Description
Negotiations may be complex; negotiating is not! Creating options and choosing which to pursue (and how to pursue them) is what distinguishes the skilled and effective negotiator from the less successful one. This book provides both the tools and the analytical framework to identify and pursue one’s options, achieve better results, and improve your negotiation skills.
Author Jim Reiman simplifies without being simplistic.
Written by a practitioner for the practitioner, Negotiation Simplified sets out a framework and a thought process that, if followed, will yield better results. He provides short takeaways and tools to examine your own processes. And, because there is no one correct path to a successful negotiating result, Reiman also poses questions to identify options and to learn and critically analyze information so that the best path may be identified and pursued.
Whether deciding who will take out the garbage or overseeing a multibillion-dollar acquisition transaction, everyone negotiates. The stakes may differ, but all negotiations share four foundational elements: goal-setting, preparation, listening, and self-awareness. Negotiation Simplified demonstrates the use of these four skills through real-life negotiation anecdotes authored by eight world-renowned negotiators across many disciplines and industries. They share how their utilization of these skills resulted in better outcomes.

Negotiation is a useful skill in any personal and professional life. This skill needs basics of foundation and then training to master it. This book provides basics of negotiation principles and helps to understand what is the main framework to follow. Additionally you can find stories and examples throughout the book. The final chapter has several interesting examples from interviews with business people. This book will suit young professionals, not experienced negotiators.
There are good points here that you can learn from. The writing style is a little dry and so are the stories. The book could be shortened greatly.
Thank you, Amplify, for the advance reading copy.
I find this book really helpful and it felt like it's giving some straightforward practical simplified tips and tricks to first have our goals defined and what we have to do to proceed with less mistakes.
Seven short chapters which I find quite useful to read and take notes from.
I find the third chapter really good on terms of explanations and practical advice.
I find the sixth chapter really inspirational.
Go for this book. Listen to it. It's better than listen to a good book than just let a day go waste.
A straight forward guide on negotiation, and a useful skill for everyone to learn. I'm going to reread this before I buy my next car. But negotiation is more than just haggling over a big deal. It's about the little things in life too. More couples should read this book, and maybe we'd have less divorces.
