Love can be an adventure . . .
Anna Moore didn't just wake up one day and decide to go on an adventure, so how in the world did she end up racing against the clock to prove that her dad is innocent of stealing a million-dollar necklace? The answer would be her bossy big sister Wendy: seven months pregnant and on bed rest, but desperate to clear their dad's name.
Joining her on her unexpected quest is the sexy and enigmatic Owen Harris. His goal? To prove that Anna's dad is guilty as hell and return the lost jewellery back to its rightful owner - his elderly great aunt.
Forced to work together despite their mutual animosity, Anna and Owen find themselves on a scavenger hunt for clues to the past (with Wendy remotely along for the ride via an earbud). As they start to piece together what really happened to the necklace, they also start to learn more about themselves . . . and the inexplicable and explosive chemistry between them that they can no longer ignore.

Jill Shalvis once again delivers a tale brimming with heart, mystery, intrigue, and humor. The characters in this book captured my affection with their authenticity. The bond between Anna and Wendy, forged by their shared love and the absence of familial ties, felt remarkably genuine. Wendy's husband provided a compelling contrast to the two women, especially with Wendy's impending pregnancy adding another layer to the dynamic. The discovery of a rare coin among their late father's possessions introduces a tantalizing mystery, accompanied by ensuing questions and accusations.
The seamless flow of the narrative and the undeniable chemistry between Anna and Owen kept me engrossed. Each character possessed layers of complexity, enriching the storytelling experience. I appreciated how the narrative delved into various aspects of life and relationships, including the poignant portrayal of Ruby's struggle with dementia. This aspect resonated deeply, acknowledging the challenges faced by many families navigating similar circumstances without the luxury of constant caregiving. Overall, this is a captivating and poignant tale that resonates long after the final page is turned.
I absolutely love Jill Shalvis and I am so excited for another installment of one of her fun capers this time to help clear her dad's name and find some love around the way! I look forward to sharing so much more on this soon I am recovering from a severe health issue but I just wanted to share my excitement and how honored I am to have a chance to read a great title like this in advance. The perfect summer read!
This was a great read. I loved the characters and story. It was romance with a little mystery and fun sister relationship. The title is a really odd choice and doesn't fit the book at all.
The Summer Escape is signature Jill Shalvis: small-town, adorable siblings relationship with the usual love/exasperation dynamics, main characters who fall hard for each other, and all of it, this time, with a mystery/adventure for them.
I really enjoyed reading this story! I know that a Shalvis story is a guaranteed good time, one of few authors who writes consistently great stories.
