Description

Nothing much happens in the quiet seaside town of Inglemouth. The summer brings day-trippers and coach parties who come and go without any incidents of note. The sun shines, occasionally, the wind blows and the rain pours – but life in this friendly town is about to change...

For some individuals, returning from an eventful coach trip around Europe, the humdrum normality is welcomed but their homecoming is soon dashed by a wave of unexpected criminal activity. A minor theft sparks a puzzling chain of apparently unrelated incidents. When a murder is discovered, events threaten to spiral out of control and Detective Inspector Walsingham has no choice but to cancel his weekend plans to work on the daily developing case.

In a tale that encompasses adultery, drugs, disappearances and murder, the characters of Down on the Coast struggle to come to terms with the state of affairs in a town they no longer recognise. Relationships and friendships come under increasing strain as more suspects emerge and DI Walsingham soon begins to question his own abilities. Will his future as a detective inspector be at risk as he tries to solve the mystery made on the coast..?

Some of the characters featured in In All Directions, published 2011, reappear in Down on the Coast. “Initially I wanted to write a follow-up to In All Directions continuing the stories of the main characters, but as I started to write, it became clear that the characters were becoming part of an ensemble, and, as such, offered the perfect opportunity for a crime or two to occur,” says James Bowring. “I have always been a fan of the ‘whodunnit’ so I thought I would have a go”.

A Note From the Publisher

James Bowring was born in London. Later, armed with an honours degree in history and a passion for books, he moved to the Home Counties where he worked for many years as a local government librarian. He has always enjoyed writing but never really found much opportunity while working. When he retired, he was looking for new hobbies and decided to try writing a novel. James now lives in Dorset with his wife, Polly. When not writing, he makes tea, collects ailments, argues with the cat and battles with bindweed.
