This book is amazing, I’m a non vegan and I am a meat eater but I’m trying t introduce more options, less meat and this book was a fabulous way to show others vegan can be great, tasty and you dint need dairy, eggs etc to bake great things, really colourful and appealing, the pictures alone make you drool with reading the recipes. The recipes are straightforward, using plain English and no complex confusing systems. A fab book
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
The first thing that grabs you about this book is the colors! The colors and the photography set-ups are absolutely incredible! The photos are so appetizing that you will want to try every recipe - whether you are a vegan or not. I'm not a vegan and I am game to try every single recipe in this cookbook.
What to try first?? Blueberry Lemon Muffins with Coconut Crumble ... Classic Buttery Scones ... Berry and Lemon Cheescakes ... Pomegranate Yogurt Cake ... Black Forest Cake ... Rainbow Frozen Yogurt Granola Popsicles ... I can't wait to get started!
These recipes look incredible!!! I can not wait to make so many of these! Very colorful and healthy! Recipes look to be simple enough that a non-experience person like myself can make them.
Huge Thank you to NetGalley and publishers for allowing me this opportunity!!!
Ors in this book are extraordinary but seem to unrealistic for actual results. However I do love the recipes and the few I hav tried are tasty. I had trouble with the scones the texture was off but still yummy. I believe this will be a nice addition to my cookbook collection. I have many gluten free and Vegan friends and I am challenging my self to master a few of these recipes for them. The spelt shortbread cookies are excellent ad have a tasty buttery flavor. The caramel slices did not look appealing a all (my fault I am sure). However they taste delicious so I will practice making them better. I am not a laying extraordinaire and mine blended together in a messy glob but I feel practice will resolve that problem. Overall I am very satisfied with the cookbook.I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review and I would recommend giving it a try.
The front cover of this book had me from the start. Then I opened the cover and page after page was full of beautiful photography, stories and recipes. The colors are mesmerizing! I want to make all of these recipes, will work my way through the book from start to finish.
Delicious Vegan recipes. It’s not easy being Vegan and these recipes need some preparation but the results look mouth watering. You could make these cakes using standard ingredients and it would be interesting to see how they compare. I have one criticism, and this might be because my prepublication copy is on an iPad, The photographs are highly coloured and look like someone has been heavy handed with the food colouring. However I am definitely going to try some Vegan baking,
This was a fun cookbook. It has a lot of interesting recipes as well as beautiful photos. This book shows that being vegan/vegetarian doesn't mean eating boring food.
I love dessert, probably a bit too much at times, so a book with plant based desserts? I'm all over that.
The chapter on breakfasts is definitely the one I am most impressed with I found that the recipes were all easy to understand and follow. Most of these recipes were also easy enough for someone without much experience with cooking.
Recipes that I have tried out and recommend are the
Apple pie overnight oats
Peaches and cream sourdough french toast
the apple pie overnight oats are amazing!
I have the Unbaked Notella cheesecake on my to be tried list as well it looks so delicious.
This book is jam packed with vibrant plant based cakes and sweet treats. Although I am yet to try any of the recipes, if they taste as good as they look in the illustrations then this book is an absolute winner.
A fantastic resource for people with allergies and sensitivities who are looking for impressive desserts made with alternative ingredients.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an advance copy of this title in exchange for an unbiased review.
Wow, this has to be one of the most beautiful cookbooks I've ever looked through. It's full of stunning photographs of both the recipes and Cheng's environment. Even the recipe pages are beautifully designed. The title is true that these are incredible looking desserts, and I immediately bookmarked several that I want to try. From staples like how to make your own chocolate, to how to make a tiramisu trifle that looks amazing, this book has it all. It's one of those cookbooks that makes you wish you had the real thing in front of you!
Colorful dried pear slices
Granola Popsicles
Bear friendly cookies look so cute.
Chocolate dipped popsicles along with colorful garnishing on them, tke it to a whole new level.
Caramel slices
The book is decadent. have some chocolate handy in the fridge, cause you are gonna look for it after all the appetising pictures.
Baklava custard tart.
The base of the page is frosted and other variations. Total Eye Candy. Hard to peel your eyes off of.
I will make the berry chia jam.
Date caramel.
A peek into Australian Desserts
When we think of vegan or plant-based, we don't usually think of dessert. In fact, as someone who has recently switched to a plant-based diet, dessert often presents the biggest challenge. So many desserts require dairy and/or eggs, that dessert seems like it would be a thing of the past. How exciting, then, to have an entire cookbook of delicious desserts that meet our dietary needs. I am excited to try more of these desserts!
The photography is so bright and fun, and really showcases the food and subjects of the photo. I love how some photos are inserts and some are full pages, but regardless of size, the photos are perfect for this cookbook! I also loved how colorful the pages are in general; there always seems to be some sort of photo or art on each page, making this a really fun and upbeat cookbook. It makes you want to cook and experience the food it describes.
This cookbook feels very personal. There are asides on some of the pages that add a personal touch to the recipes and give little anecdotes about the food presented. It just makes it more personal and adds a nice touch.
This isn't just a cookbook, it is more like a lifestyle book that highlights food and eating. This is shown in some of the photographs which focus on plants and whole-based living. This is combined with information about eating vegan food makes it more of a handbook for a lifestyle.
Overall, I really enjoyed reading through this cookbook and I look forward to trying some of the recipes inside!
This is a beautiful book full of stunning photographs. If you want to convince people to have a go at a recipe this is the way to do it. Everything in the book looks so delicious and vibrant, I would definitely want one for my coffee table. Some of the recipes are very appealing and I will definitely be trying a few out. The only thing I would have loved to see a few more of were the quick everyday basic recipes interlaced with the more complicated special occasion recipes. But overall brilliant a stunning book.
Incredible Plant-Based Desserts features a wide range of vegan recipes from cakes and cookies to popsicles and muffins. Each recipe is accompanied by a gorgeous and visually appealing photo of the decadent treat. The instructions are fairly simple though several of the recipes are slightly more advanced. Personally, I'm not a very good baker but I could see myself successfully making a few of these sweets. The only bad part of this book is deciding which dessert to make first!
*Thank you to NetGalley and Quarry Book publishers for providing a free ARC
Incredible Plant-Based Desserts by Anthea Cheng is filled with vibrant, color photos depicting recipes found in her cookbook. Cheng seems to like bright colors and color combinations when creating desserts. You will find plenty of decorations depicting bright purples, yellows and neon green. If you like this style of decorating, you will love her cookbook.
Her cookbook offers recipes for breakfasts, snacks, desserts and condiments. Here are some of the recipes you'll find in her cookbook:
Easy Baked Banana Pancakes
Chocolate Cups, Three Ways
Cookie Dough Bars
Classic Buttery Scones
Unbaked Notella Cheesecake
Customizable Classic Baked Vanilla Cake
Chocolate Ganache
Whipped Coconut Cream
Review written after downloading a galley from NetGalley
I was generously offered a e-book copy ahead of release of Incredible Plant-Based Desserts by Anthea Cheng from the publisher for a honest review through Netgalley.
The book starts with some kitchen gadgets that may make your life easier. Then, even though it is called Incredible Plant-Based Desserts, the book starts with some breakfasts. Some of these may be familiar or unfamiliar. I know I'm not a fan of ONOs or smoothies, so I didn't try some of these based upon that. There are some fun recipes, such as popsicles that people with kids would do well with. The snacks section was full of things I would consider desserts and not snacks, but that's probably my age showing.
Many of the recipes are sweetened by dates. Unfortunately, I do not care for dates - at all. Which means that any recipe that required dates would not be one I would try. I learned that even using dates for sweetening is not something I enjoy based on recipes I have made in the past. However, if you are looking for a less refined sweetener, dates is the way to go.
The layout is pretty. There are beautiful, vibrant color images, and little thought bubbles in painted swirls.
I only tried two recipes: the Chocolate Brownie Peanut Butter Sandwich Cookies and the Cookie Dough Bars. I initially planned to try about six recipes. However, there are two big drawbacks to the recipes in this book: the ingredients can be expensive and hard to find (I paid $15 for just one ingredient for the cookie dough bars) and the resulting treats taste healthy or like non-vegans expect vegan food to taste. Unfortunately, for my family and I, those are deal breakers. My family asked me not to make any more of the planned recipes after two disappointments.
I found the recipes to be very easy to make and not particularly time consuming. They also were very rich. So if you like rich treats, these will be right up your alley.
I would recommend this book to vegan families and parents who are trying to make healthier treats for the kids. Many of the recipes engage kids to participate with the decorating and are lunchbox ready.
This will be a great cookbook if you're in the target audience. For others, it's not likely to be a good fit. While I cook vegetarian, homemade and gluten free, very few of the recipes were the type that I enjoy making with/for my kids (my 16 y/o son Jack does a lot of baking with me).
The photos are very bright but were very strange on one of my devices. I read digital ARCs on an older iPad and on my computer. The photos were a little jarring on my computer but were okay, but on my iPad they were incredibly oversaturated, dark and grainy. I read other cookbooks on it often, so I don't think it's just my device. In any case, I'm not sure how well this cookbook will translate for some e-readers.
Many of the recipes are not for foods I would call desserts. There is a large breakfast section with things like overnight oats, for instance, and other foods like muffins are listed. I guess I see how these are sweet and can seem like a dessert, but it struck me as odd.
Many recipes are raw and many are gluten free or can be adapted. Most of the recipes are VERY healthy -- they are made with whole foods, lots of fruits, no refined sugar, and without fake ingredients. Many are also quite colorful, employing ingredients like brightly colored "superfood" powders. While some recipes are on the easier side, many struck me as a bit complicated. Nutritional information is not given.
I read a digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.
If you're not hungry before reading this book you certainly are after!!!
Amazing!
Well done!
All those recipes and explanation and those wonderful photos!
I just want to try at least half of those recipes, I'm hungry now! So many choices, so many healthy options...
Maybe my favorites are for breakfast.
Really interesting and well put together!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC of this book. This is my honest review. All opinions are my own.
Absolutely stunning!!! The pictures and colors of the food in this book make it a work of art. While I do not eat this type of diet, the recipes and pictures would make me want to try. This would make for a beautiful gift for any foodie. If I knew this author personally I would want them to cater my next party :)
The full color photos of these desserts are very eye catching. There are some basic, easy to make desserts and some a bit more complicated but easy enough to make with step by step instructions.
Amazing what one can make and eat and be satisfied with being a vegan.
I look forward to making many of these desserts now that the weather is conducive to baking with the cooler temperatures

I was given a complimentary copy of this book. Thank you.
All opinions expressed are my own.
As a strict Vegan i absolutely loved this book - its colourful, beautiful pictures, great recipes, sweet cakes and deserts. whats not to love about this book - I cant wait to get the hardcopy so i can sit and flick thorough it and just look at the amazing pictures and try out all the recepies. 10 out of 10.
Who the heck is this woman’s photographer?! Seriously?!? I was shocked and in awe of the stunningly beautiful, bright and colorful photos heavily sprinkled throughout Incredible Plant-Based Desserts! Honestly, these cookbook photos are the cookbook photos that other cookbook photos aspire to be!
Incredible Plant-Based Desserts was just that, incredible. I own and have read quite a few vegan cookbooks. Most of which are filled with recipes that call for a ton of ingredients that 1) I’ve never heard of and 2) I can’t even begin to pronounce. Cheng’s recipes were not only filled with ingredients I knew and could pronounce, but lots of ingredients that I already had in my kitchen!
I know that a vegan diet isn’t for everybody, believe me, I’ve been listening to people criticize vegetarian and vegan eating for longer than I can remember, and there are some vegan treats that I’m not even into. Like granola. As hard as I try, I cannot seem to enjoy granola. But come on, who would say no to delicious sounding recipes like these; Very Berry Pie Infused with Chamomile, Notella Cheesecake, Rainbow Pear Chai Cake (which is the most beautiful looking cake I have ever seen), Berry Chocolate Mousse Tart and Tiramisu Trifle with Caramelized Popcorn!
I loved how Cheng listed the recipe alternatives you can use for allergies and diet options. The alternatives were broken down in a helpful and useful quick guide, that I can already see myself referring to in any future vegan cooking adventures.
Honestly, though, those photos!!! They were amazing and were able to show the incredible depth of color a plant-based diet can encompass. I also really enjoyed the photos of market scenes, plants and herself that were thrown into the mix!
The only negative is that, just like in any baking book, there will be a learning curve. We, as readers, are typically not going to have the necessary equipment, or the means to go out and purchase the equipment, just to make some desserts for ourselves. We aren’t professionals (for the most part) and the majority of what we try to bake will not look anywhere near as perfect and beautiful as Cheng’s creations, but if you have fun stepping out of your kitchen comfort zone, and enjoy some tasty (if not a little lopsided) baked goods, then I’m sure you’ll love Incredible Plant-Based Desserts. I, for one, can’t wait to try out several of Cheng’s recipes!!!
I really enjoyed this book -- especially the focus on not 'just colorful vegan food...' but 'about the 'rainbow or diversity of ways that people can nourish themselves'. Having developed new food sensitivities and awareness, I've realized that I prefer a plant-based diet despite not being a vegetarian/vegan. This book encourages self-care activities even outside of the kitchen which is something that can be forgotten in this fast-paced day and age. The photos are beautiful and colorful, the ingredients fairly easy to find, and the instructions numbered (needed in my case). There are also interesting tips that I learned from ('black salt is high in sodium chloride so it smells and tastes like eggs', for less sweet desserts, use coconut sugar for regular sugar, etc.). It's a book that's a good resource for those looking for more plant-based desserts.
I enjoyed this book with on caveat.
I loved how the author broke down the ideas behinds the plant based aspects and how it made a difference in each recipe. this helps me when I want to create my own desserts,
The instructions are clear and concise. I feel I can follow them and get the product described by the author. But....
I love the color scheme of the book. The over all aesthetic are lovely but you can tell so much has been edited and done up. I didn't feel like the photos are truly what the food looks like.
I understand there is much color and that's what the author was going for but the pictures didn't portray true color- it all looked like an Instagram filter.
Incredible Plant-Based Desserts by Anthea Cheng
Gorgeous photos of delicious desserts that are easy to follow with ingredients that are not too difficult to find have inspired me to join the author’s blog, instagram and facebook pages. I am hoping to try one of the recipes tonight and have it for breakfast in the morning. I am definitely interested in trying m ore than one of the recipes in the future and plan to share the title not only on my blog but with my sister and others. I do believe this book is one I would love to have in my library. Why? Because I am moving more and more toward vegan 24/7 and this book would allow me to have treats and sweets that are beautiful and tasty while sticking tot he vegan lifestyle.
The book is set up with the author’s story first followed by how to cook vegan, gluten-free and sugar-free with suggested equipment, ingredients and some substitutions provided. There is also information on food allergies and how to create sweets for a variety of situations. The rest of the book is broken uup into Breakfasts, Snacks, Cafe-style treats, Celebrations and ends with condiments and frostings.
Some of the layered desserts, cheesecakes, tiramisu, caramels and buttercream frostings intrigued me. I also found the ways of creating pancakes, cakes and muffins definitely worth trying as they are different from other vegan recipes I have seen.
Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing-Quarry for the ARC – This is my honest review.
5 Stars
If you need a gift for a vegan or vegetarian, this book is a lovely option! The photos are really stunning, and the author's designs are truly artwork. So far I've only tried the less-vibrant recipe for "Notella" but I am looking foward to trying others as well. The book is geared toward desserts but many of the vegan recipes could be used for other meal ideas as well.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a digital ARC.
The recipes are incredible. It’s a stunning book and I enjoyed the aesthetic. I tried a couple of recipes and they were a favourite in our house. I can’t wait to try more.
Great photography and delicious plant based food. I loved the layout of this book and could drool over the pictures all day. Will definitely try some of these recipies.
Disclaimer: I was given an advance reader copy of this ebook from Quarto Publishing Group – Quarry via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This cookbook is beautiful and has a good variety of recipes. It has a good variety of recipes that aren't ones that are found in most cookbooks. There are many recipes that I want to try because they have unusual flavor combinations that combine sweet and savory . I would recommend this cookbook for anyone that loves to try new flavor combinations. I think this book would be great for vegans and non vegans alike.
If you want to be creative in your kitchen
Anthea Cheng's book "Incredible Plant-Based Deserts. Colorful Vegan Cakes, Cookies, Tarts, and other Epic Delights" published by Quarto Publishing Group - Quarry, stimulates the eye and the stomach. In the first part of the book Cheng presents equipment that will make life easier, but also information how to make desserts with vegan, gluten-free, and refined sugar-free ingredients and how to make desserts for people with specific allergies and sensitivities. The main part of the book contains inspiring recipes for breakfasts, snacks, cafe-style treats and basic condiments and frostings.
This is the first book by this author which I have read and I was inspired by the colorful photographs and design. The vegan recipes cannot only be used for vegans, but also for vegetarians and "normal eaters". I also appreciated the inclusion of additional information, e.g., about the background of the recipes. Through this book Cheng also shows how colorful nature is without adding additional food coloring by using vegetable-based powders such as beetroot powder or blue spirulina. It is also helpful that she adds tips, e.g., how to grind chia seeds or flax seeds, and that she presents not only the recipes for various treats, but also the recipes for basics such as DIY Chocolate, Classic Caramel, or various styles of Butter cream. The very detailed index can also be a good help to readers when they are searching for something specific. I highly recommend this book that can also make a great gift because it also contains recipes for every skill level.
The complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley free of charge. I was under no obligation to offer a positive review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
#IncrediblePlantBasedDeserts #NetGalley
The pictures of these desserts are beautiful and so vibrant.. I really liked that this book has some easier and more basic recipes as well as some more advanced and trickier ones. It goes to show that you still have lots options even as a vegan. I look forward to trying out some if these recipes.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review.
I received a copy of this arc from NetGalley for an honest review. Dessert is the best meal, isn't it? How about trying a healthier version using plant-based recipes. I am most looking forward to trying several of the overnight oats recipes.
I am not really a fan of Vegan recipes, I have always liked the idea of it but never thought they would taste as good. However the colorful photography really drew me into reading this and the idea that I could eat healthier versions of my favorite foods didn’t seem so difficult anymore. I really enjoyed reading Anthea Cheng’s versions of the classic desserts. Many of the recipes include pantry staple items, so one does not feel the need over overspend on ingredients one might use once, that is something I really appreciated. As someone who tries to stay out of the kitchen, I found myself wanting to try some of the recipes out right away like her recipe for the Bliss Balls Three Ways, (those were delicious)
Super beautiful photos are the highlight of this book. The recipes are easy to follow and not too complicated to make.
Beautiful book with a lot of inspiration and clearly a lot of love from the author that shows throughout the book.
I defiantly got some ideas on what to try while reading through this book and can't wait to see what received from it will become favorites of mine.
This is a great book full of mouth-watering plant-based recipes. Some of the recipes have quite a few ingredients but the extra effort required to make these desserts will definitely be worth it. Other recipes are quick and simple to make. There are many beautiful photographs of the finished dishes with amazing vibrant colours which are sure to impress vegans and non-vegans alike.
The desserts all look very special and I recommend this book to dessert-loving vegans or anyone interested in healthier and more natural variations of desserts. Many of these recipes are especially great for parties and celebrations.
Thank you to NetGalley and Quarry Books for the opportunity to read and review this title.
Anthea Cheng’s plant-based cornucopia of dessert-type foods certainly lives up to the adjective on the cover!
This book is packed with lush, vibrantly colourful photographs of absolutely mouth-watering treats.
The recipes seem uncomplicated and relatively straightforward to follow, with the required ingredients and equipment clearly listed and step-by-step instructions for making the dish.
There are not only desserts featured here, but breakfasts and snack foods too – all following principles of clean-eating: vegan, raw, healthy and, of course (as Cheng’s blog is called Rainbow Nourishments!), ‘eating the rainbow’.
The author offers substitution options for those who have allergies or intolerances, which is perfect for us, as Babybows has a dairy intolerance. Speaking of the smalls, this book is a great inspiration for child-friendly, healthy-but-sweet treats. My two have earmarked almost every recipe for testing! (We’ve earmarked the Chocolate Cupcakes with Rainbow Buttercream for our first experiment – yum yum!)
Honestly, I would be happy to buy this book for the beautifully edible photography alone, so the healthy treats are an exceptional bonus in my view. Definitely one for fans of ‘free-from’ eating with added fun.
Learning from the struggles of my parents and my childhood, I wanted to make Rainbow Nourishments less about the kitchen and more about connecting with people on a deeper level. It grew into a large social media account and blog that shared wholesome vegan recipes and promoted discussion about wellbeing and the environment. It became a cake business, providing treats to the most popular cafes in my city, for weddings, birthdays and special events. I now develop recipes with large and small corporations, and I act as a food consultant to dessert businesses around the world. I host many pop-up events, including high teas, dinners and workshops, in Australia and internationally. The recipes in this book come from my professional experience and also a place of love and kindness.
– Anthea Cheng, Incredible Plant-Based Desserts
Review by Steph Warren of Bookshine and Readbows blog
The book Incredible Plant Based Desserts I see more as a bakery book rather than just desserts.
The book is split into an Introduction and five sections which are:
- Nourishing breakfasts
- Snack time
- Café style treats
- Share and celebration
- Basic condiments and frostings
The Introduction includes a list of equipment required, explanation of diary and gluten alternatives, egg substitutes, sweeteners and other essentials, including nut alternatives for those with allergies - this is good as many of the recipes do include a nut of some sort.
Each recipe comes with imperial and metric measurements, portions sizes and full colour photography. Many of the bakes and frostings can be kept in the fridge for a few days, or in the freezer for a couple of months.
I received this book from Netgalley in return for a honest review.
