I really enjoy this series!!
In this edition of Little People, BIG dreams we are introduced to Alexander Von Humboldt a western scientist that was known for understanding ecosystems and the connectedness of nature across the world.
He was born in Germany, and after his father died, he was educated privately, studying economics and geology. His love of nature shone through, and this led him to spend five years in central and south America, studying the earth, the ecosystem, animals, plants, stones, rivers, mountains and all of nature.
His research is still used today, and many plants and animals were named after him.

This is a great biographical story about someone I didn't know anything about, so I learnt so much and learnt something new.

Alexander stepped outside of his families' expectations and found adventure. And for those young readers that enjoy science and learning about the environment, this is a great book.

I love the series little people big dreams so much and this one is no different! I loved the whimsical illustrations on this one. While I was somewhat aware of Humboldt since I had seen the animal names before, I didn't know much about his life! Little People, BIG Dreams should be required reading for ALL young readers.

This is a great biographical story about someone who stepped outside of their families' expectations and found adventure and themselves. And for those young readers that enjoy science and learning about the environment, this is a great book.

Alexander von Humboldt was the first western scientist to describe the unity of nature. In this wonderful children's book, we explore his life, and his work, and it is all very interesting indeed. He was born in Germany, and after his father died, he was educated privately, studying economics and geology. His love of nature shone through, and this led him to spend five years in central and south America, studying the earth, the ecosystem, animals, plants, stones, rivers, mountains and all of nature. He recorded all of his findings, and he wrote a lot of books, which help people to this day.

The images in the book are beautiful, and the text is easy to read. Alexander sounds as though he was a wonderful man who brought much knowledge to the world. I highly recommend this book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

While I found a book on this subject recently that I said was for the older kids in the primary school (https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/4488468941) this, as is the case with most of the other six thousand books in this series, is for the younger ones. I can't say I expected Humboldt to turn up here (or indeed to start the other franchise I refer to), for the fact that we never learnt about him when I was a nipper, and that he did so much covering so many disciplines it's slightly awkward to get a handle on the man. Still, the polymath explorer, scientist, nature thinker and so on is lauded here for his early sort of proto-Gaia theories, of the whole ecology being interlinked and dependent on all of its parts. And that's worth celebrating in this volume. The series hasn't exactly been huge on eco-lessons, but this one, well delivered if not quite with the impact some might expect, is certainly welcome.

Admittedly I can't recall ever hearing of Alexander von Humboldt but we enjoyed learning about his life.
Alexander was a fantastic explorer who travelled the world discovering new things and mapping out areas.
My children were fascinated and engaged throughout the story. The colourful drawings (particularly the animals in the rainforest) is a huge highlight.
What a lovely way to learn about a new person and part of history.

What a very interesting book about Alexander von Humboldt, who was a brilliant Western adventurer who documented the ecosystems of South and Central America. I loved the bright illustrations and the various species named after him! This is a great book for any child, whether they are interested in science, nature, or history. A great addition to any classroom. I also appreciated that the book pointed out that indigenous people already had names for various creatures and that Humboldt was just the first from the West to explore.

I had never even heard a whisper about Alexander until getting this book from NetGalley! Who else knew about the fine environmental scientific work done in Central and South America by this man from Berlin in the 18th century?
The illustrations by Sally Agar are simple, colorful, and delightful. Every public and school library needs a copy!

I'm a big fan of the Little People, BIG DREAMS series and this latest book about Alexander von Humboldt is no exception. With beautiful illustrations of wildlife, little readers will be captivated by the adventures of Alexander, an explorer and scientist!

This story would be a great introduction to a living things unit in science for young elementary school students. I also appreciated that Vegara emphasizes the fact that Humboldt's work took him a long time. When he thought it would take two years to put his findings on paper, it actually took 20! What a great lesson on patience and perseverance as well.

Alexander von Humboldt is the newest lead in this latest edition of the Little People, BIG DREAMS series by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. This series is such a delight and the perfect way to educate not just kids but everyone about historic and cultural icons.

Alexander von Humboldt was a German polymath, geographer, naturalist, explorer, and proponent of Romantic philosophy and science. This book follows von Humboldt as he works with Indigenous people to protect the ecosystem to publishing his journey in his book, Kosmos.

Sally Agar illustrates this installment and does a fantastic job. Agar's art style was so captivating and her art definitely further helped tell von Humboldt's story. I love collecting these books and am so thrilled to add this one to the rest of my collection.

One of the things I love about Little People Big Dreams books is that they not only talk about people I have heard of, but people I have never heard of. In this case it is of an very early environmentalist, since he died in 1859. He learned what the indigenous people of South American knew, and tried to pass it on to the Europeans.

Very simple story of his life, because it is a picture book, but it does let you know who he was, and why he was important, and how his love of nature as a child lead him to go on an expedition to the new world, and find all he could about it.

As always, I highly recommend this series of books.

This is a new entry in the popular, long running series of books about well-known folks who, like the book’s intended audience, were once children. This time the story is about Alexander Von Humboldt.

Usually I am familiar with the subjects in this series but I did not know who Von Humboldt was. I am so glad that I do now. He was an early environmentalist and is a person that kids who care about climate will enjoy getting to know. The book notes that it is because of him that we understand so much more about the interconnections of our natural world.

This title has wonderful illustrations. They enhance the text. I especially enjoyed seeing all of the animals that were named for this naturalist.

This series is always a joy to read, it’s a really nice introduction to well known people for little children. Of course the plot is always a little bit fast but that’s to be expected and it’s totally understandable.
This little book here is about Alexander von Humboldt, a naturalist and explorer. His curious mind led him to have numerous adventures and I'm sure it could be very inspiring to read about his story!

Alexander von Humboldt is one of the most famour alumni of my alma mater - so why did I have so much left to learn about him from a children's book? A super children's book, with some of the most colourful, detail-loving illustrations in the entire series. Recommended to all future jungle explorers, big and small, in the world!

The Little People, Big Dreams series is going from strength to strength. The addition of Alexander von Humboldt adds to its catalogue of explorers and adventurers.
Alexander's story is one that children may not know but it's described in such a way that the theme of perseverance and resilience shines through.

Sally Agar's illustrations are a wonderful accompaniment and they really bring Alexander's journeys to life.

This was a fun new addition to the series! My children really enjoyed this one and the plethora of vibrant pictures it contained. We especially loved the pictures depicting the various animals, landmarks, and foliage named after him.

The cover artwork showcases Alexander von Humboldt and a few species he studied throughout his life. It's colorful and draws you into the story.

The illustrations within the pages are right on target to the other Little People, Big Dreams books we've seen previously. I'm happy they stayed with a similar look and feel. It's feels realistic and understandable for kids, but also has an illustrative and kid friendly quality to it.

5 Stars. Would recommend. We enjoyed the story and learning about Alexander, but also enjoyed how there are pages dedicated to animals that he studied. I can see using the book within homeschooling or alongside course curriculum. It's also short enough and entertaining enough to be a nice bedtime read for kids since it's so colorful and engaging.

A deeply insightful book into what is essentially the world's first David Attenborough! I had no idea he had such a huge influence in the naturalist world!

This was my first time reading from the ‘Little People Big Dreams’ series and I’m impressed! They’re so cute! I love the art style and the story itself is both factual and easy to follow along for children to read. I can really see these books being a favourite of a lot of younger children and sparking their interest in science/literature.

I continue to be impressed with Sanchez Vegara's Little People, Big Dreams series. Her research is obvious and she has the gift for taking all of the information and funneling it down to work for elementary level readers. This time, readers meet Alexander von Humboldt and see his interest in the natural world develop from childhood through the remainder of his life. The illustrations offer readers further details to support the text. At the end of the book, a timeline is included that offers more information about von Humboldt.

If you have kids and haven’t heard of the Little People, Big Dreams series I highly recommend it! I don’t have kids and I love these books! A great way to learn about important people in history. The last one I had the opportunity to read was Alexander Von Humboldt. As always gorgeous illustrations and I learned information about him that I never knew!

Beautifully illustrated, this picture book is a love letter to geography, the environment and the ecosystems within it.

These little people big dreams books are fantastic. My seven year old loves them. This one was no different. Very well written and beautifully illustrated, As a grown up I enjoyed reading it as well, as hadn’t heard of this person before. So I also learnt something. Five stars!

It was fun to go on adventures and rides for knowledge with Alexander Von Humboldt. I learned a lot of new things and the pictures were soo cool.

In the Kingdom of Prussia lived a very curious boy. He received the best tutors for his education, but after all his studies, he wanted to explore the world.

In 1799, he arrived in South America where he worked as a scientific explorer, observing indigenous people and noticing what they already knew for a long time that cutting trees wasn’t good as they stored water, protected soil, cooled the air, and were home to many animals.

He explored the rain forest, mountains and volcanoes, making many observations.

When he returned to Europe, he put all his findings on paper, which he thought would take him two years, instead it took him over twenty.

As it is age appropriate, the messages are short, but they carry a good meaning and have a beautiful flow, accompanied by gorgeous pictures. My eight-year-old nephew enjoyed this biography and admired beautiful pictures.

I am a fan of the series Little People, Big Dreams, and in this case, I have learned of an important figure I had not been taught about, so this is just a win-win that I can teach my child and teach myself the curious mind of Alexander von Humboldt. A curious mind that exemplifies the minds of the young children, a great book to then jump into nature and create your own book of wonderful things that surround you. I enjoyed the story, my child enjoyed the story, and you will also, this is great, Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara always gets it right and introduces amazing people in this series.

I love this series of books! They are always beautifully illustrated and this 1 is 1 of my favorites! These are educational for both children and adults and I love the timeline in the back of the book. I'm not ashamed to admit, I didn't know much about Alexander von Humboldt but I sure learned a lot by reading this book!

I had never leanred about Alexander von Humboldt before. The illustrations were engaging. There was excellent information, a time line and more information in the back. I would recommend this to my students so they can learn about someone they might not be familiar with.
