This book was such a lovely introduction to Corazon Aquino and their incredible work in the Philippines as the first female president. I absolutely adore this series and I love to learn more about these prominent figures.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
Ive never heard from Corazon Aquino before, so I was glad to find this book of the collection I love so much.
I got to learn about her inspirational journey. A brave and resilient Woman.
The illustrations were perfect!
This was a really beautifully illustrated book about an inspiration woman I had never heard about. It was a fascinating story about a woman who grew up in tough times and went on to change the country she was born in after a time in exile! I always thoroughly enjoy these children's book and think they are the perfect gift!
This book is gorgeous! Its the first I have read in the little people big world series, and I had never heard or Corazon Aquino and it has really opened my eyes!
I regularly buy the Little People, Big Dreams books for my children (6 and 4 years old) and we are always excited when new titles are added. I usually buy them about individuals I know about already but I was excited to read about Corazon Aquino as I knew very little about her prior to to reading this book. The cover alone would have attracted my attention as it is a gorgeous vibrant purple and Corazon is dressed in bright yellow - this would definitely appeal to children too. The illustrations throughout are superb - really bright and eye-catching - and are some of my favourite illustrations from this series of books. The story is really interesting. Some of the concepts mentioned e.g. dictatorship and democracy were completely lost on my four year old but led to questions and further discussion with my 6 year old. My only criticism is that the book only explains that Corazon came from a wealthy family in the further detail at the end. I think children need to understand privilege and that not everyone can be sent away to other countries for better education. The story could easily have explained this in the main content with something along the lines of “As Cory was from a wealthy family, they sent her to America to study..” I know the story later explains her selling her heirlooms to support her husband’s political aspirations, but again the concept of heirlooms was lost on my children. Overall, I think this is a good addition to the series but is more suitable for children of 6 and older.
Another great addition to the Little People, BIG DREAMS collection.
This is a concise biography of Corazon Aquino, the first female president of the Philippines.
These biographies are age appropriate; inspiring and interesting, but not overwhelming. They have bright, beautiful illustrations, striking covers, and look great on a shelf together.
This book also recommends two further titles about Corazon Aquino at the end if your interest has been piqued.
Thank you to the publisher and #NetGalley for an advanced copy.
At school I am aiming to get a bit more variety into the book area, including non fiction. So when I saw this on Netgalley I was keen to read it. A great little read with beautiful illustrations. I don't know how I have never heard of this inspirational lady before. Fantastic!
I LOVE the series ‘Little People, Big Dreams’. It covers a wide variety of inspiring individuals in such an appealing and accessible way. As more and more sets are added to it, some of the people featured are less well known to me. Corazon Aquino is one such person.
I loved reading about this amazing woman. Like other books in ‘Little People, Big Dreams’ the narrative is accompanied by gorgeously, colourful illustrations. As events are simplified to accommodate a large range of readers, there are much welcomed facts and photos on a timeline at the back of the book with a brief suggestion of books for further reading.
I’ll definitely be reading more about this determined woman who, along with her husband did so much to free her country of corruption. I’m so glad that this role model has been given the spotlight by the duo of Sanchez Vegara and Hsu and I can’t wait to read more about the complexities of her journey.
I always make sure the school library is stocked with this series and will be purchasing a copy of this to add to my shelves!
DISCLAIMER: Thank you to netgalley and Frances Lincoln supplying me with an ARC in return for an honest review.
