The first southern Democrat to occupy the White House since the Civil War era brought with him to Washington like-minded men who quickly set to work segregating the federal government. Wilson’s own sympathy for Jim Crow and states’ rights animated his years-long hostility to the Susan B. Anthony Amendment, which promised universal suffrage backed by federal enforcement. Women demonstrating for voting rights found themselves demonized in government propaganda, beaten and starved while illegally imprisoned, and even confined to insane asylums.
Following from last year’s wonderful Amazing Octopus, Michael Stavaric has come up with another wonderful book- Amazing Jellyfish
The world of cnidarians ( jellyfish family ) is totally fascinating and once again Michael Stavaric has continued using his unique and entertaining writing to educate and entertain us. The joy is in the direct chatty style he uses as though he’s presenting a lesson or talking directly to the reader.
He also weaves in the wider picture of the damage to the environment and the impact of climate change on this curious marine species .
Mixed with facts, quizzes and and the wonderful illustrations of Michèle Ganser, this is a winner.
As an adult reader, I learned so much and for the young naturalist / marine biologist or just lover of the environment this is a wonderful read..be prepared to enter the world of the Medusae
This book, like the title says, is about jellyfish. I saw that it was marked as middle grade, so I did not think much of it when opening it, but oh was I wrong. This book is stunning. The pictures, the easy to follow way it is written, the information flowing through the pages. I loved it. Perfect read for anybody, really.
Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book.
Stunning black and white artwork, intriguing facts, and games and fun exercises teach middle graders all they'll ever need to know about jellyfish. Adults will love it too.
Absolutely filled to the brim with an array of information, written in an engaging manner for those who love to deep dive (pun intended!) into the life of these amazing creatures.
pdf copy gave a tantilizing glimpse at the stunning artwork from Michèle Ganser, Amazing Octopus was incredible and it would seem this one will be too.
Did you know scientists refer to jellyfish as a Medusa? You do now and you would understand why if you read the book!
Although this book is in the Children's Literature category of this blog, and it's advertised as suitable for age 8+ I would be lying if I didn't mention that this is up there with my favourite books I've read this year. I learnt things (so many things), I was hooked, I enjoyed the interactive elements, it made me think, and it touched my emotions also.
Not only are we taught about the life of various sea creatures, insects, and plants, but also humans' impact on the planet, plus some Greek mythology as a bonus!
The tone is friendly and conversational but endlessly informative. Although the topics are at times complex, the reader is never talked down to but instead explained to. Furthermore, this book can age with the reader, there are sections for younger children as well as more detailed elaborations that can be read again on another read-through.
This book takes readers across the globe, under the sea and even into another language - there was a paragraph in German, not sure why, but luckily I knew enough to understand it! Science, illustrations, and puzzles all in one book - yes please!
Overall I know this book will inspire curiosity and hopefully reduce fear and increase understanding of jellyfish and other crazy sea creatures! My personal favourite? (I know you're wondering) Obviously, the Fried Egg Jellyfish!
Amazing Jellyfish is the next book in the Amazing Ocean series, and it does not disappoint.
Page after page, readers of all ages will learn and be fascinated with amazing facts, accompanied with beautiful illustrations, Amazing Jellyfish is a fun interactive way to learn all about these marine creatures.
