I heard everywhere about Keto and I was curious about it. If you didn't know what is it like ne then you should read this book. At the beginning you can find all the information you need. After this, you can see some recipes with delicious photos.
For me it's too much information, but the recipes sound yummy and I will give a shot.
Thank you NetGalley for the eArc.
Of the Keto books I've reviewed so far, this one is on the top of the list. Beautifully/simply designed with great visuals/diagrams (the breakdown of a nutrition label on keto!) to parse the information, comparison of other diets, great food photos and numbered recipe instructions, I really liked it all as a comprehensive guide. It's still a bit too much information for me to delve into (simple is better for me), but I'm excited to try some newish recipes (I haven't come across keto soups or chicken and waffle keto recipes) that will help me maintain a keto lifestyle (for the time being).
This is the perfect book for learning about the advantages of Keto. You will understand what it is all about and how you can apply in your own life. The format was good but I would have liked more illustrations and definitely more recipes. I would buy this book for the excellent information but would want something additional for recipes.
A full comprehensive guide to keto and female hormones and how to adjust to every possible scenario, including peri-menopause and menopause. Lots of detailed info on straight keto, intermittent keto, etc. Highly recommend this book, especially if you need to understand how hormones affect female's ability to lose weight.
Very interesting and written for women, this book explores the beneficial effects of a ketogenetic diet and all the implications if we do that. There are a lor of scientific explanations and not so many recipes so if you are looking for a cookbook you may be disappointed, but if you are looking for a reason to follow a ketogenetic diet, you may find all the answers here.
THANKS NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW!
I believe this is a revision of this past summer's Keto: A Woman's Guide with the addition of a cookbook and just like the original, it does not disappoint. Scroll for my original review (nothing has changed in that regard). There's a great variety of cuisine immaculately formulated. The calamari udon noodles are absolutely brilliant. What used to be an incredible guidebook just became a comprehensive must-have bible for any woman starting Keto.
Original review:
I'm completely blown away by Metcalf's thoroughly researched novel. Nearly two years Keto myself, I've learned from experience in a very personal, trial-and-error journey how to navigate the lifestyle as a woman. How I wish I could go back in time with this book at my fingertips! It's easily the best resource I've discovered thus far and I won't hesitate to recommend it to any of my female friends interested in Keto (and some of those guys who need a little extra education...). Thank you for writing this, Tasha Metcalf. You have built a strong supporter in this reader.
Finally a keto cookbook I can understand, with an entire chapter on female dieters needs. Looking forward to getting a hard copy in my hands so I can highlight my favorite sections.
Tasha Metcalf shares an interesting exploration of the Keto diet presented in a textbook format. There is a lot of information presented in the text and if you are a woman and considering following a Keto way of eating, this book is a good resource for you. The addition of recipes at the end is a plus. The book explores the benefits of Keto, how to get started, and ideas of what to eat (recipes).
The is a really informative and interesting book. The Keto diet is very well explained. The contents of this book have obviously been well researched. This book seems to be a good reference for someone wanting to try the Keto diet.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.
I was sent an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
This book is an in-depth guide to Keto, what it is, how to achieve a keto diet and is jam packed with information and is a very useful guide to read and follow. This book kind of overloaded me in information but i will be reading through it again and again until the majority of it has sunk it.
This book gives you some fantastic and different keto recipies at the back of the book which are different to the usual kind of recipies i have found in keto cookbooks before.
A must for all keto fans!
Keto: A Woman's Guide and Cookbook is a tutorial aimed especially at women who want to utilize a low/no carbohydrate diet for health and weight loss by Tasha Metcalf. Due out 14th Jan 2020 from Quarto on their Fair Winds Press imprint, it's 272 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats.
This book is certainly very well organized. The first 15% of the page content covers the introduction, definitions and concepts involved in a keto. The author covers macronutrients, different metabolic pathways and some layman accessible biochemistry, along with advantages and disadvantages of various diets. The author discusses some of the side effects of ketosis and benefits of getting through the initial adjustment period.
The second section covers some of the differences of female metabolism and hormonal cycles as they relate to diet and exercise. These chapters (and indeed the whole book) are layman accessible, scientifically accurate, free of outrageous claims, and reasonable. I must admit though, when reading, this book is so theory dense that I often felt overwhelmed. I think that most readers will get probably get more from the book by 'buffet' style reading (finding specific information and taking careful notes) than by 'novel' style reading from cover to cover and trying to compile and assimilate all the information in one read-through.
The last 60% of the content is given over to implementation of a low carb diet, realistic expectations, the phases of ketosis, fat-adaptation, etc along with a bank of well curated recipes which are keto-friendly. The book is very well photographed and the composition is pleasant and easy to read. The recipes themselves are clear and easy to follow. Each recipe has a header with cooking times and a short description of the recipe. The ingredients (given in American and metric measures) are listed in a sidebar, along with yields and serving sizes. Step by step directions are followed by nutrient information. Most of the ingredients will be easy to source at any well stocked grocery, but some of the more specialized 'keto-specific' nut butters and low carb flours, milks, etc might be more difficult to find and necessitate specialty grocers or health food stores. Some, but by no means all, of the recipes are vegan friendly. The photography is exceptional and very nearly every recipe is attractively presented.
This is a comprehensive book, and it's very information dense. Four stars.
This book is a great guide for any woman thinking about doing Keto. While learning why our hormones can hinder our weight loss journey, you'll learn how to calculate your macros (a task that can be daunting for many). It's a very detailed and thorough guide, which includes yummy recipes.

Some delicious, well-balanced recipes. Easy to follow and make.
Many thanks to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
Thanks for the advanced copy NetGalley, and for the reference guide that I will definitely be using in the future! I enjoyed reading this - from the perspective of someone who is interested in Keto but not really sure about how it would work in my life; and someone who enjoys food and cooking! I have read other books on Keto, but none that are aimed purely at women, and understands the way that monthly cycles and hormones can have an effect on our eating habits, emotions and therefore how we nourish our bodies. I would highly recommend this book to any woman who is wanting to learn a bit more about Keto before they embark on a low-carb journey.
This was an interesting and informative take on the keto diet. Most books I've seen/read on the keto diet were geared towards whole families or couples, or men for some reason so it was nice to see a different take that focused on women (who have different needs and reasons for following keto. Lovely pictures throughout as well.
Thanks for a great cookbook. I think the guide is accurate and useful and the recipes interesting and usable.
4.5 stars
An extremely comprehensive primer on ketogenic diets and women. An absolute must for women out there contemplating starting a ketogenic diet. I would even go so far as to recommend this for men as well- they can skip a few chapters ; )
Being in the healthcare industry, I can confirm there really is a bunch of complex factors when discussing different dieting strategies. One of the more complicated is the ketogenic diet wherein you are switching the body's innate sugar (glucose) based system to a fat-burning system (through a process known as gluconeogenesis or GNG) wherein you convert fat into glucose due to a lack free (dietary) glucose. Further, the fact that the female biochemical makeup is different from men. Men have a static hormonal system (after puberty) they just don't change, however, a female body changes the predominating hormones bi-monthly. Some of us are more sensitive to these changes than others. Drastic dietary changes can cause adverse effects to a woman's monthly physiology as well as throw other systems out of whack (technical terms). This book describes not only the who, what, when, where, why, but also how to slowly ease into these dietary changes.
I also really appreciated the fact that the author clearly explains that this dietary switchover not only takes time (6 weeks) but that you can very sporadically dip a toe back out on occasion (Hello, Birthday cupcake!) without blowing the whole diet (once you are fully converted.
I highly recommend this book for any woman thinking about dieting to better understand the complexity of the whole female system (whether you are going Keto or not)!

For someone who doesn't typically like reading diet books, I was impressed with (1) how easy Metcalf explains things, and (2) how she infuses herself into the writing so it's not too bogged down with science. I learned a lot about how our bodies work (women's in particular), which helped put the diet into perspective. Metcalf does an excellent job cutting through stereotypes and misinformation to help you figure out what works for you. No one's body is the same and it was refreshing to have a "diet writer" acknowledge that.
I received a free digital copy of this book from Netgalley for an honest review.
This was a pretty neat and straightforward approach to Keto. There is a lot of information to digest but it's worth it.
Mustard thyme chicken frotters and Chicken piccata with squash noodles are only two of the amazing recipes included.
Very informative Keto cookbook tailored for woman. The recipes re delicious Nd I learned a lot. I try to follow keto the best I can although my family doesn’t wish to follow the diet. With that I have found struggles to balance the dietary needs or desires of the household. This book actually has helped me do that by enlightening me in ways I can work around it. Very good recipes and easy to prepare.
