Description

From My Window I See.. The Seasons will have children accessing their natural ability to wonder and think about the world outside their window. Using lyrical verses and beautiful illustrations, this book encourages the essential developmental growth of better visual and auditory skills that are necessary to building better reading skills, as well as necessary for vocabulary development. By unplugging from technology, kids will be able to celebrate the beauty of their environment and will allow parents and children to expand their practice of mindfulness, increase a child’s sense of well being, and help reduce anxiety.

Since many children must spend their time inside due to stay at home orders and COVID-19, and because parents often have to limit the amount of time children spend outside without careful supervision due to safety risks, the ability to spend time with an adult discussing and naming the elements and seeing the world from their window has become particularly important in today’s more restrictive, modern society.

New author Dr. Barbara Cavanagh is writing a series of books about nature topics you can experience from your home windows. The first one, From My Window I See...The Seasons, is about the changing seasons, perfect for this time of year as winter changes to spring. The book starts with two girls in front of their window, looking out asking questions about why sometimes trees have leaves and other times do not, about why in some seasons there are birds, and sometimes there are not. These questions are not answered in this book, but I don't think they have to be. Kids are curious about the natural world, and they should be asking questions. Will their questions always be answered? No. And that's ok! The important thing is to keep asking questions. From there the girls try to decide which season is their favorite by discussing things they can see from their window during each season. With rhyming text the girls talk about snow in winter, swimming in summer, and seeing the beautiful colors in fall. This book is fun to read aloud as it bounces along. Big Kid enjoyed looking at the illustrations, which perfectly capture what the narrator talks about on each page, and discussing the changing seasons. It fit in perfectly with her teacher's Zoom discussion today about the Earth's rotation, orbit, and how day/night, and the seasons change as the Earth moves. --Kids Lit Life

I received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The illustrations in this book were bright and very nostalgic. The story was simple> it could use a little tweaking but it was enjoyable.
