Description
"Dad Died, Then Mom" stands as a beacon of hope and an homage to the beauty of life, even as it draws to a close.
It offers not only a deep dive into the emotional whirlpool of caregiving but also brings to the forefront the profound love, unwavering faith, and unexpected joy that come with this sacred duty. Diane Donovan, the Senior Reviewer at Midwest Book Review, regards it as a remarkable contribution to caregiving literature, one that illuminates the path with its heartfelt sincerity.
Malia, joined by her siblings Bill, Marvel, Franchion, and Shonnie, embarked on a journey that every family dreads, yet one that has the potential to become the most profound chapter in their lives. As their parents approached their final days, these brave souls banded together, unified by a single purpose: to give their parents the love and dignity they deserved at the end of their life's journey.
This book is a guide, a companion, and a source of strength for anyone who may be navigating these uncharted waters. It is not written from the perspective of a medical professional, but from a place of shared experience. Malia's voice resonates with the authenticity of someone who has walked the path of a family caregiver, speaking directly to the hearts of those who will, one day, wear the same shoes.
Whether you're currently in the throes of caregiving, anticipating what lies ahead, or you're facing your own sunset years, this narrative offers a powerful reflection on what it means to be alive and to care for those we love in their most vulnerable moments. Through Malia's intimate recounting, readers are invited to not just observe, but to feel and possibly choose to embrace this extraordinary phase of life with their loved ones, to compare their own experiences, or to simply find solace in the shared human condition.
"Dad Died, Then Mom" is more than a book; it's a companion for the heart and soul, preparing and supporting you to find beauty in goodbyes and to honor the full circle of life with grace and gratitude.

GOLD STAR ~THE INTERNATIONAL REVIEW OF BOOKS
Malia Arries has written an honest reflection that could have easily been a runaway sentimental indulgence. It's not. It's factual; it's healing, and she has normalized death. ~Goodreads
In-depth coverage brings not just events but emotions and atmosphere to life, capturing an immediacy that creates a 'you are here' feeling in the reader. The result is a moving memoir. ~D. Donovan, Editor, Donovan's Recommended Reading
A touching and inspiring memoir full of love and compassion. An ode to everyone who are someone's carers, helpers, family, and friends. This book's warmth will give you hope and faith in human capacity for good. And I absolutely loved the pictures! ~BooksGoSocial
There's a lot to learn from the way these siblings cared for their parents. The love between her father and her mother was very much evident. The message of this book needs to be known by a lot of people. ~OnlineBookClub
Malia did the last thing most people would consider doing at the time of her father's passing on; she created a journal with the cooperation of her siblings and recorded the final days of her father and then those of her mother. The unusual supernatural events that she was astute enough to record as they happened are worthy of further investigation. This is one book everyone should read. ~Readers' Favorite

Being a caregiver myself, I
I could easily relate to this family. Fascinating to hear about what it was like for them.
I know it's different for everyone...for myself, I am a caregiver to a disabled husband who was injured in the military. A bit different than being a caregiver to an ailing parent, but I admire those that are able to be in a caregiver role.
Thanks for sharing your story.
Thanks to Netgalley & the Publisher for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
M a l l a r r I es talk about her family. I love how she discussed The death of her parents was really interesting how she embraced it. Where's your dad and how he was really active when he was very healthy at one point and he became sick. But he looked at his LIF. E! It i I As a journey through time. Do you remember this thing when it's a child? When he talks about it with his children and how they seem to take it very well.. I like how he approached his Dea t. H. And how do you get a lot of different things to help me get through it. Your mother got sick as well. And they kind of the same approaches for father. They get a lot of different things, with her. I think this book should be read when people are dying. Because it shows you, it's a journey. It compares you to accept things as they are. I think dying at home is much more better than dying in a hospital. Because you can be around people i You love and all your memories as well.
Thank you NetGalley. This is a non-fiction story. It was written by one of the siblings who took care of their parents through the end of life. They kept a notebook daily and wrote in it as they took care of their Dad and then their Mom. They kept a record of everything and referred to it to write the book. It would be so much help if you are going through this with your Dad and Mom or really any member of your family.
This book really touched a nerve with me as I cared for both my Dad and Mum as they became ill then incapacitated then both died within a short space of time. If you've experienced this or similar or know someone who has then while a difficult read at times it can also be cathartic and should be on the shelf of not just someone who has experienced the same but carers and caring professionals.
