The Ghost of Christmas to Come

This was such a cute short story. I anticipated the storyline based on the title, but characters and the way Conway put everything together was sweet. It was a quick listen, but I'm glad I did. It's well worth it. By far one of my favorite short stories I've read. And my favorite of this Christmas series.

Such a beautiful story! About loss, letting go, fear, and the beauty kindness can bring in someone's life.

mThis was a very quick audiobook about spreading the Christmas spirit. Matty lives alone in a big house on the hill next to the cemetery that holds her entire family, including her husband and children. She struggles each day to get up, even when she is greeted each morning by a man asking if she is ready to go home yet. And each day she has to yell at the children who use her hill for sledding until one day a little girl falls and is hurt. Matty reluctantly takes her into her house and treats her cuts and the next day the little girl returns with her mother and a basket of homemade goodies as a thank you. When they invite her to their Christmas Eve dinner, she agrees and is warmed by their friendliness and generosity. She tells them that each of her children died as infants and she still can't forgive herself for their deaths because she was supposed to protect them. They all agree that there was nothing that she could have done that would have made a difference and they say good night an bring her home. The next morning, Matty tells the man that yes, she is finally ready to go home, and she is taken to her house on the hill, full of her husband and children. When the little girl and her mother go back on Christmas Day to bring Matty a plate of food, they are surprised to learn from a neighbor that Matty died over a decade ago and the house has been empty ever since. They visit the cemetery and see her gravestone with a note telling them that she went home and thanking them for their kindness. A heartwarming story for the holiday season. This was such a good Christmas story. Short and deeply emotional with the loveliest ending. Very touching!

It is a short sweet story. it is a fast read and perfect for a snowy day during the holidays.

This was a pretty Christmas cover. The narration was very good. This one had me in tears though. It was so so good. This one sure got my heart. I just love Matty. I just hurt for her. The Ghost of Christmas to Come is the second book in The Chrismas Collecion by D.P. Conway. THis book is written as a standalone novel and is very easy to read.

This quick Christmas story was fascintating. I loved the characters and watching this story unfold. I found this to be very unique and I didn't want it to end.

The narratioon by Danielle Gensler was wonderful!!!

The Ghost of Christmas to Come by DP Conway was the strangest holiday tale that was poignant and heartbreaking, while being so beautiful all at the same time (see what I mean about “strange”? Haha).

It gave me Halloween vibes, initially, as the seemingly senile protagonist seemed to be guarding a cemetery in her run-down home, clinging to what she could remember, like her name and the names of her kin on the headstones.

After watching a neighbor’s kid take a spill and injure herself out in the wintery weather outside, the protagonist invites the little girl in to bandage her up and make sure that she’s ok. This opened up doors that seemed to have been closed to the elderly protagonist, including an invite to a Christmas party at the little girl’s house.

We learn so much after this that is truly heartbreaking and yet provides so much healing, growth, and room for hope. This was such a lovely tale.

I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the audio version. This is a short story. I think the audio version is an 1.5 so you can listen to very quickly. I really did enjoy this story it was cute and very Christmasy.

Sweet novella. Enjoyed this one most of the 4 I read in the collection. Glad it wasn't heavily Christian like two of the others.

This is a short story/novella about an elderly woman who lives alone. Kids sled on the hill next to her house and she chases them away. One little girl and her family bring Christmas cheer for the woman. Surprise ending. Also worthwhile to read the author's note for insight about the story.
The story is touching and can be read by anyone. It is not a scary ghost story.

I listened to the audio version. It was very well done.

A Twilight Zone-like short story.

The story opens with an elderly woman living by a cemetery who has been alone for years. An incident occurs and she comes face to face with another person. The story evolves from there quickly. The author packed quite a lot in just a few pages.

This is a smart, clean story. I teared up once and had to compose myself. The ending did not disappoint.

Please note, this is a Sci Fi -- Fantasy genre story; I would encourage the author to write more.

The narrator was just okay.

This book had an air of mystery to it. It was a very wholesome short story. I really enjoyed how the author was descriptive about the setting, but the plot was very to the point. It wrapped up so nicely and loved that it was based on a real family.

Such a great story. I was not expecting the outcome. A lesson to learn for sure about how far a little kindness can go to change someone's life.

I really enjoyed Danielle Gensler's narration of this book, very well-done.
I found this novella to pack quite the punch for such a short story. I found the story to be moving and interesting, and quite sweet and magical. Perfect for Christmas!

Maddie lives alone and is visited every morning by a man asking if she is ready to go home. She doesn't like the children sledding close to her house and will yell at them to go away. The children run away as though they are scared of her until one day when a little girl falls. The little girl gets hurt and Maddie reluctantly helps her. The girls family brings Maddie a thanks and invites her to their house for Christmas Eve. While there, Maddie tells them her story.
On Christmas Day, the mother and little girl go to Maddie's house to bring her food and gifts. They are told no one lives there and that the owner passed eleven years ago. The visit leaves Maddie ready to finally go home. The man who visited her every morning was her angel waiting to take Maddie to heaven to be with her husband and kids.

I loved The Ghost of Christmas to Come and had no clue Maddie was dead until the every end. It is every well written. At the end of the audiobook, Conway tells the listener what prompted the writing of The Ghost of Christmas to Come.

It’s a story of redemption and what just a small amount of kindness to do for someone who is lost.

This is the 2nd book in this series that I have listened to and I can’t wait for the next!

This is a quick and entertaining Christmas short story. I especially enjoyed the character of Mattie, who was easy to relate to.

Danielle Gensler did an okay job narrating the audiobook.
