A simple retelling of a story from the Bible about Ben, whose packed lunch manages to feed thousands of people!
A lovely story , along with pretty illustrations that would appeal to most younger children

I have read a few books in this series and I was really excited to see that there were a couple of new books being released, this being one of them – and I jumped in to read it the day it arrived on my Kindle!

The book has some wonderful illustrations that bring Arthur, and the main story to life. I really enjoyed this book and the retelling of the traditional bible story – in this case it was the story of the feeling of the five thousand and it was really good (and I say that as someone who is not at all religious so it does and can appeal to all)

It is 5 stars from me for this one, well written and I loved the way the biblical story was told – very highly recommended and can’t wait to read more of Albert’s tales!

Albert and the Picnic by Richard Littledale was a charming retelling of the bible story of Jesus' miraculous feeding of the 5,000 from a small amount of food. You are shown this amazing experience through the eyes of a young boy, Ben, and a mouse, Albert. Littledale uses their perspective to bring to life bible stories. Simple sentences and words make this accessible for even the youngest children with shorter attention spans. My almost four year old son was enthralled and enthusiastic about this book. Hidden insects and animals found on the detailed illustrations helped to hold his attention. You could literally feel the sweetness and love of God in the eyes of all shown in this book. Their faces almost glowed with the light of Christ. This book would make a nice addition to a library for a young child learning more about their own faith. The images and inspiration will bless their lives and reminders about how Jesus can and did perform miracles.

I was provided a free advance reader copy in exchange for my honest review from Net Galley. The opinions shared in this review are my own.

Thank you so much to Netgalley and Lion Hudson ltd for the earc to read and review.

I love this book series they are a great way to showcase stories of the bible, in a fun, easy and engaging way.

In this one Albert is on his own reflecting back on a story his ancestors once told him of a time when a young boy Ben was playing freely and saw a crowd gathering around a man sharing great stories and Ben did something wonderful himself.

It was a really sweet story, it taught of kindness, of care for others and selflessness. These books are wonderful for sharing with young children to teach them the stories but in such an easy fun way. I loved the illustrations they are always adorable and spotting the mouse in the pages is always so cute.

Albert and the Picnic is a cute retelling of the Bible Story of The Boy Who Gave His Lunch. The illustrations are lovely. I would recommend this book to be read during a family devotional or a Christian classroom setting. Thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. (This review is also on GoodReads.)

Such a great bible stories for children. Albert the mouse shares stories from his ancestors in biblical times. This one is on the little boy that offered what he had to Jesus to feed the 5000. Kids can relate to these stories in many different ways while learning biblical truths.

A special thank you to Lion Children Books and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

I've read several of the Albert books to my grandson and plan to share this one too. The stories are simple but full of ideas for little ones to enjoy. The attention to detail in the illustrations is excellent as well.

When I read "Albert" I thought it would be the boy in the cover. But no, Albert is a daydreaming mouse! He told the story he heard before, about a boy who went to see his uncle, but found crowd instead. And his lunch of 5 loaves of breads and 2 fish can feed the crowd.

Told easily in a form of an imaginary situation helps kids be in the boy's shoes and see Jesus themselves. This story also reminds me how wonderful Jesus is, He can make miracles happen.

nondenominational Christian, New Testament*****

Albert the mouse falls asleep dreaming about a long ago day when Ben, a local boy, had an interesting afternoon. Ben's mother gave him a lunch and told him that he had the day free. While out he saw a crowd gathered around a man who was telling stories. When the man noted that the crowd might be hungry, Ben offered his lunch. And the rest, as it is said, is history.
The illustrations by Heather Heyworth are bright, fairly simple, and brilliantly done!
A good read for all.
I requested and received a free temporary ebook copy from Lion Hudson Ltd/Lion Children's Books via NetGalley. Thank you!
