Woot, what a ride! First Lie Wins is not just a rollercoaster of a read, it's a rollercoaster in the dark because you never see the twists coming. Buckle Up for this one.

Really enjoyed this book and happy to recommend. The story shifts between timelines but keeps the same pov and it works exceptionally well. It’s not a constant swap about so you get enough of each timeline to keep you hooked. The lead character Evie is flawed but I still was rooting for her throughout.
Narrator does an excellent job too which can make or break an audio book.

OOOOOOHHHHH SCANDALOOOOUUUSSS!!!

Ok so I have seen this book all over my feed for over a month with nothing but rave reviews! So of course I wanted to get into the action, so when Netgalley approved the audiobook arc. I pressed play so freaking fast!
OH EM GEE! This con artist story had me on a rollercoaster. Everything I suspected was going to happen I was flat out WRONG, and I love that!
I enjoyed the past and present day POV's and that reveal at the end!.... *clutching my invisible pearls* 🤯
When I saw that Reece book club stamp on the book I was a little skeptical, cause girly doesn't always get it right with her recs, but she hit the nail on the head with this book. It was soooo good!
The ending had me cheesing soooo hard! 😁
I really want to say so much more but its hard to without spoiling. So all I want you guys to take away from this review is.... READ THIS BOOK!

P.S. I have new thriller book boyfriend and his name is Devon! 🥰

‘She’s stolen your identity. Now you have to steal it back.’ - cover tag line.

My thanks to Headline Audio for a review copy via NetGalley of the unabridged audiobook edition of ‘First Lie Wins’ by Ashley Elston. The audiobook is narrated by Saskia Maarleveld.

What a debut thriller! I read this novel ‘cold’ and I would suggest that this is the best way to approach it. So just a few details for context.

We are introduced to Evie Porter, who has recently moved in with her boyfriend, Ryan Sumner. His friends are curious about her though she appears to be quite careful about her answers to their many questions. What is she hiding?

When one of Ryan’s friends brings his new girlfriend to their house, her presence clearly rattles Evie, including the fact that they look very similar. Afterwards Evie locks herself in the bathroom, thinking: “This is not good. This is not good. This is not good. She is not from Eden, North Carolina—I am. Her mother didn’t die from breast cancer—Mine did. Her name is not Lucca Marino—Mine is.”

Even with the cover teaser and the hints already provided, this was quite a revelation and they kept on coming throughout this twisty, turvy thriller.

With respect to the audiobook, Saskia Maarleveld has narrated about 400 titles over a wide variety of genres. She is one of my favourite narrators and I always have confidence in her ability to bring the novels she reads and their characters vividly to life.

Overall, I found ‘First Lie Wins’ an engaging thriller that was full of surprises. As a result I look forward to Ashley Elston’s future projects.

This book totally surprised me in a good way. I really didn't expect it to be for me, but the audio following Evie Porter just really drew me in, and I found myself flying through it.
Evie Porter has everything, the only catch: Evie Porter doesn't exist - I mean, what a catch line. It's really hard to describe what this book is about, part thriller / part spy novel, maybe?
Evie was a great character, I loved how the author drip fed details at just the right intervals to keep me hooked, and there were plenty of twists and turns along the way. What a brilliant debut!
