"Dinner in One Take" is a fantastic cookbook for anyone who craves quick, delicious meals without the fuss. The book is packed with mouthwatering recipes that are perfect for busy mid-week dinners when you're short on time but still want something tasty. The recipes are simple yet creative, making it easy to find inspiration even when you're not in the mood to cook. The layout is clear and user-friendly, with beautiful photos that make you excited to get into the kitchen. It's a must-have for anyone looking to simplify their weeknight cooking.
I love cooking, but sometimes you just want something easy. Easy tends to be less healthy, so I love when a cookbook has healthy ideas for when you just don't have time to cook and meal prep ideas for when you don't feel like cooking a lot.
As advertised, the recipes in this books are designed to be quick and easy without spending a lot of money. And they are.
The author, Bo Corley, was on a weight loss journey and rediscovering his love of cooking when he came up with the idea for this. How can you cook all types of food, but in a healthier way that won't take up too much of your time to do. There are meal prep ideas, tops on what oils you should use and what pans you should use.
The recipes come with step by step instructions with measurements in both metric and Imperial. There are tips provided and most have a full color photo. Nothing seems too difficult. The only issue I had with the book and it's a me issue is that I don't grill and many of the recipes involve grilling. Like I said, it's a me problem. I'm not deducting stars, but if you aren't a grill person, there's still a lot of great recipes and idea you can use.
Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group and NetGalley. I voluntarily read an early copy of this cookbook
4 1/2 stars, rounded to 5
I received an ARC of this cookbook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a fantastic cookbook. The recipes are infused with so much flavor!
This was a great cookbook! I love all of the photos to go along with the recipes. A good balance of classic recipes and new things to try! I like the "cheat codes" that are featured in some of the recipes with tips and shortcuts.
I like this recipe book. I like the introduction about how the book came about and the tips about oil/ garlic etc were helpful. The recipes are beautifully illustrated too. Thank you
'Dinner in One Take' showcases classic cooking methods in an accessible way whilst taking the chef through well-developed explainers that I personally appreciated as someone who likes to ask a lot of questions when learning a new recipe. The pictures are sharp, very well lit and colored, as well as plated. There's recipes for specific types of occasions, but also go-tos that everyone can work into their weekly meal plans, healthy or a bit more on the decadent side. Learning through the lens of Corley's distinctly light-hearted, but informative approach is really lovely and low pressure, while you still feel like you're learning quality recipes. This definitely makes me want to check out anything else Corley writes.
I initially applied for Dinner in One Take because I have a husband and toddler as well as work which means time is of the essence.
The layout of the book was fantastic, and the pictures of the food made me crave them!
I do feel like the book could of benefitted from some healthier recipes but then the book wasn't sold on that reason so this isn't a criticism but more I want to try moreo Bo Corley's cooking with a healthier edge.
This book really looks to increase the readers knowledge and skill level without being overly complex.
I cannot wait to try some of the recipes!
This is a great cookbook with delicious recipes. There is a nice introduction with recipes for kitchen staples. The recipes, themselves, are varied and unique but approachable and not intimidating. The recipes are well-written and there are great photos that are both helpful and appealing. As a breakfast fanatic, I especially liked the breakfast for dinner section. I really liked all the tips and tricks throughout the book. I can definitely see me using this book for a lot of dinners in the future. I would recommend this book to everyone.
I really liked this cookbook, The recipes were easy to follow and not overly complicated. It had pictures of many of the dishes which I always enjoy. Chapter 3 on Healthy-ish Dinners had many dishes that are kid friendly but still on the healthy side. I like how it wasn't just recipes but in many areas there was an education to it to explain why or how you should do something which I always appreciate. Simple and fun, I would gift this for someone beginning to cook.
Dinner in One Take is a great cookbook! I loved all of the beautiful pictures that accompanied each recipe. Some of them certainly seemed a little more complicated than I would expect for simple weeknight meals... but then I like really simple lol.
That being said, there were plenty of simple recipes as well, and the instructions were clear and easy! The pictures were mouthwatering, and I am excited to try some of these. Thanks to NetGalley, Bo Corley, and Quarto Publishing for the chance to read and review. My thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is a beautiful cook book. I love the layout and was able to try some recipes and really enjoyed them.. the design is clean and the pictures are beautiful. I will be picking this up this holiday season for a couple foodies in my life.
This was amazing!
I tried a few different recipes from this over the past week to test them and can totally recommend.
The recipes are very easy to follow and you can find the ingredients needed for the dishes in your house.
For someone who has a million things to do on a daily basis, these were great recipes to try.
I absolutely love cooking. And sometimes I love cooking but not the time spent in the kitchen. But as advertised, this cookbook had quick and easy recipes thar won't break the bank.
Or also had my meat and potatoes husband intrigued, so I call this a win win.
Go grab this one
What a beautifully crafted book. I was very impressed with the layout and the photography. A really nice feeling to this book that makes you want to study it in detail.
There are a lot of very achievable recipes in this book and I actually think that the simpler ones are the best. We can often overcomplicate cooking and this book is a reminder of how to achieve good home cooked meals.
Bo Corley seems like a very passionate and inspired chef and you get a real feel for that passion in the pages of his book. The photography is stunning, I just wish there were images of all the dishes. It always helps to see a completed dish when you've never made it before.
There is a lot of content around kitchen basics and what you need for a sustainable workspace, this is really helpful for any budding chef!
Dinner in One Take is an absolute treasure of a cookbook and journal that would be an excellent addition to anyone's kitchen.
Bo Corley has written a book that's not just recipes- it's his own experiences, traditions, and history with food, all written down with care and so much love. The dedication that has been written into this cookbook feels like a generational gift that has found it's way to me. The book is infused with advice from Corley, including tips and suggestions for using certain recipes under certain conditions, such as last minute guests.
The influence that Texas cooking has had on the book is perfect, and I say this as a native Texan. The recipes feel familiar, yet refreshed. The whole concept of this book is big time recipes with a lot of flavor that are quick to make, and Corley has absolutely pulled this off. There are a few recipes where he suggests to take more time, but if time is not available, those steps could absolutely be shortened.
The recipes in Dinner in One Take are very meat heavy- this would not be for someone who is a vegetarian or not a fan of beef. There are a few recipes that are healthier, but they blend in very well with the entire book.
My favorite section was the breakfast for dinner section. The first recipe we made from Dinner in One Take was the French Toast Breakfast Nachos- phenomenal I've never seen anything like it and it was a giant hit at our house.
This would be perfect for anyone who is wanting to elevate their cooking, especially if they are big fans of BBQ and making recipes from the bottom up.
An overall wonderful beautifully illustrated cookbook. The chef shares with us his journey to getting to this book. The book starts with what he believes should be our kitchen staple items and why they matter. Next up he shares recipes that easy to follow that are delicious and though sophisticated, not too complicated. Elevated versions of many things we know and love. The shallot butter, the seafood grilled cheese, a few of the breakfast for dinner, chicken recipes, the weekend stir fry marinade is amazing and good for more than the stir fry it is listed with and more. Oh and the herb crusted salmon…yum! What I loved was that most were no fuss no muss recipes. I didn’t wind up with a sink filled with pots, pans and plate on top of plate to tend with after a delicious meal. This book is good for all levels of cook.
My husband adored this book, as a fan of the bbq meat he was all over making Dino ribs and smash burgers as well as the quick pickles. I'm definitely a fan of the French toast for lunch section as I could eat breakfast anytime of day. A great bright and bold cook book with delicious looking recipes that create delicious tasting food. We will definitely be adding this book to our cookbook collection
An absolutely delightful recipe book! The photos are not only mouth-watering, but stunning - often to the point where the dishes seem a little intimidating to make. But all of the recipes themselves are wonderfully straightforward and make me feel like I could handle whichever one I picked with little problem (at least as long as I have the necessary ingredients).
Beautiful cookbook! All recipes have photos and are easy to follow! I love that it starts Bo’s preferred tools, seasonings, oils, etc. Thank you Quarto for granting me an ARC!
