In the first chapter a mother and baby are murdered and a jogging passer by is also killed because he witnessed the murder, so it starts out with action and the tense thriller is a real page turner. I shall not reveal any more of the plot because I would spoil the novel but I recommend the novel strongly to readers who are after a brilliant read. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for giving me a copy of the book.
This had me hooked from the first chapter and I read it in a day. I love this series of books. Patterson is one of my favourite authors and he has a way of reeling you straight in and this was no different.
This was fast paced from the beginning when a mother and baby are killed to the last chapter. Another 5* read from me.
Serial killer behind bars, job done and breath. Except that their appears to be a copy cat and he's taunting sfpd and particularly Lindsay boxer by sending her videos of the murder's. Who and why? Following Cindy on her book tour as she promotes her book about the said serial killer.
The women's murder club at it's finest and nail biting tension.
I absolutely love this series it’s probably my favourite. This book was no exception i would highly recommend the whole series to anyone it never fails.
Lindsay Boxer is back!! The Women's Murder Club are back!! I really enjoy this series, such good characters. Cindy is on a book promotion tour, her book is about Evan Burke a serial killer. When the bodies start piling up... do they have a copy cat on their hands? Only one way to find out......and when Cindy goes missing they have to get to the bottom of it quickly!!! always a rollercoaster read, very entertaining, just what you need to pass a rainy afternoon.
This was my introduction to the series and wow, have I been missing out! It has everything you'd want in a thriller, a clever plot, unique well written characters, twists and turns you don't see coming and the pace is kept up throughout. I always thought it sounded like "murder she wrote" from the name but it's so modern and fresh and the members of the women's murder club are all just so easy to become obsessed with. I can't wait to start the series from book 1!! A must read series
What can I say, James Patterson has done it again! Another book that has been a real page turner. Following the women’s murder mystery club is easily read as an individual book or if like me, a massive follower of the series an absolute fab follow on book. Can not praise this book enough!
Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a James Patterson mega fan girl 😆 I just love his books, with their short and punchy chapters, characters that feel like family now and killers that you can’t wait to get what is coming to them. I am always thrilled to get approved for early copies of his books, so a massive thank you to Random House UK for feeding my addiction.
23rd Midnight is the 23rd book in the Women’s Murder Club series. Lindsay, Cindy, Claire and Yuki are all fantastic characters and I love this group of women. These books can be read as stand alone, and you get a brief summary in each woman at the start of the book. But once you read one you will want to read them all. Our 23rd installment sees Cindy head off on her book tour, her true crime book on Evan Burke has hit the bestsellers listed gained the attention of a copycat killer. Lindsay put Burke away and has to stop the copycat.
As always there are plenty of twists and drama that will have you turning the pages well into the night. These women will do anything for each other, and this case will take everything they have got.
Another easy 5 stars for James Patterson, couldn’t recommend it more. Publishes on March 2nd.
I love the writing partnership of James Patterson and Maxine Paetro, and the Women’s Murder Club has really well rounded characters in the 4 members of that club. I like the support and strength that the women get from each other. The writing style is easy to read, nicely paced and has a really good story. As always, it’s a stand alone read but I’m glad I’ve read the previous books. Highly recommended.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Another great read following the Women’s Murder Club in Detective Lynsey Boxers latest case, putting more than one of them potentially in harms way.
If you’ve not read any in this series of books before, it will not effect your reading of it. Before getting into the story, a brief is given on the ladies and their careers. A definite should read.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read the latest offering from the Women's Murder Club. This outing was very exciting with all the twists and turns that a regular reader has come to expect.
Fast paced ending with a satisfying conclusion.
James Patterson never fails to impress with his writing and story lines. Being one of my favourite authors, I was not disappointed with this newest instalment of the Lindsay boxer books. Thrilling, well written, it kept me captured from the beginning in this new adventure.
Tension Fuelled..
The Women’s Murder Club returns in this twenty third outing as we welcome back Detective Lindsay Boxer. The detective may well have made sure that they locked away serial killer Evan Burke but she now finds herself amidst a horrifying situation. Have they a copycat killer on their hands? It certainly seems to be the case but can someone really be a fan of his and, more worryingly, is Cindy at great risk? As ever, the action never stops in this pacy, edgy and tension fuelled suspense with the usual well crafted cast and smart narrative.
I love the women's murder club books by James Patterson. My go to for a good riveting read. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book.
One of the best storytellers. Love the mix of characters in the Women's Murder Club, the way they support each other is great. The other characters are pretty good too. Oh and it was an exciting, fast paced story too.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone for an advance copy of 23rd Midnight, the twenty-third novel to feature Detective Sergeant Lindsay Boxer of the San Francisco PD and her friends, known collectively as the Women’s Murder Club.
Lindsay put prolific serial killer Evan Burke behind bars and her friend, journalist Cindy Thomas, wrote a bestselling book about his crimes. Now a new killer is walking in Burke’s footsteps and recreating his crimes with Cindy in his crosshairs with Lindsay in hot pursuit.
I thoroughly enjoyed 23rd Midnight, which is another high octane hunt for a serial killer, with the added bonus of interactions between Lindsay and Burke. It is told from Lindsay’s first person point of view and various other characters in the third person. It works well, mixing the personal reactions with a more distant view of events.
The hunt for the killer is interspersed with another Women’s Murder Club member, prosecutor Yuki Castellano, trying a domestic violence case. That is horrible enough, although fascinating in the way events get interpreted and twisted, but pales in comparison to the senseless, nihilistic murders committed by the killer. Practically speaking in terms of the reading experience this translates into non stop action and a plot full of twists and turns. I got really immersed and could feel the tension and frustration of the characters as the murders pile up and Yuki waits for a verdict. This isn’t always a given in the authors’ work as sometimes they substitute action for emotion, but today I felt it and finished the novel in one sitting, desperate for a successful outcome. That means that I adored the final prison scene and my righteous enjoyment of comeuppance.
23rd Midnight is a highly entertaining read that I have no hesitation in recommending.
What a brilliant story teller James Patterson is, I was hooked from page one and couldn’t put the book down. A fast paced story line with great characters and so many twists and turns. I love this series of books and marvel yet again at how easily we are pulled into the plot with so much detail and suspense.
Evan burke is behind bars right? He'll never be free, he can no longer kill... so who is?
A mother and her baby are murdered in broad daylight. A passing jogger who bears witness to the scene is then also killed. All of this is caught on film... by the killer himself! A new serial killer seems to be recreating the most infamous crimes of Evan Burke.
Lindsay Boxer and the Womens Murder Club are back. In this, the 23rd installment the book mainly focuses on Lindsay & Cindy.
Lindsay is tasked, alongside her partner Rich Conklin, in investigating 'copy cat' murders taking place across many jurisdictions, all somehow linked to past murders of Evan Burke. What does he know and will he talk?
Reporter Cindy Thomas is undertaking a book tour on her bestselling book about Evan Burke but after each book signing someone seems to end up dead, is this connected to Cindy?
As expected the chapters are short and punchy, just making you want to read on and on and because they are short you keep promising yourself 'just one more chapter ' which turns into 5, 6, 7....
For the first time I'm not giving 5*. Not because of anything negative but in all honesty it's got to the point where alot of what is happening (bar the actual plot) I've come to sort of predict.
Huge thanks to netgalley and Random House UK Cornerstone for the ARC.
The 23rd novel in the Women's Murder Club series sees a potential copy cat killer on the streets of San Francisco. Fast paced, it is a satisfying read and I always enjoy the supportive, caring dynamic of the four female leads.
Women’s Murder Club #23
Women’s Murder Club Members are:-
1. Detective Lindsay Boxer who put serial killer Evan Burke behind bars and is now searching for a new serial killer known as ‘Blackout’ who is recreating some of Burke’s infamous cases.
2. Journalist Cindy Thomas who Co-authors a best seller with Burke entitled ‘You never knew me’. The process of working with Burke has been a harrowing experience and has left scars. She was a currently on a book tour to promote the book.
3. Yuki Castellano, a Prosecutor, working on an incredibly violent domestic abuse case against Lewis Sullivan.
4. Claire Washburn, San Francisco’s Chief Medical Examiner who is tasked with working on Blackouts latest victims.
This case goes deeper than an obsessed fan of Burke conducting the latest atrocities. Can Lindsay track down the elusive perpetrator? Are Lindsay and Cindy in any danger because of their connection to Burke???
This is a tale of dark obsession which is told in a straightforward, no nonsense fashion at a quick pace which makes for an easy and entertaining read. The mystery deepens, there are plenty of chills and tension both within the courtroom and in the search for Blackout. It’s pretty twisted sister in both scenarios and aspects are horrifying with the addition of threats and taunts amplifying the danger with the plot undergoing good twists and turns. The friendship and camaraderie between the four women and the police team helps to lighten the very dark tone and contrasts well with it.
Overall, this mystery/ thriller keeps you interested and is compelling reading.
With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Random House U.K./Cornerstone for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.
My first book by James Patterson. An excellent fast-paced thriller from the beginning till the end. A real page-turner. This is a very short review because I’m rushing to buy and read other books by this author !!!!
Having read all of the previous 22 books in this series, I was keen to read the latest installment, and it didn't disappoint. Definitely one of the better recent stories for the Women's Murder Club.
Lindsey had tracked down and put away renowned serial killer Evan Burke, and jounalist friend Cindy had been granted exclusive access to him to write a bestselling book. This book follows Cindy on her book tour to promote the work. When a new killer appears on the scene, can Lindsey work out why Cindy seems to be a target and save her friend?
Lots of shocking twists, joining up Yuki's current case with Lindsey's, with easy to read page turning chapters. I always look forward to a Women's Murder Club book, and this one was a good addition to the series.
First of all thank you to the publisher, the author and Netgalley for the privilege of reading this book. I hadn’t read any of the books in this series before but reading this one made me want to become better acquainted with journalist Cindy Thomas, Det. Lindsay Boxer, prosecutor Yuki Castellano and chief medical examiner Claire Washburn.
The book opens with the cold-blooded murder of a mother and a baby, including a passing jogger. As Cindy goes on tour with her true crime bestseller about Evan Burke, she believes the worst of this harrowing experience is now behind her. But when her audience raise so many questions, some about the contents of Burke’s trunk—which documented thirty years of killings, including souvenirs and photos—it brings the hellish experience back. Notwithstanding a heckler in the crowd who accuses Cindy of glorifying Burke’s homicidal career. When Lindsay and Rich are called to a murder investigation in Sausalito, everything begins to fall into horrifying place.
High octane and pacey, I became immersed in every character as they were introduced. All the way through the story, the question persists. Who is Blackout? And why is he recreating Burke’s famous scenes? But more importantly, who will be next? With kill videos on the rise with no-clue clues, time is running out.
It’s well written with Patterson’s signature short chapters, dialogue that sparkles and an easy reading style that had me finishing the book in a matter of hours. Recommended.
As brilliant as I knew and hoped it would be, always a fantastic author. The narrative starts as it means to go on with violent murder after murder, in a matter of fact punchy way which gives great shock appeal and makes you sit up and take notice from the very first paragraph.
The author gives an excellent portrayal of a relentless psychopath who takes ultra violence as day to day occurrence and as easy as my making a mug of coffee, this has great impact and makes it all the more terrifying as does the, seemingly random and innocent nature of the victims. I loved how the plot evolves involving prior serial killer incarcerated in prison and the intertwined domestic abuse storyline which is sensitively handled.
All in all heart stopping, edge of the seat stuff and a satisfying ending. Thank you.
This is my first James Patterson book. It was quite a ride.
It starts off with a triple murder and doesn't let up. Kept me up wanting to
know what happened next.
Reporter Cindy Thomas has put serial killer Even Burke on the best seller list.
Someone is copying his murders and its up to Detective Lindsay Boxer to find him.
Thanks to netgalley and the publishers for the arc of this book
I love James Patterson books and the Women’s murder club ones are usually superb, this one does not disappoint in any way. In fact once I started reading it I couldn’t stop and read it in a day!
It starts with us watching a killer at work through his own glasses he murders a young mother and her baby, he also murders a nosey old neighbour who tries to see what he’s doing.
But these don’t appear first on Blackout murder spree, Cindy is promoting her book that she wrote about Evan Burke the notorious serial killer who Lyndsey captured previously and who was now rotting in San Quentin Prison. After her first book signing a murder happens and a video is sent to Lyndsey from Blackout showing him murder the man, the same happens again and again but also at other times then the bodies of the mother and a child wash up and to Lyndsey it’s a horrible dejavu this is a copycat killing of Evan Burkes murders
They look at the other murders and then Blackout talks to them sayiqng things will escalate if they don’t release Evan Burke!!! Lyndsey qand the other police can’t believe it this maniac wants a mass murderer freed or he will take things to a new level who will he kill next?
He’s done it again! James Patterson never fails to disappoint! Another fast paced thriller from the man with a genius mind.
When Women’s Murder Club reporter Cindy Thomas writes a true crime book with serial killer Evan Burke, it quickly becomes a best seller; but an obsessive fan soon brings fresh horror to the lives of a whole host of new victims.
I was hooked right from the disturbing beginning, all the way to the chilling end.
A truly remarkable read!
I really enjoyed being back in the company of The Women’s Murder Club, I’ve missed a few, my last being the 16th, but it was like catching up with old friends and popping on some much loved comfy slippers.
More daring do in San Francisco, high stakes and a rollercoaster of a ride to the end.
I have not read any books in the Woman's Murder Club series but I still enjoyed this one . Fast paced, great characters, interesting story but quite gruesome with a random mother and baby being murdered and a passing jogger being murdered as well in the first chapter.Heart stopping edge of the seat,a great read .Thank you to NetGalley for my ARC.
The key charcters making up the women's murder club are. Detective Lindsay Boxer , Prosecutor Yuki Castellano, Chief medical examiner Claire Washburn and Journalist Cindy Thomas.
In a previous case case Detective Lindsay Boxer had persued and captured serial killer Evan Burke now serving multiple life sentences. In her next case she is in pursuit of another serial killer known as "Blackout". It is clear that this new serial killer is continuing in the footsteps of his idol and mentor Evan Burke.
Cindy had spent countless harrowing hours with Evan co-authoring his biography and was now on a book promotion tour. Blackout kidnaps Cindy and the race is on to find her and Blackout before she is murdered.
In a separate case Yuki is prosecuting a domestic violence case against Lewis Sullivan for the attempted murder of his wife who is left with horrific injuries.
These are delightful female characters ably supported by an excellent ongoing male supporting cast.
This is a fast paced thriller which draws the reader in and is, in my opinion an unputdownable book.
I love this series of books having read them . This can be read in isolation but I do recommend that the reader reads the other books in the series so that they have a fuller understanding of the relationships between all of the major charcters.
Thanks to Netgalley UK and publishers Random House UK/Cornerstone for an advanced arc copy in exchange for a fair unbiased review.
Let’s be honest, you know exactly what you’re getting when you pick up a Patterson; it’s reliable and trustworthy. This is no exception, fast paced thriller.
Nobody writes page turners like James Patterson! I’ve read every one in the series and this one is as fantastic as all the others.
I always look forward to the next book in this series! And as always it does not disappoint. I was invested from the beginning and flew through the book.
A solid four star read. Great premise. Well written. Good characters. Page turner. Plenty of suspense to keep me guessing Would definitely read the next novel. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.
James Patterson and Maxine Paetro are back to their best with this one.
Fast paced and full of tension and drama. I absolutely flew through this one.
Lindsay Boxer put serial killer Evan Burke behind bars. Cindy Thomas wrote a bestselling book about his heinous crimes.
Now a new killer seems to be hell bent on copying his crimes. And this time it's personal.
I love this series and this one is a cracker.
