Description
Will the secrets of her past keep her from her new family?
Suffolk, 1924.
After the death of her fiancé in the field hospitals of France, Angel becomes nurse to the MacDonald family in the small village of Uffasham.
Taking residence at the appropriately named Angel Inn, she is met by many new faces - and old ones, too. Edith, a fellow nurse from the war, while taking great interest in Angel's new life, refuses to let her forget her old one.
As Angel grows closer to her employer, Robert, Edith threatens to expose a secret that could ruin everything . . .
Can Angel ever be free to move on with her new life and her new family, or will the secrets of her past finally be revealed?

A beautifully written story. I loved reading about Angel and her life with the MacDonald family in Uffasham. Edith a so called friend held a secret that Angel was worried about it getting out as she fell in love with Robert. I loved how the story unfolded and how slowly the "secret" came to light. Robert was so understanding, quite rightly IMHO, and really took the wind out of Edith's sails. A warm and touching story.
This book is full of strong characters, especially Angelina (Angel) Rossellini who returns from nursing in France during the war to work in a small village as nurse to Alice MacDonald. Angel has secrets she thinks are left behind in France, will they follow her!
I loved that there was always something going on to keep your attention, the strange character names, Bugler, ginger biscuits etc.
My favourite was Aunt Hetty, everyone needs someone like this in their family. I have to say I strongly disliked Edith from the start, what a formidable character. Jess I feel would have helped anyone.
The suspense until the end, and I didn’t see that coming.
Oh I love this authors work, a delightful read from start to finish, set in Suffolk 1924, Angel's story as a nurse living in the Angel Inn, and becomes close to her employee Robert Macdonald, but will the secrets of her past be left there, A outstanding read, full of warmth and heart breaking chapters I loved it.
