World Politics in 100 Words

A great non-fiction book that definately helps expand children's vocab and gives a better understanding of what is happening in the world. It is straight to the point. The font is a nice size and it's easy to comprehend.

An excellent glossary of the essential terminology of politics. It's aimed at 10-14 year olds, but would be very useful for plenty of older teens and adults too.

I'm sure every reader will have their own terms they would like to have seen included, as choosing the list of 100 words much have been difficult. Personally, I would have liked to see accountability, transparency and rule of law included, but I would also find it hard to choose three words to drop.

It is impressive how the book has maintained balance and objectivity in its discussion of highly politicised terms such as capitalism, socialism.

And it is even more impressive that the author has managed to internationalise the text, so that it doesn't refer to specific countries' systems or cultures, except as examples, without making the language so vague and general as to be meaningless. There are a few terms where the definition has evolved differently in different contexts (such as "liberal", which has come to be generally understood in the US as largely synonymous with left-wing, rather than reflecting its origins in "liberty"), but by and large the book avoids such traps.

World politics in 100 words, it doesn’t sound possible. Yet it is achieved superbly in this fun, informative and beautifully presented read which takes readers on an educational journey through political jargon.

Politics is important, whether you have a big interest in it or not, we are all affected by politics. From an early age children experience the forces of politics. At school, they work under the authority of the teacher, the school governing body help run and manage the school and make important decisions, a school council may help make decisions to improve the lives of children at the school, and voting often takes place to elect class representatives, house captains and head boy/girl.

In essence this book is an elaborate dictionary of one hundred words that are linked to politics. It defines, outlines and explains one hundred political concepts and it makes for a really interesting read. From democracy and bureaucracy, treasury and budget, war and treaty, patriotism and racism, this book has got it covered.

Each page is presented with a large illustration and an explanation of the word in exactly one hundred words. Each word is linked to one of five themes: state, citizenship, ideas, economics, media, and these five themes are briefly explained at the beginning. The explanations throughout the book are clear, concise and child friendly. The accompanying illustrations are clever, thought-provoking and beautiful and really capture the political world in a fun and amusing way. Where appropriate, words are paired together over a double page, for example, populism and nationalism, utopia and dystopia, poverty and wealth, capitalism and socialism.

This is a great addition to any home, school or library and it is sure to spark interest, generate valuable discussions and encourage further questioning and lines of enquiry. It might even be the beginning of a journey for a future politician or leader.

I viewed this book via Adobe Digital Editions and not all pages displayed correctly; some were sideways and others were upside down making it a little tricky to read at times!

Politics is the topic every individual has an opinion on maybe he/she knows anything or everything about. And this book is for those who wish to know the terms used in the talks regarding politics or are related to it.

World Politics in 100 Words.
The book is very informative. It has almost all the terms related to politics. All the terms are defined in a very simple way. The language of the book is very simple and lucid. And yes all the terms have beautiful illustrations to explain them.

This book is recommended for teens. And also all those who are not aware of the terms regarding politics.

This collection of !00 word books are just brilliant. This one concentrates on world Politics. Every word you could think of to do with politics is described in detailed words and a colourful picture. Although aimed at teens this would also be a great reference book for adults alike. Well worth a read.
