Description

A humorous take on the unicorn trend, Unicorn NOT Wanted is funny picture book starring an uninvited unicorn that hijacks the story.

"There are way too many unicorn stories, so this book will be A UNICORN FREE ZONE!
And it will be set where you definitely won’t find unicorns... THE WILD WEST!

This is an anti-unicorn, unicorn story, which pokes fun at the never-ending stream of unicorn books, but then becomes what it sets out not to be... thanks to a unicorn intruder!

A unicorn arrives in disguise as a horse on the first pages, but when her hat is removed and her horn exposed, chaos ensues...

It's really silly, but has a positive message of not stereotyping people and being yourself.

Review of Unicorn NOT Wanted

Such a funny picture book that DOES NOT include a unicorn and a pug. The story is lovely and entertaining. It follows a conversation between the narrator and two characters: a unicorn and a pug. They are both not allowed in the story! But will they take part in the end? And would we have another unicorn story?
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. The book sends a message about the consequences of one’s action when one offends or is rude to somebody else. I recommend it to all children aged 3+.

Thanks to Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books, Happy Yak and NetGalley for the advanced readers copy.

Unicorn NOT Wanted is such a fun and silly book! The unseen author and the characters in the book argue on page about what the story will be and if unicorn and pig can be in the story. We really enjoyed this one!

Unicorn NOT Wanted was a very fun story, about a unicorn and a pug interrupting the author's intended story. I liked the cartoonish word style, everything felt high energy. Great drawings and use of color.

Who can help picking up a unicorn book? Unicorn NOT Wanted was exactly what I was looking for in a book. Unicorn is amazing, and wants to show how amazing she is by being in the book. The non-unicorn book ended up staring the unicorn and her cute sidekick, the adorable pug!

My 7-year-old has read this with me three times, and she said that it is such a cute and HILARIOUS book. We cannot wait to purchase it when it is published!

This is an absolutely hilarious book about being unique and confident. It has a very positive message. The drawings are colourful and the writing is really funny too.

Would love to use it in my courses one day.

This story is so silly! It's a very meta story about a unicorn who is absolutely insistent on being in the book, despite the author's efforts to tell a story without unicorns. The illustrations are adorable and the book gave me a good laugh.

I read this last night to my 7 year old. She said it was "good" which is praise for a little neurodivergent child like herself.
I thought it was absolutely adorable.
We both loved the illustrations.

Unicorn NOT Wanted is such a fantastic children’s book! My son and I were both laughing at all the antics of the pug and unicorn. They are such a fun pair. The writing is very engaging and the illustrations are bright and fun. This book is a must have for a child’s home library!

Shh…this review will definitely NOT have mentions of any unicorns in it!!

Unicorn NOT Wanted written and illustrated by Fred Blunt is a picture book about (NOT) a unicorn and a pug trying to weave themselves into a story about the Wild Wild West where of course there are no unicorns…right?? Well unfortunately for the narrator, the (NOT) unicorn and pug make it their mission to be accepted into the story by any means/disguises necessary.

I think that this would be a perfect book in preschool and prekindergarten classrooms. Younger students will be drawn in with the colorful illustrations and the comical characters of the story.

Thank you to Fred Blunt, NetGalley, Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books for offering access to this copy in exchange for my honest and voluntary review!

5⭐️

I give even more stars for this book. It was so incredibly fun and humorous. I'm really looking forward to picking this one up for my two young kids.

This story acknowledges that there is an overload of unicorn stories and this one is different it's a cowboy story. But is it really..... a unicorn and pug sneaks them selves in.

I loved the unicorn and pug in this book. They were incredibly cute and so funny in their dialogue/emotions. This is a super clever story that I think kids will fall in love with.

The illustrations are also fantastic. The unicorn is the perfect amount of derpy looking and the facial expressions are super detailed and expressive.

I would recommend this book to any one work kids preschool age and up.

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing for this advanced reader copy. My review is voluntarily my own.

I will be posting my review to my Instagram page the.littlest.bookworm and retail sites close or on publication.

Quick Summary: Ha-ha-hilarious!

My Review: Unicorn NOT Wanted by Fred Blunt was 50% cuteness and 50% comedy magic. From the cover to the content, I was entirely enchanted.

What I Loved:

The illustrations were picture perfect and oh so colorful.

I loved the antics displayed by the unicorn and the pug. They were the perfect duo.

When the playful banter was exchanged between the duo and the narrator, I giggled every time.

The added bonus with this super fun read was...the word play and the use of exclamatory statements! It made the story that much more entertaining.

The underlying message given in this book gets golden hearts and sparkly diamonds from this reader.

My Final Say: Kids will adore this book. Families will have a great time together as they read through this work. Librarians will rush to add this title to their story time hour. Lovers of kid lit will totally appreciate the ADVENTURE, DRAMA, ACTION, and...COWBOYS! (See what I did there? 😁)
