Description
This photographic book of engineering experiments and projects features clear, step-by-step instructions and a fresh, contemporary design, with an emphasis on fun, achievable experiments to give kids hands-on experiences.
The science behind each experiment is explained, giving readers the theory behind the practical activities, and diagrams and photos show these fun and easy to recreate experiments in action!
Experiments are grouped into chapters, including:
- Build it or Break It, which looks at how children can recreate the principles of construction in their own homes,
- Mechanical Marvels, where kids can build their own car, hot-air balloon or submarine out of household objects,
- Testing Tomorrow, in which kids can learn about coding, green energy and electricity,
All experiments are safe and easy for children to carry out, and have clear instructions and advice to help them get bests results and understand the science that underpins the projects.
The STEAM Ahead series shows readers that science isn’t limited to the classroom – it can be found out in the garden, cooked up in the kitchen and brought to life with paper and paints!
Titles in the series include:
STEAM Ahead: Experiment with Kitchen Science
STEAM Ahead: Experiment with Outdoor Science
STEAM Ahead: Experiment with Art

Thank you Netgalley and Quarto Publishing for providing my copy.
Such a treasure book with exciting projects. This book make science experiment kid get from school become extra interesting and appealing.
Points I like the most is easy step by step and materials we can found easily. That's make me believe this books is doable by younger primary school too.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to receive an arc in exchange for my honest review- all thoughts and opinions are my own.
10/10 recommend! This was such a fun put together book, with fun engaging science projects that are easy to be created with everyday household stuff.
Listen, I’m not a crafty person- but I had almost every item needed for the majority of these projects. Like, 18/20 of them.
I’m a homeschool mom to a 2nd and 4th grader, and science isn’t my big forte. This was easy enough for me to feel confident in the science experiments while not feeling burned out- easy enough for both kids to handle the majority, and i even purchased a physical copy so we can continue to do these!
Looks like an interesting compilation of experiments. Hope to actually get to read it at some point. Neither one of my pdf readers recognize this file format. Will have to convert it to a recognizable format. I really, really don't like pdf books. They can be rather difficult to deal with. Wish it was a format recognized by Kindle.
What a great book! Lots of fun experiments for children to do. No specialist equipment so it can be used at home (or the garden for those messier experiments) but it is also something which would make a great teaching resource.
I defy any child not to be engaged and excited by the challenges of this book - a fabulous way to entertain and educate!
The experiments are broken down into small steps which are clearly explained with images to help. Very accessible with simple language. Definitely recommended.
This very interesting book by Nick Arnold is one of two that are being released at the same time about science. This one is about engineering. Like his cooking science book, this one is also very well organized with chapters about different scientific principles based around engineering. There are chapters about building, mechanics, and energy. Each chapter has several different activities that are engaging and fun. Each activity is clearly explained with specific directions and lists of materials. The images will help young scientists follow the directions. I think kids and teachers are going to love this book!
Hands - on science, "Whoo-hoo!" Kids, kids, kids, this is gonna be FUN! Learning experiences await. You will get a feel for how bridges stay up when gravity is desparately trying to pull them down; explore pulley power; rocket launch and even build your own car, among a number of other compelling engineering experiences. The messier the better. There are mini blurbs but not boring ones, to help you understand the science of it all. There are step-by-step instructions with helpful diagrams and pictures to guide you. Experiments can be put together at minimal cost as most materials needed to create with you'll be able to find around your home, perhaps even from recyclable items. Happy Experimenting!

Disclaimer: This is my honest opinion based on the review copy sent by NetGalley and the publisher.
Nice pictures and clear instructions. Good activities for upper elementary students. Supplies for the projects can easily be found around the home.
This book has a variety of STEM building challenges that children can replicate with household and recyclable materials. Along with clear photographs are step by step directions as well as explanations of the scientific ideas behind the experiments and activities. I could definitely see my Grade 3 students interested in this book and excited to create some of the structures they see in the book. I could also see this being used as a resource for teachers or parents wanting to help teach scientific and engineering ideas to young children. I would recommend this book to parents and teachers of children in the 5-11 age range. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book!
