Absolutely amazing book loved every single minute of it :) fantastic story !!!! 10/10...the storyline was just brilliant
I read this book thanks to NetGalley. October 16th 1987 had two things happen. One: many fathers died. Two: many girls were born. Jess, one of the baby girls born, has always “slipped” for ten minutes every night since her birth. Now, approaching her thirtieth birthday, she’s ready for some answers. I found the premise of this book to be so unique and intriguing. We get so many back stories and points of view which I loved. I enjoyed the writing style and felt like the sub plots were interesting and not overwhelming. However, while getting so many backstories added a lot of interesting information it also added a lot of confusion trying to keep everyone straight. Truthfully I felt like I needed a flow chart to graph the families and other connections. My other main issue was the ending. I understand a sequel is planned so I get the set up but I think an event that happens in the finale changed the whole story for the worse and could have been left out while still allowing the sequel set up.
Amazing storyline, multiple character perspectives, and different timelines. I could not put this book down and can't wait for the sequel! Thanks, #netgalley
Great read! Was gripped from the start and kept intrigued throughout. Felt like I really got to know the characters and the story was cleverly entwined between them all. absolutely recommend
Another fabulous novel from the author of The Gift Of Time. The plot is very clever and highly original. I found it fascinating and totally engaging from the very beginning.
The author has that rare skill of being able to create numerous vignettes in the same book, fill them with well drawn characters, and then mould them into an impressive ensemble.
There's plenty of fantasy here but the story is also grounded in the harsh realities of life and death, and all that comes between.
There are many thought-provoking and poignant moments and the ever present risk of disturbing the space-time continuum. I highly recommend this book.
Slipped by Julie Walker follows the story of Jess who finds herself slipping out of this reality and time every full moon at the same time to spend precious stolen moments with her deceased father. It is a story that pulled me in with its premise and kept me invested to see how it all played out.
Why I loved this book
-Strong Premise with a set up I had not encountered before
-Unique Character voices that made it very easy to attach to and follow individual character arcs
-A certain air of mystery as the reader wonders not only what happened on the night Jess and those like her were born but what gives them the ability to slip now.
What didn't work as well for me
-Pacing between individual sections was uneven in some places leaving a bit of disconnection between reading sessions
Who I would recommend this title for
Readers who enjoy speculative fiction with a could mystery at its core will love Slipped.
