This book is everything I hoped it would be and more! Full of stunningly beautiful photographs and projects, this is a very easy to follow and inspirational guide book!
The Ultimate Fluid Pouring & Painting Project Book by Jane Monteith is a very timely book of a popular craft. I've seen some paint pouring instruction books before, and this one includes new ideas that I hadn't seen before. I love the idea of incorporating resin into the project and making vases that are quite beautiful.
I would recommend this book to any crafter who is looking for some new projects to try! It's full of great ideas, step by step directions and full color photos of the whole process.
This book is gorgeous -- full of great information and beautiful projects. I've been wanting to do fluid pouring and to learn to use alcohol inks for a while now because the colors are so vibrant and it seems so fun. This book gives step-by-step instructions for some simple projects and some very complicated ones. I'm not sure how likely I am to actually try it since the materials seem expensive and it doesn't seem very child friendly (I generally do my crafting with my young, teen and grown kids). You need to use gloves and have lots of ventilation for some projects, for instance. It doesn't seem very environmentally friendly or pocketbook friendly.
I love the looks of it, but I may try to do something different with some more natural materials with my kids, using the projects for inspiration. For those who want to try these mediums, this is a fantastic book to get you going.
I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.
Thank you to NetGalley for the Advanced Reader's Copy of this book. I received this in exchange for my honest review. I have been keeping my eye on this popular new art form. It looks very interesting and I am eager to try it. This book was very helpful and made me really want to get going on this new trend. I love how well it was broken down: what materials you needed, different project ideas and how to complete them.
Fluid pouring and resin pouring are both diy crafts I have wanted to try since the first time I saw them. The end results look incredibly beautiful and each outcome is completely unique.
The number one rule is to have fun and not worry about perfection. The number two rule is to use the proper materials. This book was so helpful in learning techniques and what tools and materials are required.
So many great diy ideas that can be done by anyone at any level beginner or professional.
Wow this book is amazing. I love all the resin based projects especially the vase. I would love to have a go. The results are brilliant, and it is not as time consuming as some other methods. I really like the agate coasters too. The projects can be completed within a reasonable time frame so anyone can have a go. The only downside is some of the materials are quite expensive. If you wanted to re-vamp your home you can get some brilliant unique and creative ideas from this book, and colour coordinate them to suit your space and style. I want this book as a coffee table fixture. Dipping into it, browsing and mulling will inspire me with all sorts of ideas. Brilliant book - thank you
I have had a lowkey interest in fluid painting for years now and thought that I was fairly knowledgeable on the subject but this book proved to me that I was wrong. I had no idea how versatile this art form really is, and the author opened my eyes to so many types of projects that I had never considered or even imagined. Incredibly inspiring and filled with a series of vibrant photographs to illustrate techniques.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
This book is bright and vibrant and full of amazing fluid pouring and painting projects using alcohol inks. I found the instructions to be easy to follow and the amount of information given is easy to understand.
I've been wanting to try fluid pouring and painting for ages after seeing some amazing art pieces on instagram using this method. I'm really excited about giving this a try after reading this book and hope one day I can move forward onto some of the more complex projects in this book.
The Ultimate Fluid Pouring & Painting Project Book is a tutorial and inspiration guide for creating paintings and artwork with resin and inks. Due out 12th Nov 2019 from Quarto on their Quarry imprint, it's 144 pages and will be available in paperback format.
An introduction to the media used in the tutorials also covers tools and supplies and represents about 10% of the page content. The author's writing is clear and accessible and easy to understand. The following 12 chapters contain a wide variety of tutorials for art projects, from resin disks (coasters, magnets, etc), to collage, a stunning vase, and resin coated cheeseboards.
The tutorials themselves are logically formatted and easy to follow. Tools and supplies are listed in a sidebar section, along with a description, step-by-step instructions and clear photos. The photography is very high quality and supports the tutorials well.
This would be a good choice for adults or well supervised (very) small groups of students well supervised and directed. There are safety and toxicity concerns with most of the supplies used in these projects and that should be taken into consideration with regard to studio space ventilation, fire hazard, etc.
Really lovely and appealing projects, well documented. The book also includes a troubleshooting guide/FAQ and an abbreviated resource links list. The supplies can be challenging to source locally, however, everything is readily available online.
Four stars.
I do like the art form of fluid pouring, it’s very cathartic to watch as the paint slides out of the container and spreads leisurely across the paper like a slow-moving volcanic flow. It’s soothing, hypnotic and oddly beautiful as the colours merge and change.
However, by its very nature, it isn’t something that you can copy and reproduce or teach. It’s chaotic and creative and so I was sceptical about a book detailing how it’s done. Thankfully Jane Monteith recognises that and only offers advice on how to apply the blending solution and what colours to avoid to ensure your painting doesn’t become like mud. She says things like “Choose three colours,” and “Add a fully saturated second colour” which leaves the creative process entirely in your own hands but guided by a master.
Gorgeous book and very useful to anyone who wants to get into ink pouring. Just be aware that for later projects some heavier machinery is required, like a saw, sander and drill.
Oh, my goodness, this book is totally AMAZING!!! It is chock-full of incredible project ideas and I loved how the author incorporates so many colorful mixed media techniques in a thoughtful and cohesive manner. The photography and insightful tips sprinkled throughout are great too. Highly recommend!
The book has twelve projects, with multiple variations/techniques on many of them. Most of the projects use alcohol inks, resin, or both. Projects include paintings and other wall art, coasters, lampshades, mugs, cheeseboards, vases, and paper marbling. Full color photos and detailed instructions, including materials, make the projects more accessible for even a relative beginner. The resource guide at the back of the book lists many manufacturers and their websites for help in locating the items needed. I am excited to try some of the projects in here and see if I can achieve beautiful results like the samples.
I received an ebook ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I was surprised by the variety of techniques taught in this fun book. I was expecting an book on acrylic pouring art, but this book is so much more. It is especially strong in it's coverage of alcohol inks, which I love using because of their vibrant colors and the way they let you play with chemistry and art at the same time..
The Ultimate Fluid Pouring & Painting Project Book
Inspiration and Techniques for using Alcohol Inks, Acrylics, Resin, and more; Create colorful paintings, resin coasters, agate slices, vases, vessels & more
by Jane Monteith
Vibrant, colorful and beautiful this book provides information that will allow artists to play with paint and create a variety of useful objects. With step by step instructions, a list of materials needed and illustrations for each project I found myself itching to try some of the pouring ideas in this book. That said, I have a feeling this is a type of art that might be best tried with a person in the know there to give guidance as there were a number of safety precautions to be taken, materials that are flammable and as I would not want to “waste” materials I would perhaps seek a class first in the basics then use this book to branch out later on.
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I try any of the projects in this book? Perhaps
Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group – Quarry Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.
4-5 Stars
Before I read this book, I knew very little about the many aspects of fluid pouring. I knew about the fantastic canvas art work that could be produced, but this book goes a lot further with the use of resin and pouring onto cups, ceramic tiles and making fabulous cheeseboards. There are some beautiful agate creations that look very real.
This book is a real eye opener to anyone like me a beginner, but some of these techniques would be also explored by more experienced artists as starting points to being creative.
There are lots of detail photo instructions (step by step), and some wonderful project that you would not be ashamed to gift.
Thanks to the publishers for sharing this one. It's a great, straightforward guide to fluid art. I tried a couple of the projects and had a lot of fun. My full review appears on Weekend Notes.
I think this book had a lot of different and interesting projects to try, specially now that Christmass is arround the corner. I'm particularly interested in doing the ocean board and the decorated mugs. The resin vase is something I'd like to try in the future, too. I've already seen Youtube tutorials on marbling paper, because this year I started a book-binding course, but it's nice that the project was included in this book for those who don't know about it.
And as someone who still hasn't worked with resin yet and is hopefull to someday do it, I really liked that the author included that list of common problems that can exist while working with resin, why they happened and how to correct them.
I really enjoyed this book and I'm thankfull for the opportunity to read it.
swirl in the whirl of colors. Time to bring your inner Jackson Pollack out. Vibrant colors.colorful geodes. cheeseboards with unique character. coasters, cups, tiles, anything can be turned into a color lollapalooza.
Step by step pictures setup you with a good way to do the crafts yourself.
Paint pouring is not as mundane and simplistic as it seems at first glance. There are many different techniques that can be used and THE ULTIMATE FLUID POURING & PAINTING PROJECT BOOK shows many of those. Paint pouring is a great activity for those with mobility issues that make "normal" painting a difficult task, because it still allows for artistic expression without limitations of a paint brush and trying to stay within guidelines,
I'm always interested in new ways to craft, so requested this book from Netgalley so I could see what it was all about. I've seen paint with pipettes before, but mostly it's been dripped onto t-shirts, but this is using alcohol inks directly onto paper or whatever material the project recommends and sometimes setting it in resin.
The book comes with twelve projects to follow including making abstract paintings, coaster, lampshade, cheeseboard and more.
It looks fun and quite messy. Many of the project's don't use a paint brush to push the paint around, it might be just dropping the paint on the material, using a coffee lid it spread it around, shaving cream for marbling and more besides. Plenty to keep you going.
I received this book from Netgalley in return for a honest review.
This is an excellent book on fluid pouring and painting. It covers alcohol ink techniques, acrylic paint pouring, mica powder and resin techniques, with lots of pictures and sample projects. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to start making colorful art projects.
The Ultimate Fluid Pouring Project Book is a fun and bright introduction to the world of fluid pouring. And that means Jane Monteith (the author and artist behind this unique book) is determined to inspire a whole new generation of artists.
This book contains everything you need to get started. There are the basics, which seem like an obvious inclusion, but without which this book would be much less approachable. The more noteworthy parts begin after the basics, however.
The Ultimate Fluid Pouring Project Book, is first and foremost, a project book. And that means that there are dozens of unique and new projects to try your hand at. Everything from paint pouring on paper to pouring on to tile is included within these pages. And it’s sure to get your imagination flowing (see what I did there?).
This book explains how to complete a number of abstract art projects using alcohol ink and often resin. There was also one project that demonstrated three acrylic paint pour techniques: swipes, dirty cup pours, and ring pours. She started off by talking about the materials, then she provided the actual step-by-step instructions for the various projects. Her descriptions and the pictures were clear and easy to follow. She included troubleshooting tips. Although there were 12 projects overall, many projects had several ways to complete that project or several ways to achieve different looks for that same project. She had you create things like coasters, flower vases, and resin pieces that looked like geodes or agate slices. These projects look very interesting and doable if you have the needed materials. Overall, I recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about using alcohol ink and resin to make interesting abstract art.
This book really exceeded my expectations. It’s very well organized straight forward and the tutorials are easy to understand. The pictures are amazing and I am so excited that some of the projects are much more interesting and with a wider variety of media then I expected. This has really been eye opening and I have joyfully started several Christmas gifts.
This book is seriously that amazing and I’m so I’m so impressed with how many mixed media techniques are incorporated into this book. I highly recommend this book and it would make an excellent gift. All the projects have a detailed list of supplies and step by step instructions. This book is very informative and and has sections I am impressed with such as a troubleshooter guide, FAQ section and resource links. I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review.
Good book, especially for beginners in fluid art or alcohol ink art. Easy directions and fun projects. Looking forward to doing some of these projects myself!
Thanks for netgalley for a copy of this book for an honest opinion.

Do you want to pour fluid to be creative?
Mixed-media artist Jane Monteith's book "The Ultimate Fluid Pouring & Painting Project Book. Inspiration and Techniques for using Alcohol Inks, Acrylics, Resin, and More: Create colorful paintings, resin coasters, agate slices, vases, vessels & more" was published by Quarto Publishing Group - Quarry. Her goal to the reader with this book is an invitation to create. Monteith presents various approaches of creating art by pouring, dropping and manipulating on a substrate without the use of a paintbrush. The book's introduction treats the topics of "What is fluid Art", Color, and Alcohol Inks and presents twelve projects (some of them using two to three styles or techniques and even variation ideas for the first project). Monteith uses a step-by-step approach for the project so that the readers can reproduce them. It is helpful that she also included a list of materials needed for each project.
The book is presented with great photographs and a great design. Tips and safety information are included in the book as well as a chapter about resin (FAQ and trouble shooting), a resource guide, and an index. These are all very helpful to the artist. The work with resin was new to me but seems to be very interesting. The book would also make a nice present for artists who are interested in Fluid Pouring. Basically I recommend the book but the projects might be challenging for beginners. In the other hand they can be inspirational for the advanced artist. For those who look for new ideas and who have the needed financial means and time I recommend the book.
The complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley free of charge. I was under no obligation to offer a positive review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
