Description
Life at Grace Field House is good for Emma and her fellow orphans. While the daily studying and exams they have to take are tough, their loving caretaker provides them with delicious food and plenty of playtime. But perhaps not everything is as it seems…
Emma, Norman and Ray are the brightest kids at the Grace Field House orphanage. And under the care of the woman they refer to as “Mom,” all the kids have enjoyed a comfortable life. Good food, clean clothes and the perfect environment to learn—what more could an orphan ask for? One day, though, Emma and Norman uncover the dark truth of the outside world they are forbidden from seeing.

My first reaction to this could be summed up in one word, "wow".
I knew nothing about the premise of Promised Neverland before I started reading this. Kids live in an orphanage and for once they are well cared for, fed, loved, educated. So you know it is a trap.
Even knowing this the twist was like a punch to the gut. I love this book and will definitely be picking up the rest of the series.
I'm not sure how many volumes total there are for The Promised Neverland but the first volume is already quite a setup. for the series. This is The Great Escape for the Captain Underpants demographic, because in spite of the dark themes, the book is still very much kid-friendly. Emma, Norman, and Ray are the leaders of the orphanage kids and their planning puts my own organizational skills to shame. An animated series was produced from this title but only has one season; I'll have to keep reading to get to where the anime ends. The story continues to be absolutely gripping and a little bit heartbreaking. (I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.)
I have repeatedly seen this manga series in my bookshop and always considered picking it up but never have. Due to the name, I imagined the story was a twist on a classic - Peter Pan or Alice in Wonderland perhaps but, never have I been more glad to have never read a blurb.
This book completely blew me away with the twist to the point where I have instantly ordered the rest of the series.
