Description
'Original and compelling to the extreme - I raced through it' Debbie Howells
YOU CAN HEAR HIS EVERY THOUGHT... BUT HE CAN HEAR YOURS TOO.
Never again wonder where they are
Never again doubt their feelings for you
Know your partner intimately
OneMind: for the ultimate closeness
When Elijah suggests going to OneMind to celebrate their ten-year anniversary, Anna is dubious about getting the implant that will allow them to hear each other’s thoughts. However, eager to please him, and to make up for the fact she can’t give him what he really wants, she agrees to take this step towards the ultimate intimacy.
And at first things are great. Anna feels closer to her husband, and the novelty of communicating mind to mind is a thrill. But then she develops a strange side effect and begins having dreams that aren’t dreams, but memories. Memories that aren’t hers. And if Anna is now seeing Elijah’s memories, what if he can see hers? Will he discover what she's kept buried in her past?
Desperate to keep the truth from her husband, Anna's mind becomes a prison she can't escape. How long can she keep the traitorous thoughts at bay before she drives herself mad?

Love Carys Green. was very excited to get her new book to review. I loved it. I couldn't put it down. thank you for the opportunity to review
Ever wanted to be inside your partner's head, able to access every waking thought? No, me either! But that's exactly what our protagonist, Anna is gifted by her husband on their 10th Wedding Anniversary.
This book had me on the edge of my seat right to the very end! The book covers some deep topics but these are handled with care and really show the depths of emotion of our protagonist, Anna. Anna is a really likeable character and you can't help but feel for her as the story unfolds. Full of twists and turns, right to the very end. This book has great pacing and a real "just one more chapter" feel to it.
Highly recommend, thank you to NetGalley and Random House UK, for this ARC. Always on My Mind publishing date is 13th February 2025.
Thank you to Netgallery and the publisher for this ARC. The publication date is the 13th Feb 2025. I liked the concept of this book I thought it was mind- blowing and chilling at the same time!
I liked the character of Anna and didn’t like her husband Elijah much at all! A great plot with many twists and twists to keep you engaged!
I’d highly recommend this book it was a great!
An invention called OneMind allows couples to read each other's thoughts. Perhaps it could be fun - imagine attending a boring dinner party and you can trade your honest thoughts about the people at the table without anyone knowing. But really, when you think about it for even a moment, you realise how awful and intrusive this has the potential to be, especially if you're already in a toxic and controlling relationship.
That's the situation Anna finds herself in. She is a full-time artist struggling to make a living, leaving her dependent on her successful husband Eli, a very paranoid man who obsessively tracks her whereabouts on his phone. He is also a massive fan of gadgets, meaning that OneMind combines his two loves - new tech and effectively stalking Anna - so he is naturally keen to have the procedure done. Except, soon after Anna agrees and they both have chips fitted, she is not only hearing his thoughts. She is sharing his memories, and they turn out to be more than sinister...
I was really excited by this concept and I quickly started reading when I was approved for the ARC. I was on the train home in the evening when I started reading. I figured I'd read a few chapters on the journey and then go straight to bed when I got home. Nope! After I got home, I kept reading, utterly spellbound, and finished it by midnight. This book really keeps you guessing with its twists and turns and Anna is a great protagonist - sympathetic, but also flawed. I don't want to give too much away, so I'm going to end the review here, but suffice to say, I highly recommend!
Thank you so much to Netgalley and and Vintage Books for the ARC!
Wow, what a ride.. This was a fantastic thriller with a sci-fi aspect. Set (I’m assuming) in the near future. This book follows a married couple together since Uni. (Married 10 years) who decide, (he decides) to use a program called Unity that connects couples thoughts using a chip implanted behind an ear. As you can imagine, things are not going well, instead of bringing the couple together, it drives them apart. I really enjoyed this book. It was nothing like I’ve read before. I can’t wait to read more by the author.
A great story but such a messed up way of life with Unity. The book was engaging, keeping you well invested into the story and how it was going to play out.
Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read this book in return for an honest review. I absolutely flew through this book and was gripped from start to finish. A highly intriguing yet disturbing story which really makes you think about the future of technology. A gripping edge of your seat thriller that I will definitely recommend. 5 stars
Wow wow wow what a book! Loved the idea of this book and imagining in this day and age how this could come about! I couldn't imagine having a chip in my head where i could hear my partners thoughts, its crazy! I really loved this book, the characters worked so well too!
Would you want your partner to hear your every thought? god no!! It would be incredibly intrusive but in the world of this book, that is exactly what happens.
Anna and Elijah have been married for 19 years and on the outside they look happy and loved up. Elijah is obsessed with new tech and gifts Anna the new chip that is inserted into your body that allows you and your partner to hear each other waking thoughts. Anna is against it but feels she has no other choice, will this bring them closer together or tear them apart?
Now it wouldn’t be a good story if these people didn’t have any deep dark secrets that they were hiding from each other would it! This was a fun, page turner that really made me glad that this is. It a possibility in today’s world. Grab this book and just go with it.
Thanks to Random House UK Vintage on NetGalley for my advanced copy of this book to read. Publishes on February 27th, 2025.
I was drawn to this book, hearing each other’s thoughts….I meant can you imagine! I didn’t know what to expect but it didn’t disappoint, I raced through this as I just needed to know what was going to happen. A great take on a thriller, the controlling aspect to it is terrifying. I don’t want to give anything away but I was pretty satisfied with the ending, you’ll know what I mean when you read it!
I loved this book. I enjoy an Orwellian theme and Onemind was perfect.
Leaving aside that I don’t think many would want to share their thoughts with a spouse in reality, I loved the way this book flowed through all the little things it would make easier or indeed harder.
I didn’t like Elijah much but I really didn’t need to as the plot held me in its grip.
I loved this book, it reminded me of the film what women wants but with a darker twist. Loved the characters and the pacing of the story. Saw what was going t happen but still a great read
I really loved this book, it’s my first time reading a book by this author and it certainly won’t be my last. I was in a book reading slump but I managed to read this book in two days. I’ve never read a book like this and whilst with it being set in the near future it felt far fetched it also wasn’t unbelievable. I did wish for a different ending for Anna but I’m glad that it was unpredictable.
This book had a great plot with intriguing characters. I’ll definitely be looking out for more from this author.
I loved this book! I've read many books by this author, but this one has to be the best one yet. In fact it's one of the best books I've read this year. The story just flowed right from the start. I really liked Anna, I was rooting for her, the nursery rhymes took me back to my childhood, there were many I hadn't heard for ages.
All in all I would recommend you read this book now. 5+ stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wow do you ever wonder what goes on in your partners head, their thoughts etc? After reading this I no longer will be wondering. What a talking point between couples.
Could not put this book down. Implant behind your ear and the same with your partner and you never have a thought all to yourself again. I thought to begin with that it would be novel, but as the story opened up and the horrors started to unfold, all I wanted to do was to get the chip out of Ann's head myself.
Thank you Netgalley for letting me read this excellent book.
4.5 ⭐️
Thank you NetGalley and Random House UK, Vintage for this ARC. The views outlined are my own.
Plot
When Elijah suggests going to OneMind to celebrate their ten-year anniversary, Anna is dubious about getting the implant that enables partners to hear each other’s thoughts. However, she’s eager to please him, and to make up for the fact she can’t give him what he really wants, she agrees to take this step towards the ultimate intimacy.
What starts out great, ends up escalating as Anna tries to keep old thoughts and memories at bay. Anna's mind becomes a prison she can't escape. How long can she keep the traitorous thoughts at bay before she drives herself mad?
Review
I can see from the available reviews that everyone’s perception is vastly different. The unique plot is what struck me to want to read this book, and I felt it didn’t disappoint. My only criticism would have been that I’d liked to have seen a neater ending, but that’s me being quite petty.
I thought the pacing was excellent, the plot was exciting and the characters were intriguing. I’d definitely recommend this story and I’ll be on the lookout for more books by this author.
The ability to read minds is something we all think about and would love, however would we really? If it meant we could hear our partner's every thought and, more importantly, that they can hear ours.
This is what Anna and Elijah sign up for in this twisty thriller. Great concept which is brilliantly explored.
I managed to get an ARC of this, and I'm so glad I did as it sounded amazing.
I wasn't disappointed.
Having read the blurb, my first thought was how bad an idea this kind of technology was. My other half doesn't need to know just how many obscenities I think about him in the average day, and I certainly don't need to know how many he thinks about me! 😂
This is a very well-written thriller with a couple of very decent twists. The characters are well thought out, and the twists I didn't see coming at all.
Elijah is the tech-obsessed doting husband who just wants them to be as close as possible. Anna is the wife, still feeling guilty that she can't give Elijah the one thing he wants more than anything, so she agrees to have the OneMind chip with him.
But is everything quite as it seems?
I loved this so much - one of the most original thrillers I've read in a long time.
I really enjoyed this book. When I saw the blurb, I knew I couldn’t resist. I’ve always wanted to be able to read other peoples minds so the concept really appealed to me. The author didn’t disappoint and I found this a gripping read. It was twisty an turnand I raced through it. I love the speculative angle and found the whole thing fascinating. I would definitely recommend this book. It is pacy with a really good concept.
When I read the premise of this I knew it would be right up my street. Imagine being able to hear your partners every thought, and they yours. Would this bring you closer together? For their anniversary Elijah gifts Anna the unity experience. Each of them will receive a chip implanted behind their ear that allows them to hear each other’s thoughts in an effort to bring them closer together and closer to unity. Anna’s not convinced. Eli’s love of technology means he’s excited, Anna can’t shake her nerves, there are things she need to keep secret. Things that would destroy their marriage… but how can she back out without looking guilty…
I devoured this in pretty much one sitting. I can’t imagine how the idea of this could appeal to anyone and it was great to see the turns that this led to. Thanks to netgalley for the arc. Publishing next year.
Would you want your partner to hear your thoughts? Able to turn in and out whenever they want? And would you want them to hear yours? How about seeing your memories? This is what this book is about, and it really got me conflicted.
What if you hear nice things, or bad things… where do you draw the line?
The concept is really interesting and not something I’ve seen before, but the more I read the book the more I erred on the side of thinking this is a controlling and manipulative situation, and I often found myself feeling uncomfortable when reading.
I really did not like Elijah’s character, and he absolutely infuriated me to the point I could have thrown my kindle across the room. His then character did not associate with his new character and I found him to be quite a troubling soul.
Anna, on the other hand I liked her, and as the story unraveled I actually felt quite sorry for her, and wished she would get the hell out of there. But love is blind so they say.
The flow of the book was really good, and I found myself wanting to keep reading to get to the bottom of the mysteries and surprises. The last 10 chapters of this book had my heart in my mouth, and loved the turn of events! Even much so that the last few chapters took this from a 3 to a 4 star read for me!
One thing I didn’t like with the current draft is the random reviews and information pieces on unity. The reviews need to be in a different font, or state “review” before they are inserted into the main body of the text, as they confused me as I thought it was part of the normal story. Additionally the info pieces add nothing to the story to my opinion and could be removed to shorten the book.
Overall a fun read, and I would recommend if you want your patience tested, heart palpitations and reeling thoughts afterwards.
This book is absolutely wild!
The premise is not only fantastic but also intriguingly complex, weaving together elements of thriller, drama, and a hint of futuristic sci-fi that kept me on the edge of my seat. It's fascinating to think about how such a concept could manifest in reality, and I can almost envision the particular types of individuals who might execute something like this in the real world.
Anna is a perplexing character to me. She harbors a deep, desperate secret that she is hell-bent on keeping. However, as the narrative unfolds, it becomes clear that her controlling husband begins to wear her down. Ultimately, she succumbs to his pressure and allows him unrestricted access to her mind, which is something I truly struggle to comprehend. The psychological dynamics at play are deeply unsettling; her husband presents himself as a loving partner, yet he constantly gaslights her, manipulating her at every turn and dictating her every movement. Given this oppressive situation, it baffles me that she willingly permits him entry into her thoughts even though she detests the extent of his control already on her through tech and apps.
I can’t imagine anyone actually wanting full access to my thoughts—honestly, I often find myself wishing I could escape from my own mind! 🤣 And I certainly wouldn't want to inflict it on my husband!
Throughout the book, certain elements stretch the limits of believability, but despite that, I found it to be a thoroughly captivating read. I was completely engrossed in the storyline, even though both Anna and Eli emerged as unlikable characters. It’s hard to find redeeming qualities in either of them. Furthermore, I didn’t connect with Helen and Gavin either. It seemed that all four of them were entangled in a web of mutual betrayal, and I couldn't fathom why they continued to maintain contact after their university days. The only character I truly resonated with was Mandie. She stood out as a genuine friend, consistently looking out for Anna’s best interests. I genuinely wish Anna had heeded Mandie's advice more often.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the unique premise and compelling storyline. While a few elements tested my suspension of disbelief, I can certainly see how this type of technology could be misused in various ways. I'm eager to explore more works by this author in the future.
I'd like to extend my gratitude to the author, the publishers, and Netgalley for providing the ARC of this book. This review reflects my honest opinion.
Imagine being able to hear everything your partner thinks, and vice versa! That’s the reality for Anna and Elijah after they join OneMind, a groundbreaking company that’s developed a chip implanted behind the ear. This chip allows them to share their innermost thoughts with each other, creating an entirely new level of connection.
At first, the concept seems intriguing, almost thrilling—until the consequences begin to sink in. What if there are things you’d rather keep private?
This book presents a fresh and intriguing concept, packed with twists, secrets, and emotional drama. It’s the kind of story that could easily be adapted into a compelling TV series. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Always on my mind an outstanding futuristic thriller by Carys Green kept me on the edge of my seat.
Would you allow your loved one to hear your every thought in order to achieve the ultimate bonding experience? Elijah surprises Anna for their tenth wedding anniversary to an implant each behind their ears from a futuristic company known as OneMind. Now Elijah will not have to keep wondering where Anna is 24/7 he will have peace of mind but at what cost?
Elijah was born into money so he has everything he ever wants except for a baby but unfortunately Anna keeps on miscarrying so is very compliant to his every wish as she feels guilty in not giving Elijah a baby so goes along with their implant.
Everything runs smoothly until Anna develops side effects when she thinks she is experiencing dreams but instead they are memories which are not her own but Elijah's.
Anna has a string of nursery rhymes which she thinks will help block out her secret memories that she does not want revealing to Elijah.
Elijah is always on her mind 24/7 and there is no mute button on her implant but Elijah has not been totally honest with Anna as his implant has a mute button.
Will these implants make or break their ten year marriage all will be revealed in this roller coaster of excitement and intrigue as their story unfolds
Would you want to hear your partners every thought? Would you agree to having a chip implanted in you for this very reason???
Anna did.
This book is a mindf*ck of a plot involving technology to hear each others thoughts. Anna is so easy to relate to as a character and I loved following her journey.
I could not put this book down! Highly recommend!
Imagine having access to your spouses thoughts and then imagine them having acces to yours!!!!
Anna and Elijah are able to have this 'gift' after signing up with OneMind,The company have invented a chip that is implanted behind your ear and it's this chip that allows them to hear each others thoughts.
At first I thought oh wow... just imagine but then hmmmm I'm not so sure.
This is a unique plot and a good read. I loved it. There are secrets and drama and it's one of those books that would make a good TV show.
I really wasn’t sure about the plot of this book as I’m not usually keen on speculative fiction but after reading a John Marrs recently and loving it I thought I’d give it a go, and I’m so glad I did.
First of all, having experienced loss and failure in a similar way to the main character I felt the author described her feelings and her “guilt” about the situation perfectly, for me I understood her driving emotions and therefore I was invested in the story.
The overall plot unravels at a great pace with lots of twists to keep you engaged as your waiting for the secrets to emerge. I didn’t overthink the future of the technology or look for mistakes in the idea of unity. I just totally enveloped the journey of Anna and Eli.
I really thoroughly enjoyed this book and it kept me reading into the early hours to finish and it was a great ending!
A very well deserved 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and only the third I’ve given on NetGalley a very nice surprise!!
Thank you Cary’s Green
