Beautiful book, a fantastic story very well narrated.
I loved the characters and how they evolved throughout the story. The setting also is perfect.
Excellent read!

A wild Halloween adventure. Action-packed. Magic-filled. A fun and fast plot that kept things moving. And this is a book that celebrates the underdog!

I will note that as much as I liked the ideas and premise of the book, the writing could have used a bit more polish. There were a scattering of awkwardly worded sentences and clunky metaphors and similes. Still, the story held my attention and kept me rooting for the main character.

I received this book from NetGalley.
I ultimately enjoyed this book, but I did have a time trying to get into it at first. I like to read books like this between my usual “thrillers” and this was a great filler! There was a lot of twist and turns that I enjoyed! Some scenes I thought were a little too detailed, but as I said, overall I did really enjoy this book and will be waiting for the next one by Fred Gracely!

Overall I really enjoyed this text. I found the main characters to be enjoyable and I enjoyed the system of magic to be very entertaining. As an elementary teacher I would have liked to add this to my classroom library but I was surprised to hear some language in it that would not be appropriate for a classroom. It is not horrible language, however they are words I know many parents would not want their 4th grade students reading. I will continue the series myself but will not be adding it to my class.

Review: I requested this novel as I had nothing else to read and I am glad I did. What I thought would be a mundane slog through YA hormones, angst and saving the world turned out to be all of these things, only the volume was turned down from eleven to four.

This was a good time with some interesting turns in the story line that are rather unexpected. The is palatable in that it is fairly grounded in presentation. The kid gets his ass kicked here and there along with his buddies yet never quits. A good message for those little fukers out there thinking life should hand them everything.

Rating: 4.7/5

Definitely will be saving this book for my grandson to read! It has a riveting story line, awesome characters and flows smoothly. I was caught up in the read so much that I didn't want to put it down! Thanks #Netgalley and #BooksGoSocial for the eARC in exchange for a honest review. All opinions are mine.

This one seemed like a really fun book! I sadly won’t be able to get a chance to finish it in time before the archive date. I’ll definitely be buying my own physical copy to read and review later! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read it for free, I wish I had been able to read it in time. It seems like a really fun book to read!

A magical journey of Goff and his friends racing against time to stop Mathers from performing an evil ancient ritual.

Goff is an instantly lovable character. He’s been through a lot; from a rude foster family to school bullying, Goff continuously shows courage and patience. I felt bad for Goff’s circumstances but there’s a drive within him that kept him going. I was happy that Goff was able to find friends in the end as well as the confidence to believe in himself.

I wasn’t a big fan of the other characters. Their personalities were straight forward and at times extremely blunt. It’s good to be honest and direct but I feel sometimes the words need to be softened depending on the recipient. That said, I would have liked maybe one or two characters with a direct personality instead of five characters. I didn’t really enjoy reading when his friends and closest acquaintances kept saying he was worthless.

The plot is interesting, however the setting needs a little polishing. The plot isn’t unique. There’s a singular villain who is carrying on the family legacy and the underdog hero. It was well executed and Goff’s growth happened gradually and was natural to the story. Goff has a lot of potential when he uses his wits and this was his strength throughout. I was however, at times confused with the setting and the time travel. I felt the setting needed more clarity such as how far was Mathers house or how big their town was.

The writing style took me a while to get used to. I think the bluntness of some characters threw me off but I was curious to know what would happen with Goff so I kept reading. The writing can also be at times disjointed, going from vague to very descriptive between paragraphs breaking the flow of building suspense or action.

Overall, I enjoyed this story. This story ends quite cleanly by wrapping everything up neatly at the end. It’ll be interesting to see how our characters have grown and how they move forward now that they are aware of magic. The last chapter does hint at more adventures to come so I’m looking forward to another adventure!

This is really engaging, complex but in just the right way for middle school readers. I look forward to book number two and hope this author continues to write and gets a good publishing deajl.
