This is a beautiful book that is an absolute treat to explore - I felt like I was on a journey through Mexico, experiencing the very highest echelons of culinary yumminess as I progressed!

The introduction to how and when people in Mexico eat was interesting and enlightening, while the recipes themselves benefited from being photographed to enhance the readers experience. No calorie counts were given - this I found strangely and deliciously liberating!

Measurements were given in both cups and grams, and oz and ml - I find this so helpful and definitely widens the appeal to both sides of the pond.

The book is organised in sections - generally by mealtime, though not exclusively so.

Overall I would absolutely recommend this book - it is pure joy!

My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy.

Mely Marinez creates a very friendly Mexican cookbook with great recipes. This book covers everything you need to make great Mexican dishes from what to keep on hand and the tools needed to cook. I am excited to try several as they look easy to make at home with ingredients I can easily purchase at my local grocery store. A great cookbook for anyone looking into making some great Mexican dishes.

This is my favorite type of cookbook. The rich descriptions of food with historical background combined with the beautiful photos makes for a wonderful read, even while you are not actively cooking. The detailed recipes with fresh ingredients tops it off.

Yum, yum, yum, yum! You guessed it; I am drooling at the luscious photos of Mexican dishes in Mely Martinez’s latest gastronomic cookbook, “Mexico in Your Kitchen—Favorite Mexican Recipes that Celebrate Family, Community, Culture, and Tradition.”

Recipes for breakfast, lunches, dinner, appetizers, soups, desserts, and drinks—from sparkling fruit waters to alcohol-based adult beverages—this is a comprehensive resource choice for everyone who loves Mexican food like me. It's a must-have for all Mexican food lovers who want more authenticity in their home meals than is available from boxed taco kits.

You’ll find beautifully photographed mouth-watering recipes, easily understandable and simple-to-follow instructions, ingredient lists, and some with optional substitutes, as well as snippets of Mexican history and culture related to each recipe.

That's my favorite aspect of this cookbook. It's a total learning experience—the recipes themselves—the foods eaten throughout the country—the peoples and traditions associated with the different recipes.

JoyReaderGirl1 graciously thanks NetGalley, Author Mely Martinez, and Publisher Rock Point, an imprint of The Quarto Publishing Group USA, Inc., for this advanced reader's copy (ARC) for review.

A lovely compilation of delicious Mexican favorites! I lived in Mexico about 10 years ago, and I've never been able to recreate some of the amazing foods I ate while there. Just looking at all the professional pictures and the beautiful presentation on each page made me long for each and every meal I saw. I will 100% be buying this cookbook (and also the author's previous one). The recipes are naturally authentic and true to Mexican cooking. Everything about this is stunning, from the colors, the images, and the recipes. I cannot wait to test some of these out.

Thank you NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for giving me the opportunity to review this book.

My whole family loves Mexican food, so when I want to bring the family together that’s my go to. This book (with some colourful pictures) has brought new ideas to my cooking. I’m vegetarian but sadly there aren’t really a lot of vegetarian main meal options in this book - luckily I’m a dab hand with using vegetarian replacements, the only downside was that some of these recipes weren’t adaptable. It still gave me inspiration and I will definitely be trying more than a few of these ideas. Some of the breakfasts are on my list of things to try, along with the deserts that look truly delectable, along with a couple of refreshing and unusual drink ideas. I love it. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest review.

This book stirred up on all the emotions in me, in the best way :) It reminded me the importance of passing on family recipes. I’m grateful to have family members that I can still ask, but if I didn’t, this book is the foundation of Mexican cooking.

Growing up, I missed the opportunity to ask my grandma how she made her Wedding Cookies because they were different from the version my non-Mexican pals made them. Seeing this recipe has me excited to bake them this weekend!

All of the chorizo based recipes are described the way I’ve always tried to explain to my friends but could never put to words. it’s no surprise that these recipes are truly authentic. Mely Martinez has been bringing recipes to her community for some time now! I love that there’s no recipe too simple for this book. Many recipe book writers might think to skip out on recipes like Chorizo and Eggs because its “easy”, but so many people don’t know it exists.

This cookbook is a piece of home that I can take with me when in 300 miles away from my family. The dessert section is so nostalgic for me because it reminds me of holidays with my family.

If you grew up with authentic Mexican cooking in your life, this book is for you. If you didn’t but you want to start, THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU. Tomorrow I’m making the Orange Atole because I’ve never heard of that and I’m eager to try!

Thank you NetGalley for this advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review.

This cookbook is beautiful. I really loved the section on the Mexican Pantry that detailed all the items you may need to complete the recipes within along with a detailed description on those items in the event you're not familiar. I always find this helpful when I'm wanting to cook an ethnic dish.

The recipes themselves are organized by meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner, etc) and the overall layout of the recipes makes them very easy to follow with the steps numbered. Another great feature is the picture that goes along with each dish so you can see what you're planning on making. I also loved the little blurb about each dish below the recipe name.

The notes (or Notas) are amazingly helpful. They either give helpful tips or substitutions in case an ingredient cannot be found which saves on possibly passing up on a dish simply due to lack of ingredients.

Having frequented Mexico over the years, this cookbook really brought me back and allowed me to feel like I was back there and not buried in snow and cold!

What a beautiful book! Just looking at the beautiful photos and reading it makes you feel the smell, the tase, the savory yumminess of it all!
Also, a bonus – most of the recipes look like they can easily be modified and adapted to be gluten-free!

Growing up in the Central Valley and living on the Central Coast of California I am very particular about Mexican food. This cookbook reminds me of recipes that I grew up with and love. I love that the recipes remind me of comforting meals and learning to cook with my friend’s moms, many of which came from Mexico to live in the US. Overall I highly recommend this cookbook if you want real, authentic Mexican recipes that aren’t complicated or overly fussy.

All the recipes are easy to follow and the variety of them is perfect that anyone can find something to love. I love that the name of the recipe has the Spanish version and the translation underneath the Spanish one. Also, there is a small description of the recipe which is perfect because I feel like I can understand it better. Definitely, Mexico in Your Kitchen is a book to have on the shelf.

I love Mexican food and this book had everything you could need to really get down in the kitchen. From tools to pantry staples to the actual recipes everything was just perfect.

Mely Martinez's Mexico In Your Kitchen is divided into 7 different chapters: Breakfasts, Antojitos, Soups, Main Dishes, Sides/Salsas/Peppers, Desserts & Breads, and Drinks.

The recipes look + sound amazing -- from the more well-known tried & true favorites like Huevos Rancheros, Gorditas, Baja-Style Fish Tacos, different types of tamales to Pay de Piña (pineapple pie), Encremedas (cream enchiladas), + Ensalada de Nopales (cactus paddle salad), there's something for everyone in this book!

Each recipe includes a short intro, prep time, cook time, yield/serving size, an ingredient list + instructions, and notes (e.g. what kind of equipment to use, substitutes for different ingredients, where to find certain ingredients, etc.). I can't wait to try out the recipes! :]

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for a review!

I grew up Mexican, so some of the recipes were very familiar to me. Some of these recipes were dishes I have never seen before. I would recommend this cookbook to any Hispanic or someone who just wants to travel the world in their kitchen without having to leave their home. I also like how this cookbook gives an index about key ingredients used for most of these dishes. It’s kind of helpful.

Melt Martinez has created a really colourful and inviting cookery book. It’s more than a recipe book as it gives the background to many Mexican dishes, ingredients and customs. I downloaded on a tablet and it’s very easy to use. There are colour plates for just about every dish with ingredients set out and a simple to follow methodology. There’s a bit of information about the dish and suggestions for replacement ingredients. I’m a UK reader and I haven’t come across any items that would be difficult to source.

The book starts with background information about herbs and spices and commonly used vegetables and fruit. It’s informed and interesting and helpful to get just that right Mexican taste. The recipe sections follow the main Mexican eating patterns starting with breakfast, then brunch etc etc. I found the recipes and presentation really appetising. I love the colour and the additional information and I think this is best as a paper copy to browse at leisure and it’s a good looking volume for the cookery bookshelf. I understand there’s an earlier volume which concentrates again on how Mexicans cook at home and I’m keen to find that as a companion volume. Ideal for any skill level; I’ve been a keen home cook for over 50 years but I’ve found a lot of inspiration within these pages. The electronic version works well with seamless move from page to page or section to section. Very happy to recommend.

I absolutely loved this cookbook. I have her first cookbook on my Amazon wishlist. The vibrant cover is what attracted me to her first cookbook and it's what got my attention with the second one as well.

The table of contents made me very excited especially the al pastor tacos and suadero taco recipes. I'm also excited to try the mole verde recipe.

Let me start off by saying that I was born and raised in a Mexican vegetarian household, but I eventually started to eat meat. I was taught by my mil how to cook lots if not all of the Mexican dishes with meat that I know. So, I definitely know how to cook (I now own my own Mexican restaurant) and am familiar with many of the techniques. With that being said, I enjoy collecting cookbooks and learning new recipes or new ways to make something I already know.

The layout is simple and easy to follow, and so are the recipes.

I made the Al pastor tacos and they were so good! I loved how kitchen/stovetop friendly this recipe was written. Others use the oven or try to make a mini trompo and use the oven, which I think is too much work.
The marinade was easy to make with not too many ingredients and it still was flavorful.

I can't wait to get my hand on this new cookbook (and her first one) and add it to my collection so I can try her other recipes.

Thank you for allowing me to review this book in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed the layout of this cookbook as well as the recipes you don't normally see unless you search them out. All of the recipes I tried came out very well and most ingredients were easy to source which is always a plus.

To start out this cookbook builds on top of the first one, "The Mexican Home Kitchen." The different sections include: Customs, Pantry which tells you the important ingredients for the cuisine, and Tools. The recipes are categorized by the meal and there are "notas" which I love! The recipes are easy to follow and the photos are amazing! Some of the recipes I'm dying to try are the Creamy Chipotle Chicken, Rollo de Fresa, Torrejas, Chilorio, and Birria de Res. Just flipping through this cookbook and viewing the recipes I knew it was an instant buy! I even bought the first cookbook mentioned above! I'm so excited and I can't wait for this one to come out! Can I give it more than 5 stars???

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Rock Point for this ARC! ♥

This is a solid cookbook with easy to follow recipes and great pictures to go along with them. I prefer recipe books that are well-supported with photos, so this is a big plus for me.

In trying out the book, I prepared the following recipes to take to a family event:

- Chilorio (p48)
- Spicy Pork Short Ribs (p118)
- Moros Con Cristianos (p157)
- Gorditas Dulces (202)

Given my remote location and limited access to certain ingredients, some minor substitutions had to be made, but these dishes went down very well. They were straightforward to prepare and disappeared very quickly from the communal table!

I will be returning to this book for a long time to come!
