Ok so I started this book yesterday and could not put it down. I literally was reading it all night! It had a great plot that both young and older readers would enjoy! It has mystery, mystique, adventure., originality. and valuable lessons to be learned, such as don't judge a book by its cover because you never know the value and character that lies within.
The story follows Mara Miller, a spoiled rich brat who collects toys but never plays with them or removes them from their boxes. She wishes to preserve their value and become a famous toy collector. However, everything changes when she goes to a toy auction and gets outbid by a man known as the Gatherer who later invites her to his toy estate. Mara enters his toy estate with her father, and everything soon changes when she meets a tiny toy that screams "Run!" From that moment on the reader is taken on a rollercoaster of thrills and curiosity, that will keep one exploring and guessing throughout the journey. of the book. It is full of great characters that each contribute to the Mara's journey. I loved this book and would definitely recommend it in school libraries!

I would have given it 5 stars, but it failed on a valuable lesson and teachable moment which is the power and honor of your word. Mara makes a deal and gives her word but does not honor this agreement. I think that is a really bad message to teach a child that lies, trickery and deceit will be rewarded over ones' word and agreement. I think this could have been a teachable moment of showing how the character. involved by honoring her agreement and keeping her word despite her feelings for the person she made the deal with.
If the book wasn't well written, I would have given it 3.5 stars, but it is amazingly written! Honestly, I could not put it down. I would definitely read more books by this author and recommend this book!

Boy in a Box is about a spoiled rich girl who collects toys-but doesn't take them out of their box. One day, she visits a mysterious man's huge toy collection, whom she met at an auction. She finds a strange 16-sided-box and when she opens it, a 6-inch boy pops out and screams, "RUN!!!" She then takes the box home and finds out the boy's name is Jack. And the rest....you'll have to read the book to find out yourself! I enjoyed this book, it was very well-written. A cute story that will spark curious minds. The ending is sweet, and I recommend this to middle-grade readers.
