles
I am inspired by…
Autumn Bucket List
This is a great book for anyone who likes making lists! It’s also a very thoughtful gift and I definitely plan on getting myself a physical copy. My lists are all over the place, so I look forward to having my thoughts organised and noted in one place (which also happens to be a feast for the eyes!). Also make sure to check out Nicole’s Instagram if you like bullet journal inspiration, because her feed is AMAZING!
* Thank you NetGalley for providing me with this arc in exchange for an honest review.
This is a very visually attractive journal and would make a great gift for any girl or teen. I may use some of the ideas presented here in my own bullet journal!
Things I really like about the book:
- it covers the three main time periods in anyone's life; the past, the present and the future,
- the wide variety of topics covered. Examples in the Past section are achievements, challenges I've overcome, favorite memories, best compliments received, most embarrassing moments, people who have changed me, and words that describe me. Examples in the Present section are traditions, bright ideas, favorite quotes, personal traits, likes, dislikes, favorite places, dream log, books read, priorities, quirks, what motivates me, things that energize me, things that drain me, and skills. The Future contains such topics as short-term goals, long-term goals, bucket lists (personal, by season, travel, lifetime), want to try, want to be known for, vision board, bad habits to break, wish list etc.
- that some things are fun and some are more serious,
- that every page is visually different,
- that empty pages are provided to make your own lists.
I thinks Nicole Barlettano did a great job putting this together!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Rock Point for allowing me to read a copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I have been following Nicole on Instagram @plansthatblossom for a while. I was so excited to see she was doing a book. It is so beautifully illustrated. I love Bullet Journaling and list making but am so intimidated by the idea of making one, so this is perfect for me. I am so excited to fill mine up. Love this, I think I might give a few as gifts!
This was an interesting book. I thought the information presented was well laid out and flowed well. I really enjoyed reading it and want to try and start implementing some of what I read.
My Life in Lists is a book that prompts you to pay attention to and to take note of a lot of different aspects of your life. It is also really pretty! Pretty lists: a match made in heaven 😍
In My Life in Lists, each page is a different prompt for you to list information. You’ll find pages like Best Advice I Have Ever Received, Bucket Lists, and Milestones. I have been on the lookout for a book like this that not only has fun prompts but also opportunities to list personal favourites. I swear I have the memory of a sieve, because if prompted I cannot tell you what one of my favourite book/movie/songs. So a book like My Life in Lists is not only fun but for sieve-brained me, it’s fun-ctional 😉
Each list and page within My Life in Lists is set out differently and they all look amazing. Some lists are pretty straight forward like Best Advice I Have Received, and others are very intricate and cute, like the Favourite Quote and My Library page.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Okay, so I received a digital copy of this book to review and after I finished reading through the book – I immediately went and preordered a physical copy. If that isn’t enough of a recommendation for you, then I don’t know what is 😋
If you like writing lists and if you really like cute visuals, then My Life in Lists is for you!
Please note: I received a copy of My Life in Lists from NetGalley.
Barlettano’s book took me back to my pre-teen years when list journals seemed to be all the rage. There were lists for everything under the sun. When I saw this offering on NetGalley, I thought it would be fun to revisit old times. It was, but I also look at it differently now as an adult.
This “Illustrated Journal to Record Your Loves + Goals + Dreams” is exactly what it says and nothing more. Barlettano has divided the journal into three parts: Lists about your Past, Lists for the Present You, and Lists to Plan Your Future.
Some of the list topics are fun and original, such as “What to Binge Watch” and “What’s in My Bag” but many are generic subjects that can be found in most journals or online diaries.
As Barlettano writes in a short “how-to” at the beginning of the journal, it is best to use a pencil when writing the lists because things will change as you change.
Each list is illustrated with different designs or themes, which adds to the journal, but many of the illustrations seemed very “girly” and immature. I am sure there are a lot of people who would find these illustrations wonderful, but I am not one of them. That aside, this journal is well organized and will stimulate introspection for many users.
If you are looking for a creative way to record your life story, don't buy a blank journal - treat yourself to My Life In List!
Each page contains a Journaling prompt and a creatively designed graphic that will aid you in telling your personal story without ever feeling like you are at a loss for words!
If you believe your story is important and that writing about it should be fun, than this book is for you!
I reviewed an e-copy of this book through Netgalley and would be very interested in the print version based on what I saw!
I've been bullet journaling for the last twelve months. Or, if I'm being honest, I've been giving bullet journaling a shot for the last twelve months. I've tried many things with it and I haven't stuck to much of it - I'm changing my layouts every months as I've found that some things stop working for me within days.
The only thing I know for sure is that I love making lists. They help me get my mental health in a better shape, but I don't know how to utilize them to work as smoothly for me as they can. That was the reason I requested this book, I needed some inspiration.
And this one hit the nail right on the head for me. This illustrated journal helped me put so much in perspective, as well as gave me ideas on how to keep going with my own journal. The journal is illustrated really well, the layouts looked really cute, and I liked how it was organized and sectioned. It's a great tool to use if you're feeling stuck with how you plan and keep track of your day - it won't offer you some miracle solution, but it will inspire you. And if you're new to the whole list making as journaling concept, it's a great place to start.
I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
Thanks NetGalley!
I love this book! I can't wait to buy the physical one as opposed to just looking at the arc. This makes it easy to add to a journal or just fill out the lists to know yourself.
Honest and in-depth advice for reaching your full potential. This advice is presented in easy to follow language that can be broken up and applied in pieces at a time.
Lots of ideas for lists, lots of inspiration, but I think I kind of wanted a bit more about lists and how the author uses them. Not super into the aesthetic though.
My Life in Lists is a new guide to illustrated journaling with gentle suggestions by Nicole Barlettano. Released 7th May 2019 by Quarto on their Rock Point imprint, it's 128 pages and available in paperback format.
I love journaling and notebooks, but I have a hard time starting to write in a new notebook. I love buying new ones (with all the best intentions, obviously), but they wind up sitting in a collection on my bookshelf. This book aims to gently move stuck writers in the right direction; putting pen to paper by including guided lists of fill-in-yourself illustrated pages. It reminds me quite a lot of an adult version of the ubiquitous 'baby book' that everyone gets when they announce a pregnancy.
There are a number of different types of lists: things which happened in the past to you, things you want to achieve, lists for the present, important dates, anniversaries and birthdays, and many others.
The illustrated pages are very pretty and pastel with nice layouts which are easy on the eyes. They also would lend themselves very well to drawing by hand in another journal with personalizations included.
Four stars, very cute. It would make a nice gift/hostess gift.
This colorful book guides you through processing your past, present, and future by a variety of lists. Here is a place to write down your goals, your favorite TV shows, and your bucket list. My Life is Lists is great when you are confused about everything in life and don't know where to start. These simple activities get you starting organizing what you want for your life.
These lists are great for motivating you to work toward a major life goal and to monitor your progress on it, but it also has many pages that would be great for improving mental health and anxiety.
The only thing that I would change is the page for the vision boad. People really love vision boards and I think one side of a page is a bit too small to fill it and make the most of it. I think it would be beneficial if it were printed to fill both pages, or even if it could be printed as a fold out page. But this my personal preference, for some people a single side of a page may be plenty of space.
I liked that there were the few blank list pages at the end of the book so that you can add your own lists in your own style.
This book is listed under adult nonfiction, which I agree with. But I believe this book would be great for young adults also. I especially think that this would be an amazing gift for high schoolers and college students upon their graduation.
If you love to organize via lists you should check out this book, I definitely recommend it.
Thank you Quarto Publishing Group - Rock Point and NetGalley for sharing a digital ARC with me, this is my honest review.
Thank you Quatro - Rock Point Publishing for this ARC.
This was an attractively illustrated book of lists to prompt further exploration. Perfect for someone wanting an attractive promoting book for beginning to journal, or perhaps a tween-teenager.
The prompts are quite generic to similar books and give limited spacing for anything other than superficial thoughts. It could be good to use in conjunction with a seperate diary to explore the prompts at a deeper level.
This is a really fun way to organise. Taking inspiration from bullet journals, this is definitely on trend at the moment. It's bright and appealing to look at and fun to fill out. I suspect it might be aimed at teenagers but at 31 I found it very useful!
This journal / book of lists is so much cuter inside than the cover hints at that I was very pleasantly surprised when I opened it and started looking through it. Very colorful and cheerful, and it’s just the thing I think my niece’s 4 daughters would enjoy, being teenagers. First, there are some great tips for using it, so check those out (like do it in pencil.)
It is sectioned into lists for things from the past, the present, and I already know they love making lists about the future, as I’ve seen them do it on Facebook enough. There are 100 lists, which I think is just great, on all kinds of topics relating to life. Some of my favorites are: Achievements, Challenges I’ve Overcome, Best Advice, Most Embarrassing Moments, 15 Minute Me Time, My Perfect Day, and dozens more on different topics.
There are prompts to guide you. There are no set rules, the prompts can be used or changed to suit yourself. You can also change from words to doodles if you like, it’s all up to you how you wish to use it.There are a handful of blank pages in the back if you want to try making your own lists and illustrating them. Advance electronic review copy was provided by NetGalley, author Nicole Barlettano, and the publisher.
This is really great. A lot of good ideas in here. Sure to be very popular with the bullet journaling crowd.
This is a good resource for those who bullet journal and/or art journal. There are plenty of prompts with layout ideas. I’m reviewing a digital ARC so I cannot say how well the book itself would work as a journal. But most of the layouts would be very simple to recreate in your own preferred sketchbook or journal.
I’d have given it 5 but some of the prompts seem too similar. There’s a lot of everything here from serious personal issues you need to work through to what you’re watching or reading. A few seemed like they could have used more blank space than is provided in the book while others needed less space (the layout for your dream jobs for example — does anyone really have 18 dream jobs because there’s slots for 18).
Overall, a nice book of prompts and layouts that allow people to jump right into a bullet journal style layout without needing any prior experience. It’s especially good for those who get stumped at the layout aspect as that’s done for you.
Cute little journal. I have seen many books like it, so there's not much unique to it, but I like the way it presents itself.
This book is cute. It's a nice easy start to journaling for someone like me who has lot of thoughts and does not know how to put it on paper. The writing prompts are easy and help me reflect on what I'd like to write down. This book would be much better enjoyed in a hard copy.
This book is a book of list prompts that stem from what the author considers "deep" questions. The problem though is that the categories are so vague, the reader/writer often ends up with writer's block. It's not easy to come up with your most embarrassing moments, because we go through one at least once a week. Not that this book is bad, it just contributes to the white noise of prompt journals.
A good workbook and the illustrations are related to what the list is about. Lists could be transferred over to a bullet journal. At the end there is a few pages for extra notes if wanted. Can help remember things, help with goals or whatever the list is about. Really nice
This is a journal for those who love to write lists, though I feel it's at times more suitable for teens than adults. I loved the vibrant colours, that each page has a different visual layout and that there was a great mix of prompts (both on past, present and future).
I love a good list! As an ebook this one doesn’t really work because you can’t add to it BUT I’d love to have a paper copy. With great ideas for past memories, what’s going on right now and preparing and planning for the future there’s every kind of list you could hope for with simple illustrations and space for plenty of items in each list.
I received an eARC of this book from the publishers via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley, this review is my personal opinion.
I know many people will love this book, not only for the colorful page. But it has a new level of the list, is good to keep a record of your life. I think this could be a wonderful gift for a teenager to see how his life has been changing. I even will try several of the ideas in the books because I never thought to write them down. So I say, well done. Very creative, it looks like it was done with care and love.
If you will like to keep a journal in a different way, this book was made for you.
Thanks to Quarto Publishing Group - Rock Point Rock Point for the ARC of this book.
This book is pretty and so much fun.... if you like lists or journaling of course!
I am sad I only got an ARC copy as an ebook so I didn’t get to fully appreciate the positives of this book but I think it is certainly something to look out for for anyone who wants to be mindful, likes to list or journal. It would also make an ideal gift (in hard copy)!
Personally I have several similar journals from the listography series, and while I like that "My Life in Lists" is way more colorful, cute and fun to write, it is simply too short and provides less pages. If there's as many pages as any journal of the listography series, I would definitely be interested in buying a physical copy. Still, I like the layout, cover and page designs, so I'm giving it four stars :)
My Life in Lists by Nicole Barlettano is an illustrated journal full of list prompts. The book is sectioned into past, present, and future-oriented lists. There is a page for each prompt and accompanying lists, and there are 100 lists in the book. There are also some blank illustrated pages at the back of the book so you can create your own lists. The author writes that there’s no need to do it sequentially; it’s meant to be able to jump around. She suggests writing in pencil so you can make changes over time.
The colour scheme is bright and predominantly blues and pinks. There are cute shapes used for list entries, like banners pulled by planes for travel bucket list entries, or batteries for a list of things that energize you. List topics range from challenges overcome to most embarrassing moments to never have I ever.
Several reviewers on NetGalley commented that this book seemed geared towards a younger audience. I can see that in terms of the aesthetic, but the prompts themselves are pretty ageless. It wouldn’t be my colour scheme of choice just out of personal preference, but the image below from the book’s Amazon listing gives a good idea of the overall look of the book.
I think this journal would make a cute gift idea.
I reallyyyyy love lists and I've been doing journaling for two years. So, I put some of the lists in my bullet journal. I liked that there were lists for things from the past, the present and future. It really helped me since I am a little resentful about things I did years ago(and people did to me). So, I think the concept of the book is really great, since you can express your feelings and open yourself. I spend days thinking about many of the lists, but my favorites were Challenges I’ve Overcome, 15 Minute Me Time(this one was really difficult to complete), Letter to the past(I almost cried here), etc.
Overall, the book is really cute and colorful and most of the lists invite you to explore your mind.
This book is great for the young girl who likes to reflect upon a wide range of aspects in her life, and who likes to compile lists. The pages actually feature colorful and pretty frames that you can write in. Prompts are provided on each page. Perhaps a good way to jumpstart a journaling habit.. When I was much younger, I did not have access to such material. I'm sure I would have jumped for joy to get this as a gift!
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the review copy. This is my honest review.
.
This book is soooo much fun! I love list making. The doodles are good, the topics are good. So nice to find something to do that's fun and isn't on a screen.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review!
As an obsessed list maker, I absolutely loved this book. I've been journaling since I was a kid, but as a kid I didn't have the privacy I really wanted or deserved so I always ended up ripping them up. I got this book as an ebook so I eventually want to get a physical copy of it so I can I write in it.
I loved the creativeness of this book, I loved the drawings, the vibrant colors and topics they gave you to write about. In a way this reminds me of Kristina Webb's book: 'Color Me Creative'. Another amazing book that unleashes your creative side.
Overall, I will be getting a physical copy of this book. Thank you to Netgalley and and Quarto Publishing for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I love journaling and filling the pages of this journal. It covers a lot of topics. There is a lot of things in that I used in my own personal journal. It made me want to keep track of things. A good way of keeping tracking all of this and more. I enjoying do in this and adding my own thoughts and notes to it along the way.
