This story was charming, a true story of how optimism is your best tool.

Also, big dreams bring big rewards.
The note we published almost brought me to tears!

I knew of Ernest Shackleton but I had no idea of his difficult trip and how he miraculously brought every single member of his crew back after such hardship! A beautifully illustrated and informative book!

This is a concise biography of Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton. It is bursting with adventure, disaster, despair and jubilation.

These biographies are age appropriate; inspiring and interesting, but not overwhelming. They have bright, beautiful illustrations, striking covers, and look great on a shelf together.

Another gorgeous addition to the Little People, Big Dreams series. My two children are obsessed with the South Pole and couldn’t believe that there was a race to be the first one to reach it and explore it. The story of Ernest Shackleton, and how brave he was (their words), completely mesmerised my 6 year old and four year old. Spending time stuck at home during lockdown truly highlighted and put into perspective how long nine months trapped by ice must have felt to the team of explorers with dwindling supplies and little hope of rescue. As we have come to expect from this series of books, the. Illustrations are beautiful but in this case they also feel perfectly matched to the period in which the story occurs. We all loved this story of adventure, courage, teamwork and dedication.

We are all inspired by tales of great adventure and in this edition of Little People, BIG DREAMS we find out the four qualities of a great explorer, all of which Ernest Shackleton possessed.

With a desire to explore the world from a young age he joined the merchant navy and set sail for Antarctica. His story of optimism and perseverance is told alongside beautiful illustrations making this a very accessible book for children to discover the adventurous life of Shackleton.

As a Bookseller, I know that the Little People, BIG DREAMS series are very popular.
As a parent, I know how useful a resource these books are in helping inspire my own children with their learning.

The latest in the Little People, Big Dreams series, this tells the story of Ernest Shackleton and his attempted voyage to Antarctica. Beautifully illustrated, this would be a great book for any class project on this subject.

I really like the simple way in which this biography is told. The soft illustrations are also really engaging for younger readers, being similar to the style a lot of picture story books are illustrated.

Another carefully crafted and expertly retold addition to this excellent series. And the text gives just the right balance of information for young readers, and a sense of courage and adventure threads through the narrative. The illustrations are beautiful, and cleverly portray the atmosphere and challenge of the hostile environment Shackleton’s men found themselves in. The biographical notes at the back will be valued by young and old readers alike and I really appreciated the inclusion of the photos which help to anchor the story in time. I also liked the addition of recommended texts to help the reader learn more, including William Grill’s excellent ‘Shakleton’s Journey’. For me, the one thing that is missing is a map: although there is a sketch map illustration within the main narrative, I really wanted to see a good map within the biographical section with the journey clearly annotated. That said, it is certainly a lovely book and one that I will definitely be adding to our school library.

I am a big fan of the Little People Big Ideas series and this one makes a great addition. The illustrations are beautiful and the story is simple enough for young children to follow. I hope it inspired children to be adventurous and brave like Shakleton. It is a 5/5 book.

Ernest Shakleton is another fantastic book in the Little People, Big Dreams series from Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. The Little People Big Dreams series is the most beautiful set of non-fiction children’s books I have ever come across. Each gorgeous hard cover book is a child-friendly biography of a significant person from history. There are so many inspirational men and women to choose from.

Each book focuses on one individual from history. Many are quite recent, bringing history from living memory to life for children. The stories are very relatable, starting with when the individual was a child (just like the reader). The development of their passion and dreams for the future are clearly explained in an accessible but detailed manner. There is so much to learn from each biography! The books focus on positive traits, creating wonderful role models. Resilience, hard work, determination, a positive attitude and a sense of what is right play centre stage as children see that anything is possible if you follow your dreams. The wide range of role models allows children to expand their worlds. With such a broad series, there is something to suit every child and every interest.
The books are brightly coloured and so appealing. They have a feeling of quality inside and out. With a manageable amount of text on each page and engaging illustrations, the reader is drawn into the fascinating facts and stories of overcoming obstacles and achieving great things. They can’t help but be inspired!
Ernest Shakleton always dreamed of a life and adventure beyond his family home in Ireland. Optimism, patience, idealism and courage combined to create his ticket to a new life. When he joined the merchant navy, he was given the opportunity to travel to the South Pole and follow in the footsteps of Roald Amundson. When Amundson reached the pole first, Shakleton set himself the goal of travelling across Antarctica sea to sea via the pole. The journey was treacherous and the crew was faced with great adversity. Shalkleton never lost faith that he would bring his crew home again. His inspirational courage and self-sacrifice make him a person to remember.

These fantastic books would be at home in any primary classroom as well as on a bookshelf at home. They deserve to be read over and over again as children get to know the wonderful people within.

This book includes lots of interesting details about Ernest Shackleton’s childhood and also his expeditions, which aren’t always included in texts about him. The story of his life is told in a straight forward way with fantastic illustrations by Olivia Holden. It is a nice touch to include photos at the back with more details about his expeditions. It’s a must have for an explorers topic and a great companion book to ‘Shackleton’s Journey’ by William Grill.
I will be using this book in my Year 6 classroom this year for our topic that covers explorers and the polar regions.

The story of Shackleton is a lovely addition to the collection. The text is concise and understandable for children. Illustrations are excellent. The reservations we have (my son and I) over this book are more because we feel others were very courageous on this expedition and not only Shackleton.

Another beautiful addition to this collections. Some amazing illustrations of the creatures and sights Shackleton came across in his lifetime. This is a wonderful true adventure story for children. Wonderful!

I'm a big fan of the Little People, Big Dreams series and the simple presentation of the stories of different people in history. I was pleased to see the inclusion of Ernest Shackleton in this series.
This book is a really nice introduction to the story of Shackleton and the voyage of the Endurance. It also includes some lovely illustrations to accompany the story.
This is great for younger children of as an introduction to the story to be used with other texts. I really like his these books include photographs and an overview of key facts at the end
A great addition to the series.

I am a huge fan of Shackleton’s Journey by William Grill and so was thrilled to see the incredible story of Ernest Shackleton added to the Little People, Big Dreams series and his story made accessible to younger readers. This is the story of how a young boy turned his dream of visiting far away lands into a reality.

Ernest Shackleton was born and raised on the family farm in Ireland with a dream of travelling to places far away. Starting out like all young explorers, he dug a hole in his garden in the hope he would end up on the other side of the world. Joining the navy was the start of his adventuring and exploring and would take him towards the South Pole. Inspired and challenged by the feat of Roald Admundsen, Shackleton assembled a crew and embarked on a daring journey to cross Antarctica from sea to sea via south pole. The journey would see the crew face dangers and hazards, and as events unfolded it seemed there was little chance that the crew would return safely. What unfolded on the expedition is one of the most incredible stories of survival and is testament to the optimism and courage that embodied Shackleton.

The story of Ernest Shackleton reads like a fabulous fiction adventure and you regularly have to remind yourself that this remarkable and unbelievable journey is in fact truth not fiction. Delightfully illustrated with bright and bold artwork and with a story told in short and simple sentences, this is an inspirational read for any young person with big dreams of exploring and adventuring to far off lands. At the back of the the book there is a short overview of Shackleton’s life which includes key facts and dates and a historical timeline featuring photographs.

This was a book that focused on a famous explorer – Ernest Shackleton and we get to read a little about his early life and adventures in his quest to explore!

Lovely images and another great addition to the series - 4 stars from me for this one

Another addition to the "Little People Big Dreams" series. This one is very well done. I love the stories which are easy to understand for kids, and the illustrations are simply vibrant and so detailed! One of the best books of the series in my opinion.

The Little People, BIG DREAMS series prides itself on providing child-friendly biographies of renowned public figures and celebrities and in this, the forty-fifth instalment, we approach the incredible life of polar explorer Ernest Shackleton. Once again, the author strikes the perfect balance between presenting information children will find interesting but not making it overwhelming or tedious; it’s clear Sánchez Vegara understands the importance of feeding a child’s curiosity in their early years and instilling a passion for books and reading. One thing that never alters depending on wonderful episode of the series you are reading to your little ones is the targeting of imagination and without fail every one of these has culminated in my nieces and nephews asking many, many intelligent questions and as such serves to introduce them to particular famous characters if so desired.

As always, Vegara has done a sterling job of matching tidbits of information about Shackleton with complementary pictures drawn with care and vibrancy by Olivia Holden. From birth to present day, it’s a book that help kids with literacy and fosters a message about the enjoyment of reading. You simply cannot go wrong with this series in general as everything is executed perfectly and tailored beautifully to youngsters. I have purchased rather a few of these for the Little Ones in our family and they never fail to promote an endless fascination. I can not recommend each of these books highly enough and there is more than enough variety in the people they choose to cover to appeal all manner of young ones. Exceptional. We absolutely LOVED this book. We have loved this series, since we first read a book from it, and each new book makes us fall more in love. Ada loves getting to read about the adventures of others and what they have done to help the world. Ernest is a particular favourite as we love the exploration and wilderness adventures ourselves. This is so well written and such a lovely read. The illustrations are beautiful as well.

Ernest Shackleton by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara is another release in the Little People, Big Dreams series, which I have reviewed frequently on here. I just love these little books. They are always packed with facts about the person who they are writing about and full of colourful illustrations throughout. This latest book called Ernest Shackleton by aria Isabel Sanchez Vegara will not disappoint.

Ernest Shackleton was the fearless Antarctic adventurer and when he was very young, "He longed for a life of adventure. After a career in the Merchant Navy, he joined a landmark expedition to try to reach the South Pole for the first time in history. Although he had to go home early, he never gave up. His own expeditions set new records for the closest anyone had ever been to the South Pole, and he is remembered now as a courageous and inspirational leader."

I am so glad these books are being published and I highly recommend all of these books
