Description

Twenty-three-year-old Evie Day never dreamt she’d be back in Woodsville Arkansas, a small town in the middle of nowhere, after having left five years earlier, but the death of her grandfather called for her return. After discovering a photo from 1933 of a mysterious woman standing next to a tiny wooden box, a strange vial of blood wrapped up in a handkerchief in the pocket of her grandfather’s overalls, and a key hidden in his desk drawer that belongs to a secret safety deposit box, Evie is unwittingly thrown into a world of evil where those closest to her are the ones to be the most feared and danger lurks around every corner.

A Note From the Publisher

A.D Vancise is a visual artist but always saw herself as a writer. At a very young age, she imagined writing a book. It was a dream she’d kept hidden from everyone until her beloved brother passed, then her dad, then her mom all in the span of three years. Her first book, Cry of an Osprey, was born out of that grief but her passion lay in mystery and in a photo that haunted her for years and kept that creativity flowing.

She is currently writing the first of four sequels to Hidden in The Shadows and looks forward to spending more time with Evie. She is also working on another novel, Memoirs from a Killer.

I understand the author is primarily a visual artist and this makes absolute sense as her descriptions of often dark scenarios are truly evocative. This is done very cleverly and may be too much for some readers but I think it works well and serves to embed the reader in the context and events of the book,

Well written and so descriptive that I actually felt like I was there with the characters. It took a while to get into, but on the whole I really enjoyed it
