This is an engrossing page turner with striking imagery and breakneck twists. The author has a crisp writing style which guides readers through this layered and innovative thriller. It was a treat to read and great to listen to .⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Really enjoyable thriller! We follow Ed , a dad and husband who meets his daughter new Fiancé and get a bad vibe off him. Ed feels that Ryan is ‘off’ and cold behind the eyes and almost drives himself crazy to prove it. This was a fast paced thriller which I read in two days so that must be good!
Gripping thriller, pulled me in right from the first chapter. A protective father is wary of his daughters new boyfriend he seems almost too good to be true. The character are well developed and plot unfolds with some anticipation. Don't want to give too much away, great read and kept me hanging on until the end.
Thank you #NetGalley for the audiobook to review.
Brilliant! The Catch had me hooked from start to finish. Wonderful characters who draw you in, a plot that makes you question everything you think you know, and a killer finish.
The narrator for this audio book is great, really easy to listen to.
A fast paced tale of family, love, betrayal and murder! Highly recommended.
Thank you Bonnier UK Audio, Zaffre and Netgalley for this audio copy. I read this book a few years ago and it was really nice listening to it. I love T.M. Logan's work and this was great also as an audio.
"You can’t see the danger, or smell it, or hear it. But you sense it, as the fine hairs stand up on the back of your neck."
Your daughter is getting married. You are suspicious about the future son-in-low. You are trying all you can. You are becoming obsessed and why... The family drama of burried secrets take you to the edge and put you over.
Ed thinks there is something wrong with his daughter's new boyfriend, but everyone else thinks he's a great catch. Can Ed find out if Ryan has any secrets before it's too late?
I loved this book and also loved the tv show based on it, so was delighted to get an audiobook version. The book is well read in this version. Great story, recommended.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of the book in return for my honest feedback.
I listened to this one obsessively. It was absolutely compelling and kept me guessing all the way through. Suspenseful is an understatement. T.M Logan knows how to grab his readers and not let go until the very end. Abby gets engaged and married very quickly to Ryan, the perfect son-in-law. He’s well-educated, has a great job and is compassionate, kind and well-mannered. Except there’s something about him that Abby’s dad, Ed, distrusts. And Ed is very protective over his only child. Exceedingly well-written and plotted, and brilliantly narrated, this thriller kept me on tenterhooks as I changed my mind time and time again about what was really going on.
What a book! TM Logan is a master storyteller!
In The Catch, he draws you in, makes you comfortable, leads you along a certain path, and then smacks you in the face with a huge reveal. The characters are so real, the plot is completely believable, and there's loads of emotion throughout.
I absolutely loved the Audiobook, and thought the narration was spot on.
Ed is looking forward to meeting his daughters boyfriend, Ryan. But there is something off about Ryan that Ed can’t pinpoint. No one else sees it. He is worried for his daughters safety and doesn’t trust Ryan and the wedding is ever looming. Ed starts investigating Ryan’s past but blows up in his face. Ryan really isn’t “the catch” Abbie thinks he is.
Highly engaging and fast paced. This book will hook (!) you in, keep wanting to read the next chapter. Top marks.
All that Ed has ever wanted for his daughter is for her to be happy. You'd expect him to be delighted when he first meets her daughter's new boyfriend, Ryan, as he's absolutely perfect: good-lucking, polite, self-sufficient and enjoying an impressive career. But far from being the 'catch' that others find him to be, Ed suspects that there is something deeply wrong about this new boyfriend. The only problem, is that nobody else can see it.
Convinced that his daughter is in danger, Ed begins to investigate his past. But as Ed becomes obsessed with discovering the truth, we realise that there may be a very thin line between protection and criminality. Is Ryan really Mr Perfect? Is Ed really the doting father, or merely seeing things that just aren't there?
The characters in this novel are realistic and appealing - all have their flaws, vulnerabilities and likeable points. I found 'The Catch' to have an orginal plot (even in the world of thrillers!) and to be well-paced.
I listened to the audiobook version of the novel and enjoyed the narration, which was expressive and engaging throughout the recording.
This was the first book I've read from T.M. Logan and I've also not seen the TV adaptation, so I was happily surprised with the experience. What a fantastic well written story, with great characters and a gripping plot.
Oh and the narrator, absolutely fantastic! Highly recommend this one
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to listen to this ARC.
Blimey - what a book, what a audio book. I spent a lot of my listening time with a mounting feeling of dread, that may not have been so intense had I been reading rather than listening. I realised that I might have been tempted to skim read some of the more stressful chapters - but there was no escape when listening. I am sure that had there been a heart rate monitor nearby, mine would have been through the roof.
The narration by Philip Stevens is brilliant. He builds the tension and takes you on Ed's journey, whether you want to follow or not. It might take me a bit of time to calm down to be honest..
I definitely recommend this fast paced and exhilarating thriller. But be prepared for a roller coaster ride.
Five stars from me. * * * * *
It's only been recently I have found a love for audio books.
I suffer from chronic pain and chronic fatigue so when I was really bad and couldn't hold a book, or read without any pain I gave audio books a try and now I love them.
It's like being a child again with someone reading you a bedtime story!
I would go to bed early just so I could curl up in bed, snuggled under the duvet and listen to this book.
As with all his books, this one is hard to put down.
I loved the book more the second time around, this time having it read too me as opposed to reading it myself.
A great book and an even better listen!
When Abbie brings home Ryan, who seems to be the perfect boyfriend, her mum is thrilled. Her dad, Ed, isn’t. He senses trouble and goes on a quest to track down if Ryan really is who he says he is, risking his job, his reputation and his marriage. The reader ( or listener in my case) sees him go to further and further manic extremes to ‘protect’ his family.
This was a fast-paced psychological thriller that could have taken many different directions and did not disappoint. The chapters are short and snappy (which helps to keep my attention on an audiobook), and are told from different perspectives as the story progresses.
Thumbs up to the Bill Nighy-esque narration.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.
3.5 stars
I really enjoyed the premise of this story - a father suspicious of his only daughter’s new boyfriend (soon becoming her fiancé), doubts as to who the ‘villain’ of the story is, leaving you uncertain which character to trust. I don’t want to leave any spoilers so I’ll not write too much about the plot!
Well written, the characters were nicely fleshed out - adding in different POVs was a nice touch and helped to round out the narrative a bit more.
The reason I didn’t give this five stars is because I did feel at times some of the plot was a bit obvious; it’s not an original storyline by any means but there were some finer details that were intriguing. I felt that the general plot was fairly similar to other thrillers, but it was very enjoyable nonetheless.
This book is fantastic, one of my favourite thrillers of the year. It had me hooked from start to finish. The twists and turns had you questioning everything you thought you knew, The ending was perfect and I don't think I will forget it for a long time. A fast paced tale of family, love, betrayal and murder.
If you like a dark twisty thriller then this is perfect.
Dear me this book will drive you mad with so many feels!!!
For the life of me I can't understand anyone not supporting a father into checking out on his daughter's new boyfriend who seems to awfully rush into mariage and who gives him the creeps...
For the record, my husband would do this with my daughter, I would totally support him! Claire is a an idiot!
The question is... is Ed (the father) really so far fetched or is he right in his suspicions about his about to be son-in-law.... T. M. Logan will make you doubt yourself so many times during this boo, well done!
The ride is a roller coaster of emotions, frustrations, sadness and many more...
The narration performed by Philip Stevens is sooooo gooood, it adds to the feelings really well.
To the point that I will be looking out for his future work as a narrator, he is that impressive....
Wow this was so tense. One of my favourite TM Logan books for sure. You are constantly guessing and second guessing what you think you know with this one. Very good
Brilliant twisty and compelling thriller with fabulous narration.
Ed has always been very protective of his daughter so his misgivings about her new boyfriend and their rushed marriage seem like more of the same. But is his paranoia getting out of hand, or is Ryan really hiding something.
As Ed risks his job, his family and his life for his hunch, will he finally go too far?
Great author and a fantastic read. Highly recommend.
I'm guilty of having bought this book ages ago and not read it. When I saw the audiobook on #NetGalley I thought it would be fun to listen and readalong at the same time.
This grabbed me from the start. Told from different POV. Ed was convinced the person his daughter was about to marry was 'too good to be true'. But only he could see he wasn't quite the 'catch" he had everyone believe.
You did start to wonder if Ed was an unreliable narrator with his antics. I just loved watching it all play out.
Big shout out to the narrator he really did make the characters come to life. You could almost feel the fear and tension of the various characters. I will be definitely looking out for this narrator.
T.M. Logan always writes characters I love to hate. This audiobook was a good soundtrack to some admin, and I really appreciated the way the author played with the idea of the unreliable narrator in the first section of the novel - right through that section I thought he was going to turn out to be the bad guy. Instead the bad guy was still to come ...
A new boyfriend, a sudden engagement…and now rushing head-long into marriage!? Wait! This is all happening too fast!✋🛑
Abbie has brought her new boyfriend Ryan home to meet her parents. And her dad Ed takes an instant dislike to him. He instinctively feels something is off. He just seems…too perfect. This guys’ track record is spotless. He served in the military, volunteers at a hospice and frequently visits his mother's grave.
Ed is now determined to discover and expose who the real Ryan is. Yes, he may have disliked Abbie’s other boyfriends in the past. I mean, no one is really good enough for Ed’s daughter. But this time it’s different. This time Ed sees true evil behind Ryan’s eyes!
At what lengths will Ed go to prove his theory?
More importantly, was he right? Or did he just completely sabotage his daughter’s future?
One way to find out… that’s right! You’ve got to pick this one up!
I’ve read several books by this author but this was the first time I tried the audio version and the narrator did a fabulous job. Even though I think multiple narrators would have given it a just a bit more flash. But that’s just me!💁🏻♀️
Already looking forward to more books by this talented author!
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for my 🎧
I’m divided by the The catch which as an audiobook was narrated very well by Philip Stevens, it is a slow burner and maybe because of this I found myself constantly irritated by it, Ed has a bad feeling about his daughters new boyfriend Ryan, everyone who meets him seems to love him but Ed is sure he’s hiding something and sets out to prove he’s right.
I liked the last third more than the first part and it was a satisfying ending and is worth reading.
